the only one who didn't record voicelines for that update is Medic's voice actor, Robin Atkin Downes, and he streamed TF2 on Facebook at the beginning of this year.

I like TF2 better than Overwatch too, but what an asinine observation. The real benefits of TF2 over Overwatch is TF2's focus on being a real shooter with actual guns to switch through, and use in different situations. Not 1 gun per class. There may be only 9 classes, but there's way more nuance in how to use them. Where aim is more important than a skill hotbar you babysit.

The only thing that's overpowered about Soldier is the Reserve Shooter, Escape Plan, and Disciplinary Action. Apart from those things he is a very balanced class.

Scout's mobility is totally free, he has endless double jumps and the fastest base movement speed in TF2. If Soldier wants to compete with that mobility he has to wear Gunboats, and wearing Gunboats makes Soldier lose to Scout in 1v1 fights.

you have to basically check every shutter for sticky traps. what you are basically implying is that you know the demo man was laying down traps prior, likely exploded you when you walked through the first time.

And really think about how horrible that would be to play like that constantly. I can see checking corners and being ready every room, but having to walk in and out every door way is horrible.

Also don't know how many rooms you know of but it's very rare for the demo to have to be forced to stand right in view from the door way, he can usually stand behind the wall.

Shotgun Soldier is an objective downgrade to rockets soldier.

A soldier flying in with Rocket Jumper and Shotgun is going to take 40-60 fall damage. You don't have to do 200 to him.

So why aren't HL and 6s players using this strategy 24/7 then? Rocket Jumper isn't banned, neither is Market Gardener, and they like to win. I'll tell you why: Because it doesn't work.

Horrible. In TF2 I can queue into a full server at 4am in an LAX server (my region) in 30 seconds (like I did several times last night). Honestly glad I came back to TF2.
The gameplay's smoother, more fluid, since it's a 12v12 format, and the characters all have their own strengths and weaknesses, you can solo carry in a pub match, unlike OW where you have to play nice or suffer penalties.

We already have classes that instantly kill medic and sniper. All you have to do is make sure to look up every once in a while, walk a few steps away from the landing zone, and watch him get blown away. Any decent Spy not only instantly kills your medic in the same way, but a shit ton of your other teammates as well given the chance. Sniper fucking does that and doesn't even need to get away. At most, you're gonna have to worry about a tele entrance and Spy already kills that shit better.

There are many things you can do to counter these two, where as not even sentries are fast enough to track sticky jumper demos and you can cover so much ground in a single jump anywhere that isn't a building isn't safe. Having to worry about a demo kamikazing your medic at any second is fucking idiotic and doesn't add anything to the game. It takes no effort whatsoever to do but can completely turn the tide of a game if you manage to pull it off. It's not like sniper who has to push deep into enemy territory to get the sightline he needs to kill the medic and then land a headshot on a target jumping all over the place or spy who has to get behind him without being lit on fire or hit by a stray bullet and then kill him before anyone notices there's a scout who just appeared out of nowhere bee lining for the medic.

Surf away. In either scenario they have to hit me with 2 direct hits to kill me which is extremely difficult to pull off where as caber can 1 shot me with splash damage. Valve never intended any specific classes to be "specialists". EVERY Team Fortress 2 class is a specialist, even Soldier (who specializes in sustained air mobility and on-demand splash with no delay).

Even from that sound bite alone, you can tell Robin Walker is not condoning the "generalist" and "specialist" model the 6v6 community puts forward. He explicitly says it's difficult to balance-- it's a situation they don't want existing where 5/9 classes are rarely used. They want to get rid of that situation.
When Robin Walker says "generalist", he means that the class is useful in a wide variety of situations leading to it becoming overpowered. He's not saying that the class is DESIGNED to always be ran.

Valve doesn't approve of the 6s format. Robin Walker, progenitor of Team Fortress, personally finds it boring. Not that I don't like 6s, but the way it turned out was not Valve's vision.

