If you need to change the setting to make it interesting, might as well not use it at all unless you are willing to go full steampunk, and even then, sticking to WWI would be a waste.

WWI is just not a good setting for anything but strategy games.
Verdun and BF1 are already proof that FPS should completely avoid it.
