I am not shitting you when I say this, but this game -overall- is one of the prettiest games I've ever played. Other games might be prettier on a tech level, but this game takes art and tech and makes them fuck, and the baby is a little cutie patootie. So often I'll catch myself just admiring the world. Screenshots do not do it any sort of justice, and neither do compressed YouTube streams.

Upping the saturation a bit on your TV does help, though.

Probably, but only companies like Rockstar Games have the budget to make a proper open world game in my opinion. It'll be interesting what RDR2 is like. Not gonna play it until they release the PC version but hopefully it's vastly superior to GTA 5 which was boring. People is always wrong when referencing vidya journalism as a valid authority argument to prove a game is good or bad.

Both games having such stellar reviews doesn't necessarily mean both games are equally great or terrible, specially being as different as in this case. I personally think the praise that TLoU got was misfocused on non-vidya stuff, while Zelda's achievements are clearly all things vidya.

I liked TLoU but everything it does great, movies do better. It's not the case with BotW at all.

Games

That's a hyperbole but yes, nintendo franchises are still excellent. They make an effort and change the formula enough with each new major installment so they keep it fresh.

They don't focus so much on writing deep stories or completely changing the settings but they rather think about how they can tweak the gameplay on both big and small scales and layers. Then, if the changes are big enough, settings and stories can change too.

And then yes, there's the new IPs like Splatoon and Arms which are quite different from most stuff you find in vidya nowadays, plus some other less ambitious projects that are either too weird or too much more like the same, depending on what they think sells good.

It's an interesting company.

You don't really climb things properly in this game either, Link is just able to stick to any surface no matter how little it makes sense(Gerudo Town smooth walls).
It'll be interesting to see if other open worlds and future Zelda titles try and tackle climbing in future games, but to be honest, climbing is something I can live with or without in open worlds.
