I liked Bloodborne. I thought it was a cool adaptation of the Souls formula.

After reading this thread; am I the only person who would like the Souls series to move back towards slower, more paced combat?

I enjoyed DS1's take on it; rolling wasn't spammable indefinitely (no dwgr at SL34698 doesnt count) and the game wasn't such a slick and floaty experience.

It had rough edges sure (looking at you split damage, dwgr, lagstabbing)

But I still think the series overall has deteriorated, not improved. I enjoy them all, DS3/DS2 included, but the overall direction towards dodgeroll-dodgeroll-dodgeroll-dodgeroll-dodgeroll is a bad thing, not good.

I sort of agree. I love both styles but I don't like that DS3 adopted the speed and more forgiving nature of Bloodborne.

I'm a huge soulsfag so I would love it if FROM just kept making Dark Souls and Bloodborne games. In a perfect world Dark Souls would be slower and methodical with every mistake being punished while Bloodborne follow ups would be focused on the faster, more aggressive combat.

Bloodborne has flaws for sure. As someone that has actually played it, I can tell you those flaws revolve around:
>+Damage blood gems always being better than any other type, making the system pointless
>Some of the boss pacing is weird (Vicar has the third most health in the game)
>Hunter Tools are pretty shit
>Arcane and Bloodtinge in general are pretty shit, with the exception of some PvP cheese if you really know how to build the character. Your first timer will only make the game harder for themselves by focusing on those stats

Same here. I mean, I do think that its probably the best game of the "franchise" for me personally, but people seem to put it on a pedestral thats towering high above the others, and I just don't see that.

I loved the game's general gameflow. No shields, visceral attacks, and ditching estus for blood vials you can replenish as drops on enemies all favor a much more forward playstyle. Loved the atmosphere, general art direction and eldritch lore. I loved pretty much everything about it.

But still, I don't think it was that ahead of the other titles. If I'd rate Dark Souls a 9/10, then I'd rate Bloodborne a 9/10 too. I definitely enjoyed BB more, but just game wise, I don't think they're that far apart in terms of general quality and direction(personal preference and enjoyment aside.)

They really nailed it in the DLC but much of the vanilla game ended up being less memorable than the other souls games because I never spent more than a handful of attempts beating any boss and didn't form any real attachment to them as a result. Up to Gascoigne you can trade and heal, and outright avoid high-damage enemies. Sure, it'll be harder than just learning the mechanics, but not hard enough to force you to do so. Community patch made it fully playable with KB+M, you could play with a gamepad with no problems and no patches.

Bloodthinge scales the gun damage as well as the visceral attacks, but t's depending on your skill to pull those off.

Sony's marketing and funding of smaller companies like From Software allow games like Bloodborne to exist. If Sony opened the flood gates and released all their games on PC they'd lose a lot of money in the console market (where they're making a killing), this is money that goes towards funding of future Bloodbornes, companies that make future Bloodbornes and Sony themselves. One hand washes the other. No exclusives, worse games.
