It's actually pretty decent for being able to take out two opponent monsters since tribute allows to easily remove your opponents stronger monsters.

Let's say the opponent has two monsters with 4k+ of atk. You have a raigeki break on the field, a lava golem on your hand with some random uselles other card.
You can summon the lava golem killing two of his monsters and then you use the raigeki break to eliminate your Golem.

first of all you are removing 2 monsters which might be more annoying than the lava golem
second of all, it's the opponent who takes 1000 damage each turn, not you, so it's direct face damage
third this was made during the era where monster actualy stayed on the field instead of being sacked for whatever synchro/xyz shit

The 1000 life points damage thing is done to the person whose side of the field that its on, and it destroy's two of their monsters by being summoned. Its typically used in burn decks with stuff that prevents attacks. For example, you give them the golem, then nightmare wheel it so it can't attack. Or gravity bind so most things cannot attack. Or set up two solar flare dragons, which means they can't attack either one, and the enemy takes 1000 points a turn. If you use enough burn stuff fast enough, you can completely destroy the opponent in two or three turns, sometimes in just one turn.

Non negating trap holes like Bottomless dont work on him cause he is technically on the field when they'd activate.
Regular trap hole wouldnt even activate cause it only works on normal summons.

I've been playing the game that matches up with when I stopped following the card game, which turns out to be GX: Beginning of Destiny.

Tag duels are RETARDED and building a good deck is tough as balls even with cheat engine letting me max out on cash for card packs.

Best thing I've managed to do is build a deck that stalls half the time and abuses Sphinx type and flip cards with Exxod.

Zoo are heavily reliant on Special summons, extra deck, traps, and targetting effects. Take away any of these and they struggle.
They get totally BTFO often by easy board wipes too, like a well timed torrential can leave them in a really bad position.
Most of Zoos actual threat is how broken staple traps are right now.

It's basically what the modern world considers kajiu.

Unless you can negate the effect it will literally "kill" any monster card since no cards are immune to tributing. This is extremely important in regards to the meta since almost everyone's "boss" monsters are immune to opponents card effects and/or can not be destroyed by card effect.

Pic related is a better "meta" option. This, swords of concealing light and quaking mirror force are about the only ways you are actually going to stop someone's boss monster at a card shop.

The meta gets infinitely worst. If zoo's are giving you a hard time then you need to get a more modern deck. If you wanna be that guy then you can buy 2-3 Dino structure packs then coin flip a win or a brick.