Because the more players there are, the harder it is to organize a match, and the longer queue times get.
And that becomes doubly more difficult when you have to wait for specific class mains to join.
For example, both 9v9 teams waiting for the last Medic to join who is in their country and at their skill level for the game to begin.

As you can imagine, there are maybe 4 Medic mains of high skill level in Australia at any one time. So that would mean you could only play 2 competitive games at a time.

That's why instead comp TF2 Matchmaking uses 6v6 without specific classes. It's quicker and easier to set up.

Look at Scout, he has literally free mobility with the double jump, and he's a class who can function well both at long and short range..

An airblast jump would cost 1/10 of Pyro's primary ammo per jump, so it wouldn't be free. You would also be paying the high cost of being Pyro.

You say Pyro is "balanced" by short range and the need to ambush, but let's face it, Pyro is far from balanced. It's a strong contender for worst class in the game. It could do with a buff in the vein of a skill-based movement technique that lets it actually get in range to attack.

Many of the shortcuts I've seen only save a second or two at best in exchange for 30 health. Sometimes that can be crucial, but most of the time it isn't. The other locations are ambush spots above doorways and props you can't normally reach, which sometimes that involves waiting around like an idiot for extended periods of time, and was usually advertised for use with the prenerf Puff'n'Sting tactic.
The mobility boost at the cost of health is a bad idea in combat compared to Rocket Jumping or the Atomizer, and if you're just traversing the map you'll wind up wasting some of the time you saved just grabbing a healthkit.
I like the Detonator a lot despite the disappointing mobility, and the Scorch Shot is probably better overall as a harassment tool. Scorch Shot doesn't have that delicious fireworks noise, though.

pyro is bad bc valve tried to make it something its not. taking the health penalty out of mobility jumping isn't skill-based for reasons above. he needs a buff because the flamethrower is both too easy to use and does horrible damage. his entire damage potential is in his secondaries.

And Pyro does even worse damage by far at both ranges. Not only is it outDPSed at long range by Scout's Pistol, but it's outDPSed at close range by Scout's Scattergun, too.

This is my point, that even with airblast jumps, Pyro won't be any better than Scout is. It'll still be 33% slower on the ground when not jumping, far shorter ranged, have its mobility source capped by a resource unlike Scout, and with less damage at both long and close range.

It's not something you have to worry about. So long as we don't go overboard with the distance which an airblast jump can propel Pyro (I was thinking the same distance as a Force-A-Nature jump, around 50 Hammer Units), it will be balanced.

Without reflect Pyro is a sitting duck for longer ranged classes. Let's say you use 6 airblast jumps to get somewhere quickly and then you have 4 airblasts left, as many as the Backburner. I've seen tons of female mods that keep the same silhouette of the regular marcs.

I've joined servers that let you swap between male and female models on a whim, and MOST of the cosmetics worked fine (shirts and shit looked weird because they suddenly lost their tits but hey)

This, for example, would still clearly be an engineer if all you saw was the silhouette.

The original reason the TF team gave was because they thought people would be upset killing women in such violent and gory ways.

The real reason is because they're either lazy or think a female merc will mess with their vision of the game (which kind of went out the window with a bunch of the cosmetics they added but whatever)

It's not just the silhouette. It's the entire shape.
For example, the tits. Those make the Engineer female version have a larger hitbox if the hitbox matches the model, putting the player at a disadvantage. And if the hitbox doesn't match the model, you get people complaining about holographic tits that don't take damage when sniped.

It's not worth the effort, controversy, and gameplay fuckery. It should just stay in the realm of mods, I for one am glad waifufags are rare in TF2 threads. It also means women don't think they're welcome, which is good because they're massive casuals.

Diamondback doesn't need to be nerfed. It's the second least popular Revolver both in competitive play and pub play.

