gunplay is a serious downgrade compared to RO2/RS, M16 is less controllable than the BAR from Rising Storm (and that's without the veteran level foregrip and bipod) while the M60 and AK have you pointing at the moon within a single short burst. But my problem isn't the muzzle climb so much as it is the circular spray it turns into on full auto that conveniently fires everywhere EXCEPT the thing you are aiming at. However once you switch the AK and M16 to semi auto they are the ultimate pixel hunting sniper rifles that beat everything, literally no reason to use anything else.

the Ithacas on the American side all have fucked up aiming, the pellets come out like 5 feet under wherever you aim, don't bother with the trench gun or duckbill, ironically the shitty stakeout version is actually sort of possible to aim because the fucked up sight picture actually sort of corresponds to where the rounds will go, just aim slightly to the right of the Charlie you want to go away

And even by being super caucious I often end up killing one or two lone wolves who just keep running toward barrage or napalm.

The napalm bombs tend to fall short or kill people way outside their visible blast as well, I'm especially careful with those.

I played the game on open beta and damn was it bad
It feels like pre 2005 fps with the exception that it's insanely boring, mechanics are incredibly janky and slow and the gunplay feels really stiff and wonky, the only plus the game gets is the actual asthetic of nam with the incredibly attention to detail, everything else is just shit.

What's the appeal here for people?
Even a game like Wolfenstein ET has better gunplay and feeling to it than this one.

They've got a succesful KS campaign and sold almost 400k EA copies but still... That's quite a few millions to spend on the development of the game.

Instead their devs are leaving the team because they aren't getting paid... It's been a year and half since they began development and they aren't delivering on many promised features.

Meanwhile the guys behind PUBG shipped in two months a game on same engine miles ahead of Squad on all levels except being a try hard tactical shooter.

Hell they are even taking community made maps so they don't have to pay a mapper full time anymore... The guys behind the WW2 mod that is going pro already produced tenfold more content in a few months than the Squad devs in more than a year.

At this point modders of the tiny Squad community are contributing more to the game than the developers themselves...

Even the A10 CAS they showed was coded by a community member. How pathetic is that?

Not him, but there's no oxymoron when it comes to gameplay balance. Teams don't always have to be 1:1. Compare American SLs to VC. Americans spawn on their SLs and can spawn on points. VC have to place tunnels that need to be a specific distance from a point. That's asymmetric balance.

For instance, to use your example of SL spawns, VC are obliged to wait and hope for the SL to place a tunnel which may or may not ever occur, while every bumfuck GI can appear out of thin air next to the sarge. Now you'd think this would make the US team more powerful but in fact the contrary is true; American advances can invariably be stopped short by any gook with a gun who's playing point and click adventure games, while if a Vietnamese squad leader successfully places his tunnel, the US forces are unlikely to ever counter the waves of VC coming from their forward spawn and hiding behind their lines without lucking out with explosive strikes. Thus, asymmetry destroy balance.

Same applies. Americans can easily mow down all the spawning VCs. I've already had some great moments doing that with two other members of my squad on one of the rivers. Not to mention the VC's tunnel is out in the open, open to players destroying it or artillery destroying it while the US SL can hide in a bunker. They both have their advantages and disadvantages for your next point

On the other hand, you need to hope that your US SL can stay the fuck alive. My squad was inhibited severely because we had a level 1 retard that refused to use his mic and would just rush into enemy fire.

The VC SL in RS2 is newbie friendly. Place a tunnel and go be a faceless grunt while occasionally marking arty targets. US SL requires much more effort in this game and is rewarded with the ability to spawn on point. So if you want easier points, play the VC SL.

Radio operator is really helpful for VC. The "spawn-everyone-on-me" function the Commander gets is fucking great to do on a point with a radio operator. I did that a lot during the open beta.

There's really no reason the Americans couldn't just have a rally point like the VC, instead of having their squads automatically gimped because one person can't even participate in combat without potentially fucking over 5 other people, and by extension the whole team over time.

It also helps being on the move a lot since enemy commanders are prone to try to aim for where your radios are. I quit using the stationary ones after I died the second time to napalm attacks. I don't know, I just like being up on the front too to see what exactly I need to do. It helps I think.

Pretty easy to stay alive as SL. Just stay in cover close to the front line. Once your squad mates spawn on you and then die you should be able to tell where some of the enemies are and take them out and move up. Plus your squad can assist with smokes and covering fire.
