I unironically think this is the most kino boss fights in all soulsborne games.

There are other kino boss fights, most of them are in BB and DaS3, but no matter how amazing Maria/Ludwig/Orphan/Eileen or Gehrman can be, nothing comes close to Gael.

First it's objectively a great boss from a mechanical and gameplay point of view, and second, it's also the perfect ending for the trilogy; it's literally the end of the world, and there are two people left, two literally whos, one of them being a guy that sacrificed himself and spent eons eating every dark soul bearer and hoping you can beat him and give the blood to a little girl that could paint hope.

The cool part is that he's a literally who, just a random slave undead that lived to see the very end of the age of fire. When people bitch about the the ending, I seriously don't understand it. Dark Souls doesn't need that, major plot points are resolved and when you really look at it, any other other ending would have been useless. Because there is not ending, like for Bloodborne, cycles will come and go, link the fire or not, it doesn't matter, nothing matters, eventually the flame dies, only darkness remains, until it comes back to life.

Even the intro/mid fight cinematics have this tone. First one, you see Gael asking for your dark soul, since you're the only person left on earth to have one. Second cinematic, they could have done some huge thing like for Ludwig, but no, you get one sentence during a black screen. Then shit gets real.

Then what? Gael dies. The real endings are after SoC, the DLC gave you an escape path, free from the cycles (maybe), but Gael is still a nobody in a future that MIGHT happen. Real ending is spending an entire age of dark fucking Yuria and her sister while rulling humans.

I went in the DLC at NG+ and after dying 6 times to Gael, I respec'd to aquamarine dagger and beat him first try. Meanwhile I died 15 times to Midir while taking maybe 1/40 of his health bar and gave up. He's the only soulsborne boss where I just said fuck it.

I think hitboxes have improved over time, Bloodborne and DaS3 being miles above 2, 1 and DeS, mainly due to the new engine, and DaS3 is ALMOST perfect.

But Gael's hitboxes are just 10/10, accurate to the milimeter, no matter what attack, it makes the fight so much more fun and fair.

I finished BB 10 times, and loved every soundtrack, but for some reason, they weren't really memorable, they didn't stick with me. While many DaS3 soundtracks got stuck in my head the first time I heard them.

Music is very subjective and I respect your opinion, but I think DaS3 has by far the best soundtracks in any soulsborne game. I admit that I have a huge boner for DaS3 and like it ALMOST as much as BB, but soundtrack wise, things like Gael's theme or abyss watchers, Yhorm, Armour, Pontiff and others are masterpieces, mainly gael and watchers.

That's a possible theory, but you're forgetting one (3) thing.

When the pygmy say "the red hood is here", at least for me it implies that Gael has been eating people for quite some time, to the point where they gave him this name, he's gained a reputation. If a literally who with a red cape comes for you, and you've never seen him or heard from him, you're gonna say "that psycopath with a red hood started butchering us".

That and the fact that since the furtive pygmy split his soul to every human, eating just the pygmy lords isn't enough. Since the blood is dried up he had to eat the entire dark souls, and therefore everyone, in order for it to be mixed with his blood and be used a painting.

And third, he's had a physical transformation, his back is fucked and he clearly became mad/blood drunk, I doubt this happened by eating 9 pygmy lords. Plus his sword is broken and in a way worse shape than what it used to be.

And that would mean each Pigmy Lord is really nothing special in terms of strength, since they are essentially humans. Not sure how consuming them would grant such a vast increase in strength unless he somehow killed millions of them or there's something I'm missing.

And I don't think Gael created the lightning directly. He doesn't seem to have a cast attack or anything, they just appear and can damage him, which implies he's not the one controlling them. The Dark Soul is only as powerful as its carrier, really. Gael killed the pygmy lords because they were the primordial holders of the Dark Soul and presumably its most powerful hosts. But obviously it wasn't enough, which is part of why he fights you, because the Ashen One is arguably the most powerful person alive and has fed their Dark Soul relentlessly.
And it wasn't fragmented, it was duplicated. That's part of its power. The other Lord Souls were found already powerful, but they diminish as they are split and shared. The Dark Soul was found weak, barely an ember, but it may be shared endlessly, and it may be fed and grow in power. It's why the Age of Dark or Age of Men is seen as an inevitability.
All of this may or may not be canon but it sounds good on paper.

Yes, it's more restricted and streamlined in terms of gameplay, but it's a joy to play, it's visceral, fast, has a 10/10 art direction, great bosses, great soundtracks, great lore, fucking god tier clothes and Eileen, hoonter of hoonters. It does have problems and some aspects are better in other soulsborne games, but overhaul I'd say it's the most solid one. Mainly because it's an exclusive, which means focus on one platform, and a new engine that makes everything so much cooler. I'm going to be honest, not since Dark Souls 1 have I solo'd bosses, I've always played in multiplayer since.

However, the other day I was forced to do Midir alone because my friend didn't want to fight him, and it seemed incredibly like a fucking insurmountable challenge, but I stuck at it and with shaking hands I finally beat the big fuck after about 14 tries.

It was a blast, I've been doing it fucking wrong for ages playing with people. I'm doing another playthrough where it's just me on NG5, no phantoms at all.

I've always been curious on how strong Lorian is, I mean he supposedly bested the Demon Prince but asides from just chilling with his senpai, there wasn't a whole lot he done by the seems of it.

Ever since Byrgenwerth discovered the old blood theyve been able to do crazy magic shit. Since we find a cord at the old hunters workshop we can assume Gherman used that to contact the Moon Presence and make the Hunters dream.

The Great ones all want children and/or surrogates. Gherman was its surrogate, so you kill Gherman he will take you as a surrogate in his place.

When the Hunters raided the Fishing Hamlet at the command of Byrgenwerth, the Orphan of Kos was sympathetic to their plight, so the Orphan cursed all Hunters to be dragged into the Nightmare. Also, delayed attacks aren't very interesting in general. They're just a "GOTCHA" kind of move that just requires you to wait half a second more on your rolls. Yes and no. Gwyn burned the entire time because he was not!Zeus and basically the top god of all existence, and when you find him the Fire as all but burnt his power away.

Everyone else who Linked ended up burning for a while but eventually "died" when the Linking was over and the Fire kept going. The Lords of Cinder came back because the Fire needed more fuel but the only ones even able to attempt a Link were all dead/insane.

Of course, considering Soul of Cinder's existence, one could say everyone who ever Linked the Fire is always burning in some manner

I hate Dark Souls III. I hate the fact that there are only two types of rolls making heavier armor an easy choice. I hate how each roll has shitloads of invincibility so as long as you have stamina you can never get hit. I hate the uninspired locales, the awful color palette, the shit level design, the shitloads of Estus making the game piss easy.

the first flame needs to be lit to literally keep the world alive, because the state the world is in is unnatural, it only ever existed this way due to the flame.

without it.. you get the world shown to you before the Gael fight, an endless dark land of ash with no one in it.

For me the best souls boss award would go to Midir. I've always enjoyed fighting creatures 500 times my size, making myself seem puny in comparison. Being able to beat something despite all those odds feels strangely satisfying to me. The theme of an immortal dragon who gets used as a trashcan who needs to eat dark shit and goes insane is also pretty fucking rad, even the church questline beforehand leads up to a beautiful moment, you get introduced to a boss for once. Midir observes you when you enter the city, you toss him into the abyss later on and know exactly what to do.
