nah the system from fates was better. The problem with making magic its own triangle is that it was only relevant when you have a magic user attacking another magic user, which rarely happened since magic is much less frequent than physical weapons, and in any case is poor strategizing since magic users tend to have high RES.

Another good thing about Fates weapon triangle is that it scaled with weapon level, so it remained relevant the entire game instead of being completely ignorable past midgame like every other FE.

And Fates' triangle is only relevant when you attack mages with spear users (Who already tend to have high Res) or with axe users (Who already tend to have low Res). It was worthless, so they had to add bows to the triangle and create shurikens to make it do something.
Bows were already unique because they had range. Magic was already unique it had range but would target Res instead of Def. Putting them in the same weapon triangle as everything else was dumb as fuck, especially since you also have magic swords, javelins and throwing axes.

It feels like IS is trying to break away from mechanics that are a series staple for 20+ years such as weapon condition. They are testing the waters to see if they can go out without the weapon triangle now.

I don't see how that's a good thing, it just homogenizes everything. Long-range weapons aren't specials when there are long-range swords, long-range axes and long-range spears. Short-range weapons aren't special when you have short-range bows. Weapons being effective against other weapon types isn't special when every weapon type has special weapons that are strong against the type they're normally weak to.

The weapon triangle itself is good, but adding it in a game without changing the rest of the game is going to fuck up the balance. In games that have it, you're given characters that use the different weapons at different intervals, and the maps and enemy placements are take that into account so that it's strategic.
Like let's say Echoes had a weapon triangle. You don't even have axe users in that game, only the enemies use them, so essentially you're just giving an inherent buff to spear-wielding enemies, as they now perform better against your sword wielders while you can never attack them with their own weaknesses.

Different/reverse weapons made every more relevant. It's the literal opposite of homogenization. Magic swords/lances/axes aren't even remotely close to tomes because very few units were able to use magic weapons, splitting up STR/MAG stats generally makes for a shitty unit.

You're saying "Everything is unique!" like it's bad and somehow homegenizes everything, which couldn't be further from the truth. For example, normally shurikens beat swords, but if you had a Dual Sword (reverses and doubles triangle) then you actually had a huge advantage over ninjas, but then you have to take into account whether you want to leave your guy wielding a Dual weapon on EP, because if an axe enemy attacks you then you're fucked. It's an additional layer of strategy.

The weapons triangle fates can certainly be improved (see my suggestion >>378493658), but it was my favorite iteration of the weapon triangle from FE6 -> Fates.

I don't see it as an additional layer of strategy, I see as being able to bypass the triangle to do whatever the fuck I want. Being able to send a sword user against an army of spear-wielders and be at an advantage isn't brilliant, it's making axes redundant. It's like playing chess with every pieces being Queens.
