They're kept grounded by their constant interaction with ordinary people, and while obviously there's often a lot of sadness associated with their coming, it's not as though they take joy in that fact.

Contrast this with edgy fucks who run around murdering and glorifying death, and it's rather obvious where the distinction comes.

Death isn't the reason for the bad things that happen to people, he's just the cosmic janitor there to clean up the mess.

Joe Madeura isnt working on 3 is why, his studio that made the first two games was taken down by THQ when they crashed.

Nordic bought multiple THQ IPs including Darksiders, and picked up many of the original developers sans Madeura. However DS3 has his blessing and support, he just wont be the art director for it.

That being said Nordic is aware of the lukewarm response to her design and thankfully they're early enough in the project to alter the designs like War's original boring space marine design.

War's entire character is his armor, his face was thinner and he didn't have the fiery brand on his face. His armor went from flat grey plates and a green hood to an extremely bulky and ancient looking suit that looked like power armor. His silhouette went from larger guy to fuckhuge demonic space marine.
His original armor was absolutely not a placeholder, they constantly talked about just adding it in as a easter egg but everyone thought it was boring and lame. It was fully rigged and had all of War's attack animations, going over all of War's animations again with his current model took a long time and was responsible for the delays announcing the game.

To be fair, Death had like a billion different outfits in the game and we've only seen one of Fury's, but even her base design feels incredibly bland.