Also, when I say "slightly smaller" that actually doesn't mean harder to hit. The waist on a female model generally curves in more, the hips flare out more, and the arms are thinner.

In tf2 you aim at 3 places on your enemies. Their feet, their center of mass, or their head. Head is only for sniper and sometimes spy, feet is only for soldier and demo. Anywhere else and you're literally just screwing around.

In actual practice, a sniper is never going to be purposefully aiming at the invisible hitbox where the engineer's man-waist used to be. He's going to be aiming for the head or a I-dont-give-a-shit bodyshot.

He's never going to miss because of that and if he does its going to be impossible to notice seeing as how you can have your crosshair right on somebody's face as you M1 and still miss the headshot in modern TF2 anyway.

a flamethrower with a tighter cone, switch from particles to projectiles, longer range but affected by gravity, and essentially make it a syringe gun with a wider cone with greatly increased direct damage in order to reward the new necessity for pyro's to aim. the skill floor is raised, TTK is lessened, and W+M1 babbies uninstall overnight. plus numerous bugfixes including the way airblast kills player momentum and pops them into a predictable arc no matter the angle they are airblasted.

Sentry Guns create a player-managed obstacle which encourages teamwork to bring down, is the ONLY strong counter to Scout in the game, defines the frontlines of battle, makes a whole bunch of classes have a useful function, and is fun to destroy.

Sentries allow very fun high mobility classes to co-exist with other classes and fight in wide open spaces without breaking the game due to their objective capturing power.

To answer your question, probably. Not enough weapons do bleed for it to be game-breaking and Scout is the only class that can have more than one weapon that can cause bleed equipped at the same time.

Engineers are the goalies of team fortress 2, they prevent the game from degenerating into both sides taking lazy potshots at goal and instead create an interesting scuffle outside the goal square.

bc I think the ability to rapidly close in on enemies as well as restricting their mobility with right clicks is a recipe for diaster. you can't have a cake and eat it too. one of pyro's best counters is backpedaling. he shouldn't have a gap-closer as well as a movement-denier.

Yes, that's what makes him so effective against retards, and so ineffective against players smart enough to press "S". It's not an acceptable state of affairs anon, it has to change.

In fact, I would even go as far as to say that backpedaling being the Pyro counter is the fundamental problem with the class.

Now that the Flamethrower requires more aim, the new counter to Pyro will be dodging left and right. Additionally, you will still be able to backpedal during a fight to force the Pyro to turn around and airblast jump towards you to get back in range, which means he isn't shooting during that time.

I think it's just easy to use Scout for those kind of scenes just because they have more "normal" proportions and you can really animate their appendages.

While this isn't to dismiss the crazy ass shit top Soldiers can get up to, by virtue of his reputation as one of the most powerful classes and his ubiquitous presence in competitive play, Soldier also has a low threshold to be effective, by design.

Is Righteous Bison the single worst weapon in TF2 now (compared to other things in its slot)?

Pretending that this would/could happen, I wouldn't mind too much so long as the designs were as good as the current ones, and not the female ones that're already drifting around. Admittedly, I would be very happy to see a female Pyro, even if I'm outing myself as an autist who likes Pyro in the first place.

I'm a little late for this, but the vaccinator these days is arguably better in some aspects than when it was first released, it was nerfed at first, then buffed, it's actually really strong these days with the fact that charges fully prevent crits without crits draining all your charges, can pop multiple different resistance charges at once, and charges while ubering.

I remember liking it when it came out because I could hide in stupid unreachable places and shoot at people without having to go get ammo, but even then the Cowmangler is far superior. They've probably nerfed the bison since then, though, for whatever reason.

Speaking of unnecessary nerfs that make weapons 100% useless, why the hell did they nerf the Caber so bad? Was it really that big of an issue that they had to make it completely meaningless? They might as well remove it from the game.

The fact that it could go through people made it good for crowds, except you're already the fucking soldier so you could just use your primary weapon made for taking care of crowds.
