Pretty awesome. Headdy is like one of the first games I remember wanting solely because of the art style.

Klonoa also never got the respect it deserved, it was a top tier game that's niche as hell. A lot of the non Crash or Spyro platformers on the PS1 didn't get the respect they deserved.

The thing is, Mario games don't release nearly as frequently as you might think. There is usually one platformer for each console, and then maybe one of each spin off series for each console. In recent years, there have been two platformers, one 2D and one 3D. And in the case of the 3D platformers they are still vastly different from one another and oozing with creativity.

I'm not that much of a Mario fan, but I think it would be unfair to the quality of its design to call the series stale.
