I think it demonstrates the same effect in a way that is more appropriate for the technology devs have today. I don't think the decision was made to have the change be made came from "we want to appeal to SJWs", I think the change was made because the original was just a few low poly models standing still and that simply wouldn't cut it today. So they redid the whole thing and and when they were animating it they just decided to start it with her not going quietly.

If anything, it's a prequel to the version we get in the original game.

In the original though it didn't make much sense. It doesn't show how or why she got captured. And given that the original crash games were already pushing the limits of the PS1 (crash wears gloves because they couldn't model his hands), its likely they left it out.

Out of the 3 main games from PS1, Crash 1 of course aged the most in terms of graphics, still, it looks pretty fucking cool, it rarely break the "illusion" but some animations are a bit rough and the models as well.

Crash 2 was a great fucking step, though, look at how Crash looks and moves and reacts to things around him and compare it to fucking DK64, stage design, background, colors and everything. Crash 2 and 3 look so alive.

These ports are desperately needed.
I don't think there's a console whose titles have aged visually as poorly as the PS1. That early 3D just doesn't hold up anymore. It has a lot to do with the way the PlayStation renders polygons, compared to the N64 and Saturn which were a lot less "fuzzy"

Still waiting for that MGS remaster.

I have no bias towards the N64. It certainly has less good games than the PS1 does (though both consoles are terribly overrated). I'm just saying that PS1 games have not aged well at all, while games on consoles older than it have.
As far as the N64 is concerned, it's visuals have generally aged better. At the time it's use of larger textures made it look more primitive in comparison, but looking back now the edges look more defined because there's less of them.
