I just started actually, I don't know how to draw/sprite, make music, make sfx, program, or anything useful, so I figured I'd try to get the hang of each one individually then do fangame in Gamemaker. I may not finish a game but if I become skilled enough to do my own IP, I will. If anyone wants to give me any pointers with spriting, or where to start with the other steps, I would really appreciate it.
They're all custom with a few references, except Kirby in profile which is an edit of a pre-existing sprite. His walking animation in profile will be custom though.

these were the first big, full-fledged backgrounds I ever drew anon, so I'm sure you can get there too
if you look closely it's mostly just simple shapes and colors with some effects to make them look nicer
the trees in the bottom one for example, are just rectangles that I use photoshop's liquify on. same goes for the montains up top
the sun is just an orange circle with white glow inside, and a duplicate of it behind with gaussian blur
sky's just a gradient

overall just try looking for some references and color palettes that appeal to you, and don't take what I say for certain because I wouldn't even call myself really an artist, since I'm just doing these because our other artist vanished

Restarted an old project, first time in a half a year I've worked on anything. Made a sprite for the main character and it was the first time I've ever liked any artistic endeavor I've ever done.

The problem I have is that I felt like this was some huge accomplishment, so now I'm shitting around on /v/ and playing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. But its not a huge accomplishment at all. Its one, unanimated sprite for a Gamemaker game that I only have a year-old bare bones platforming code and one year-old piece of music I did with soundfonts in FL Studio. I'm making the slightly more "modern" bump-mapped graphics now because the programmer I'm working with got tasked by his job to learn UE4.
It's still very low-poly, because we were planning on making it a mobile game, but we're using normal maps and material shaders, etc.

That said, I feel like the progress has been very slow, and I fear it's just going to crash and be abandoned again.
I should really just focus on learning programming myself, I think.

Half the things aren't hooked up yet, like the spell animations, the texts, the target frame, etc so it's kind of a mess, but you can see the cast bar in action.
I'm making the HP frames right now, the one on the left is the player's and you can more or less see how it's looking.

I'll try to tone it down. Don't want to remove it entirely, because camera's animation makes the most impact in this action.
I lock the ability to rotate the camera and to move player character while attacking with the saber (so it's not like attacking with crowbar in Half-Life, where you can just run and jump while swinging your weapon), so the shake won't interfere with the controls, but I understand now that it can be too hectic.

The way it works now is that if you press the shield button right before a bullet hits you, you'll counter the bullet back towards the enemy. After I sped the bullets up, it became just about impossible to do that. I think I might increase the bullets speed, but also increase the maximum amount of time you can have your shield up, and still reflect the bullet.

It's not a clone of the entire game but rather just a heavy inspiration from the battle system. I plan to build the game in a similar fashion to others like Hearthstone where it is free to play, earn cards, build decks, battle others sort of style. I already have the game up and running with a primitive match maker on a dedicated server.

My main concerns are getting enough people interested and getting artwork/music completed. The MMBN sprites are placeholder art and at the rate I'm going, I'll have the game done before I even have any finalized art done, unfortunately.

God damnit, I've been trying to make this projectile shoot wherever my character is facing, but I can't get this damn quaternion.euler shit to work.

I'm trying to use data structures because I don't want to be a baddie (also I'm just trying to get better at coding in general). It's really easy to do if I keep it in the monobehavior InputHandler I have, but I want to instantiate the prefab projectile, then attach the projectile script to it. However when I instantiate, I can't pass variables, only their position and quaternion. Given those two things, I should be able to configure the direction of the velocity, but I can't get it to work.


Also if anyone is interested in implementing design patterns into their Unity game, this helps a bit in addition to looking it up on your own.

There's a bunch of design pattern examples, most are at least decent. The command pattern one could have been simplified through into a single script for the MovementCommand and MovementCommandReceiver.

Glad I saw this thread, so I'm making models in 3ds max 2017 and I'm wondering how I would go about setting up animation layers for non-humanoids. You don't need a rigidbody for transform.forward, the forward vector will always point at the direction the object is facing no matter what object it is, and all gameobjects have a transform. Just use object.transform.forward to get the direction they are facing. For movement, you can use lerp or any other function to change their movement.
Use transform.LookAt to direct where you want to point the object and then use transform.position + transform.forward to move it in that direction
You can even make an empty object that exists only to direct an object to another by rotating it so the other object doesn't need to be rotated in case you want to keep it's appearance in place

Well you can follow me on these threads, if I ever finish it you can be sure I'll post here on /v/.
For now you will only be able to play as her, but I do have the framework done for character creation. It's just a low priority now compared to the main things. If I ever finish it, custom characters will come as an update. Video related, I even went as far as making the customization blends. It's just very time consuming to implement and even more so if I want to add a male option, so it's on the back burner until after release.
