The only thing I can guess is these people are just recording whatever they're playing and then uploading it. I doubt this woman is editing hour long videos every day just to get 1-10 views.

Though it is a bit sad. I've personally done one uncharasmatic unregistered hypercam 2, 100 part letsplay from 2009 to the end of 2011 and uploaded one video every week. I completely stopped uploading videos in 2011 when I started University and never got back to the channel since graduating and I'm still getting 700 views per months whereas she would need to upload 70 videos to get that much.

I have a friend who does this, and I asked him pretty much that exact question.

He said that he found them fun to make. He knew he had next to no views, but the videos were still fun to make and edit, and he found that games are often more fun when you can vocalise your thoughts, describe the situation, make up funny stories etc.

For some it's delusional desperation because they honest to god think they'll make it and hit the big time, so they persist.

For others though it's a legitimately fun thing to do and a creative outlet. It brings both comfort and a challenge that can be beaten. You form a goal, put in effort and reach it. If your mindset immediately wonders why they're bothering if they aren't making money or fame, then consider why you "waste" time with entertainment yourself. Instead of watching movies or playing vidya they've decided to waste time on projects since they enjoy them. Which is completely fine. The first option and second are both likely reasons as to why people do this.

I make videos for fun. Sometimes I just keep them private or don't upload them at all.

But even if you're not an e-celeb if title the videos exactly around what people are going to search for you're going to gain a lot views.

If you post a video around a certain part of the game people get stuck on, include that in the title. People are going to search for "Undertale Sans fight" and if you're the first person to have bothered naming your video "LP Undertale part x: let's fight Sans!" you'll get the views even if you have the charisma of a lawn gnome.

I've been streaming on twitch for about 5 years now - give and take a large sum of months where I stopped giving a shit.

I average about 5 viewers, still. This is probably due to a few reasons, but the main one being a lack of set scheduling, and playing what I want to play.

The amount of cool people I've met is not measurable. I've interacted with people from all over the globe, gotten to know some more intimately. Those memories keep me going - since I know I'll be able to make more, and I have, consistently.

I've said it for 5 years - the day when I just get no one rocking up - that's when I hang it up. Until then, I'll keep trucking, because it's fun.

It really isn't, it was always about offering something unique. It's just that at the beginning simply a person streaming/recording their playthrough was unique, now you have to offer something more than that to be relevant.

But on a broader subject, I really wander why people feel sad when they see someone not making it. My best bet is that they apply it to their own insecurities and it's more of a reminder that it's a good thing that they've never done anything. Also this "feeling sad" magically disappears when a person suddenly becomes famous, now it's suddenly an inspiring story of struggle against the odds.

But yeah i don't really think that this chick is doing everything in her powah. The prevalent strategy in the success field is "just do it, the most important thing is doing it, just show up and you will make it at the end". And while this is certainly important I think that just as important is trying different stuff out and seeing what would stick, what would bring the most value to people. Usually making something kinda viral is enough to bring people to your stuff.

Still, at the end of the day this chick is just playing the games that she hopefully enjoys and is developing a skill of talking to the camera so nothing is lost, really.

Hi, guys, it's Nora! I'm an italian girl who loves playing indie adventure games. Often, while I watch videos on Youtube in search of a new game to buy, I find myself thinking that most of let's play channels just showcase some guy who yells, screams, and gets annoyed at every little thing in a attempt at humor. Sometimes, I can't even sit through the intro to one of these videos without going deaf. What is it with the "scream" trend on YouTube? I say enough! LET THE GAME SPEAK!

My goal is upload at least one video every day, sometimes two! If you have any suggestion, please leave a comment below the videos...and If you like my gameplays, don't forget to subscribe!

Personally the only type of game content I enjoy watching is extreme technical masters doing their thing. I'm not necessarily talking about professional players. Many great technicians become excellent at a niche aspect of a game specifically because they have the freedom to play how they want without worrying about how the lost training might affect their tournament performance.

Unfortunately, most of these people are highly focused on their games of choice and don't stop to make videos of what they're doing

I always thought about making a let's play video, not because I want to become some 'youtuber' but because I thought it might be a good opportunity to practise speaking English.

Now, you can probably get the same practice without uploading it to Youtube, but if you've gone through the trouble of making the video you might as well upload it. If 20 people watch it, and a few end up enjoying it that seems like a positive outcome to me.

Massive amounts of advertisement on places like Reddit or Facebook coupled with some kind of personality people would actually want to watch. The worst part about modern Youtube is that if someone doesn't watch the video the whole way through (So for example you add something at the end like a "Click here") it doesn't count as well as a video that did have people watch all the way through in terms of showing up in search results. Likes and viewcount sort of matter as well, but it seems like that full viewing determines how high you're going to show up on the search results and if your channel is considered "verified" by Youtube itself.

Nowadays it's a massive snowball effect and you need people to share your videos and find your stuff funny to the point that you're being talked in many forums and groups if you want to succeed at all which takes a considerable amount of effort. This is especially important if you don't have a personality or some sort of act people are interested in like with MichaelCthulhu and his weapon welding, the HydraulicPress channel and them squishing stuff, that one viral 1000 degree knife (Ifixit or something) channel that simply cuts through things, or Primitive Technology and his tutorials on how to build things out of random stuff in your environment.

I draw. I've almost certainly done 40 hours of it a week, I've probably put a combined 40 hours in just one piece, iunno that seems like a lot so maybe not that much. I have about 60 followers. I've been working on a comic for about a month now, pretty much the only reason I'm doing it is to do it, It's an idea that I want to see realized.

As long as you got time to do it, you really can just do these things just because it's something you want to do. If you get caught up with pure net reward of it, you're either an under the radar creator who is probably disingenuous about his material in the first place or you're someone who can't relate and just assume everyone without a big audience is the former.
