Geralt himself is well enough written, but anytime there's any sort of romance or focus on female characters it devolves into cliches, lazy writing, and nonsense. Like, the way Yennefer and Geralt end up together makes no sense. The short story books are still great, and is where the formula works best. That's a different problem altogether. Not changing enough eventually always kills a comic or a show while changing too much can instantly kill it.
Playing it safe allows for a longer live till people eventually realize they are watching the same over and over and over and drop it.

They could get away with going all SJW with one show or one game or one comic since depending on the story it could be an organic change... the problem is when the change is forced and just for the sake of making a political statement.

One particularly hard thing to translate to the film is the timeskipping stuff Sapkowski does here and there like the part where Dandelion's poems were found centuries later and immediately thrown in a campfire by illiterate mooks.

2bh an episodic TV show is the best way you could adapt a video game.
They keep trying movies because movies have, until recently, always been the better money-making medium.
But games are always too long to make into a 2 hour movie, so really if you're going to base something on long games like the Witcher games then yeah, a TV show could work.
