Has anyone played it chronologically yet? Is it any better?

Yeah, wasn't that bad for a youtube video
>>

I remember there being a stink about people hacking nudes out of the game.
>>
>>377540723
You can do that?

I couldn't stomach the entire game, I gave up, and I fucking loved Heavy Rain, this was just to cringy and boring.
>>
>>377540373
I don't know what to make of Beyond.

Like the ingredients are there to make something interesting, but the story was so disjointed that it was hard to stay invested in anything from scene to scene. I enjoyed the Super Secret North Korean Underwater Ghost Base Operation for how over-the-top popcorny it was though.

I thought Heavy Rain had its fair share of awkward moments too. But the overarching mystery had a stronger arc and sense of tension to follow through on.

Not to mention that Beyond Two Souls' branching choices didn't really come into play until the very end.
>>
This was Ellen Page's answer to TLOU.

TLOU's Ellie resembled Ellen Page...so they wanted to completely kill TLOU's sales with this.

Massive failure.

Not as bad as Indigo Prophecy.

But not as unintentionally hilarious either.

after my buddy played it I did a run though of this game with the controller out of my hands for most of the game. Beside a few more dead people that no one cared about the game was the exact same. Even the action sequences played out the exact same while I did nothing.

Also isn't David working on a new "game" now?
>>
David Cage is a hack. Why does he continue to get money?

>>377542029
>not as bad
I don't know, I think the disjointed nature of the story and sheer amount mediocrity in general makes Beyond worse. Indigo Prophecy is bad and insanely stupid, but at least it's outrageous and memorable because of that. Beyond's just kind of lukewarm throughout

>>377541824
Ah yes, the very fun part of this video game where you go and do miscellaneous daily chores on a native american farm.

I still don't understand the point of the Navajo part of the story. I know the ghosts were there and stuff, but it just seemed like filler for a story that really didn't need it.
>>
>>377542534
David Cage read the backstory to Deadlands and wanted to shove it in.
>>
>>377542534
ofcourse its a filler, as well more then half of the game to fill this shitty kino.

I guess I meant in terms of mechanics. I think Indigo had a much stronger start story-wise, but the stealth and claustrophobia sections in were genuinely painful to get through.

Beyond Two Souls' stealth wasn't exactly riveting, but it was much easier.

I guess it was world building, by showing that Ellen Paige and her powers weren't the first of their kind, but it doesn't really tie into anything outside of giving her another hunky love interest option in the end.

Beyond is the worst game for QTEs, I'm honestly shocked they even bothered to include them at all because they make zero difference. I think there's literally one QTE at the very end of the game that suddenly matters if you fail

>David Cage is a hack. Why does he continue to get money?

The games turn a profit. Not a lot of money, but it's not like they're an actual money sink. Meanwhile, they tend to really push the hardware and technology, which I'm sure Sony has some stake in as part of their contracts. Sony probably considers David Cage games as Research and Development that pays for itself before they even bother to re-use the developed tech.

>>
>>377544768
No I think that was ico
>>
>>377544509
Probably. The trailer I saw put a massive emphasis on an abundance of outcomes for each situation. So in that sense, failure is simply a choice and things progress from there. Of course whether or not that's shit depends on if that actually affects anything else in the game. A hostage negotiation being able to have like 10 different outcomes is meaningless if they "fix" the problem by simply having none of the outcomes matter.

In a weird way, I feel like Omikron was Cage's most ambitious project by far, considering the time that it came out.

Shooting, fighting sections, adventure game puzzles, walls of optional text for lore, etc. But wow did it collapse in on itself.

>>377544509
But he's right, and Heavy Rain is a good example of this. There's a section where you're a wounded fugitive trying to escape from the cops. If you fuck up and get caught, you don't get a game over screen, you get arrested and then have to break out of the police station interrogation room. If you then caught again during a second chase later in the game, you get locked up in jail and don't get to play as that character for the rest of the game. What's wrong with that? Having your failures result in branching storylines and objectives is much more interesting than just "Mission Failed! Restart Checkpoint?"
>>
>>377546154
I think that's an example of it being done right. Failing a task, and leading to new narrative outcomes.

But I don't recall Beyond Two Souls really having to many branching sections like that. I mainly just recall a section where she's trying to escape the lab to go to a bar, and being caught skips over the rest of that scene.
>>
>>377546620
Failure doesn't really impact much in Beyond Two Souls.
I think you can actually get a game over at the very end of the game if you fail a prompt or something, but I think simply because of how they chose to present the story, you couldn't have any real consequences for your actions, so failure just means some red blips on the screen, Ellen stumbling around for a bit, and cutting out some of the middle parts of story segments.
>>
>>377546620
You're exactly right, Beyond didn't change the game based on your failures, it literally didn't permit you to fail 95% of the time. You could put down the controller during a fight scene and still win, which is so odd considering the game before it got it right.
>>
>>377542029

>enjoy the game while it is happening
>get to the end
>realize everything was fucking stupid and nothing connected in any meaningful way
>>
>>377547230
It got it right but because the mechanism for the "choice" was QTEs and almost never an actual intentional choice, that ended up being null for most people. The things that really change up Heavy Rain rely on QTEs that are nearly impossible to fail. Most of them you really have to try to fuck up, which is why most people that play the game don't even know the game has branches.
