Wind Waker hands-down has the best combat in the series. Most fluid item usage, engaging combo and counter system, well-designed enemies and a great variety of enemy types.

CoD was best when it was a WW2 shooter. Modern Warfare was good, but it shouldn't have been called CoD, since the series has now been tainted forever by BlOps 2 and MoW2, Ghost, etc.

There's nothing wrong in casually playing games, and basing your entire identity around being a "gamer" is a waste of time.

The FPS genre will likely not advance, since the big innovator in cooperative multiplayer (early TF2) is dead and will never come back.

Consoles and PCs have their own places in the market and shouldn't be compared as much as they are. Consoles will never have some of the genres that thrive on PC and they shouldn't. But they are a better gaming option for various people, mostly normies.

Ever 3D Zelda game is one of the greatest games ever made.

I can honest to god have fun with any game put in front of me. Even if a game is bad I can get some enjoyment out of it. Those poor games only stand to make the good ones look better, and the amazing ones look stellar in comparison. While critical thinking should be encouraged, that is rarely what people on /v/ present.
Needless shitflinging over every little thing in hopes to have threads on par with TORtanic, ME3, DA2 etc has left this board in a sad state of affairs where nobody can look forward to, or discuss any particular game without someone coming in to insist that it will be a disaster and the blunder of the century. People no longer come here to talk about video games, but rather to let off steam and feed off of manufactured controversy as an outlet for their anger, all the while having a sense of satisfaction because they think they're criticizing something and tricking themselves into thinking that they are savants because nothing is good enough for them.
For every 30 threads I go in that are awful, 1 will be good. Over the years I've learned to dislike Reddit and Tumblr for their userbase and formating. /v/ was the only place to talk about video games properly and even that is done now. With every other popular forum ruined for me and /v/ gone to shit I've recently started chatting with my real friends about video games and its been a breath of fresh air to hear some optimism and fair criticisms.
It's fitting that my last post on 4chan will be in a thread that's negative for the sake of being negative where everyone will inevitably call me a faggot and spam reaction images once I post this. I guess in that regard I've done the thread justice since this will inherently be an unpopular opinion that's viewed as pretentious and melodramatic.

Honestly? I thought the settlement building was an amazing addition to the series and most of the fun I had was crafting them. Especially, The Castle.

Also, the exploration was pretty fun too. Several locations have their own little stories or unique events that you discover just by looking around. If you only ever go to the places with quest markers, like most people do, then of course you're going to be disappointed because all quests are the same shit. If you actually take a bit to explore everything you see, there are fun discoveries to be had.

Also, gunplay and VATS got a general improvement from previous games, even if the skills/perks were eliminated/streamlined for casual kiddies. You can hate the gameplay all you want, but you can't deny handling and aiming guns feels way better in 4 than any of the others.

But DA2 was great. It really pushed for a character focused narrative, making the city as much a character as the party members, and used character traits that were outside the norm for WRPG's, straying close to jrpg tropes at time. It also innovated the combat system by taking the combo system and spreading it across all classes instead of letting mages have all the fun, plus the dynamic spawns made for more active battles. Story dealt with political intrigue and moral ideals and not just the generic good versus evil story. It was a real breather from the tired old WRPG the west usually produces.

Dunno if you're still here or not, but while I love Toriyama's monster design, his people have a horrible same-face look to it. It's hard to take a game seriously when I look at the hero and think "Oh, I'm playing Trunks". The designs start meshing together, and I can only really identify the characters if they're wearing their clothes.

Sugiyama rehashes a lot of his music per game. I do know and acknowledge he makes new pieces every game, but over all they're very similar to one another in terms of scope and theme.

Neither of them really push themselves outside of their own boundaries to make a better example, and I think it's about time they stepped aside for people who are a little more self-motivated to do better than last time as opposed to doing "just as well".

I also understand that a lot of this would be devastating to the people of Japan as they consider that trio a national treasure, but I genuinely think that DQ has a fantastic and simple mechanic/concept under the hood of their games (which needs a little tweaking here and there) and enjoy them very much, but I would like to see the series fix a few things, and I think the fact that they're chained to making sure that it's the holy trinity that makes a new DQ is what is holding it back.

The dialogue of Borderlands is shit, but the basic framework of the story, world, characters, and general plotlines have potential.
When coupled with what I find to be a great artstyle, fun gameplay and a soundtrack made by my favourite video game composer, Jesper Kyd, I can suffer through the poor overly PC unfunny dialogue and greatly enjoy the games in all other aspects.

I don't know if there's a more common term for this, but in any competitive game, there's a point I call "the winning point" in which the game is not yet over, but the winner has, barring egregious human error, essentially already been decided. Such as in a racing game when your opponent is one lap ahead of you on the final lap of a racing game, or when in a fighting game, you have a sliver of health and your opponent has a full bar + full special + support character. Points in the game where as long as you don't fuck up, you've already won.

I think it's incredibly rude and obnoxious to insist anyone play past that point in a game, winning OR losing, and that it's completely okay to pause and restart a new game should you pass that point. Anyone who insists that you play the game out are just douche bags.

Mass Effect 3 is the pinnacle of videogames and has yet to be topped. It's like watching something as great as Star Wars or Star Trek except you are actually in it plus the multiplayer is the best of it's kind

Calling Super Mario 3D World a bad/mediocre game is completely fine, but if you're one of those people that say it's not "a real Mario game", you're full of shit.

Muramasa was already a great action game, the Rebirth rerelease with the additional content and remappable controls is enough to make it one of the best action games in my eyes. It's seriously a crime that Rebirth was only released on Vita.

As someone who's first Final Fantasy was X, I think it has mediocre story and characters and it overall hasn't aged that greatly. However, I argue that its combat alone is enough to make it one of the better Final Fantasy games.

The Wii is a decent console. Yeah, it's got shovelware out the ass, but the stuff that isn't shovelware is at least decent and at most pretty great.

As a fighting game player, the last thing I want to see is "eSports" getting involved with the genre. The corporatism sickens me. I'm all for a good, friendly environment and more people getting into the genre, but I don't think we need "eSports" to do it. I want people to play fighting games because they like fighting games, not for money.
