Overall I'm pretty happy with the new Smash Bros.
But holy shit they took the fun out of my main.
First they take out his cool final smash for not Masked Dedede but a shitty combo.
They removed the waddle dee throw.
>No more qt Waddle Dees walking on stage
>No more flesh shields for all projectile
>No more chain throws
>No more Waddle Doo addin some sexual tension
>Gordos aren't that surprise attack that gives you 70 % damage anymore
I can tolerate Dark Pit and Lucina but I can't forgive what you did to my Waddle Dees
Well, Bandana Dee could be DLC, so who knows? Also, from what I've seen, Dedede looks really good. Not as good as Zero Suit Samus, but he seems like he can definitely hold his own against everyone.
>mfw nothing Masked Dedede related whatsoever
>Dedede is universally considered buffed
>Complaining about Gordos actually being applicable and not down to luck
Don't main a character yet.
Play whatever characters looks cool to you + Some random matches.
You'll get a feeling with certain character(s) and you'll start getting better with them.
DDD has better aerials, more combo ability, Gordos hurt like hell, and can still kill pretty early. He lost chain grabs and bair, but he's still wrecking shit.
And Masked DDD is stupid and I don't understand the obsession with it.
You're missing the point.
I'm not a competitive smash player.
Waddle Dees were fun and cute as fuck.
And the tension of not knowing when a Gordo will come out was fun too.
It's like the Stich Face beet with Peach. Sometime randomeness is more fun and enjoyable.
>tfw Olimar and G&W are apparently shit tier now
I use that, but sometimes I'm nolt fast enough, how do I use his clawshot? Everytime I'm next to an edge I press L to grab it and nothing happens
Of course. The demo is very limited though so I'm starting with my favorite, Link. After I'll get good enough with him I'll move on to other characters
Question for importers.
Can you 2v2 online with a friend?
Friend and I vs. Randoms online
>I'm not a competitive smash player
What does that have to do with anything? Dedede's better overall, regardless of how you play.
maybe one of his alt specials will be waddle dees anon.
Either way, throwing motherfucking gordos is great. Make your enemies
If it's like Kid Icarus then no, you'll probably have to get the other two players to enter your room or play against CPUs, but I don't have the game to help you, I'm just guessing 'cause Sakurai. Maybe he changed that.
Double jump and use Link's up special. Also, when someone is trying to get back up on stage, jump and hit them with his down air. It's been changed to a spike, so they'll go straight down and die.
Prove to me that the 3DS didn't fuck this game
>No Ice Climbers because of 3DS limitations
>No waddle dees because of 3DS limitations
>Only 3 pikmin because of 3DS limitations
what else am I missing
We all know it did. Some people try to deny it, which is pretty humorous. Sakurai dick riders are the worst, to be honest. I like the guy just as much as anyone else, but some refuse to recognize his mistakes.
>what else am I missing
Nothing important, like the things you listed.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's his down A. It's the same thing he does from Zelda II. It looks like this.
>The novelty of a playable, good portable smash bros outweighs all of those.
And the shitty controls you have to deal with plus shit online and forcing everyone you play with to won a separate copy completely outweigh the idea of portable smash, so
No...Olimar was my main. Now that he's shit where do I go? Who will have me? I don't know what do to with myself now....
>plus shit online
Judging from the streams the online is pretty consistently great, people have compared it to offline play at times almost no lag. But of course people with worse connections are going to shit things up from time to time.
>forcing everyone you play with to won a separate copy
Nearly everyone who owns a 3DS and regularly plays it will buy Smash Bros, this is a fact.
Awesome, will do, thanks for the tip!
I still don't know how to use the clawshot well when I'm midair but I'll keep trying (it's L right? should I press it with a direction?). If you have anymore tips, I'd love to hear 'em
>tfw in east coast of the US fucking A and playing with nips online with next to no lag
Then again I only play 1v1 online, so 4P matches may be another story.
I like the controls on 3DS more than the GameCube controller but I just love handhelds.
You know what I like about Smash 4? No character is useless anymore. All the heavy characters either got speed buffs or their damage output is worth it.
Except for Ganon, he's still shit.
Ganondorf looks better than his Brawl counterpart.
Which isn't saying a lot but whatever.
Also Mega Man is useless. Expect him to become the shit tier joke pick of the game quickly.
I would actually prefer Mega Man to be low tier just because I like playing low tier characters and MM is my favorite newcomer
But his moveset is just so fucking dull and boring and he's not very fun to play
>>No waddle dees because of 3DS limitations
>>Only 3 pikmin because of 3DS limitations
I think they changed those for balancing and consistency purposes, rather than limitations.
>holds the torch of his Fsmash with two hands now
>is pretty fucking small
>has a custom move that either gives you a 1 or a 9 when you use Judgment
There would be more info if fucking streamers actually use him.
Hyper Bomb (Tosses an arched bomb)
Danger Wrap (Bubble floats up)
Ice Clasher (Shoots ice thing that freezes, useless)
Plant Shield (Petals do more damage, doesn't travel as far when thrown)
Isn't he that way in Project M too? He also has a specific order that his pikmin come out in now so you can plan ahead. His recovery isn't a fucking tether anymore either. Those seem like overall buffs to me.
>Zelda still garbage
She actually is pretty decent and is one of the few chars that can kill at 80% light chars since they buffed her aerials. also her recovery now is quicker and favors the ledge and you don't have to really aim for it anymore
I'd say shes a 6.7/10
No Masked Dedede
No Kirby Triple Deluxe stage with Queen as Stage Boss
No Kirby Hyper Super Nova as his Final Smash, instead just a sword Final Smash that looks like a repaint of Link/Toon Link
Why even bother living
>Half the pikmin count is a HUGE Nerf for obvious reasons
>to make matters worse pikmins are 2slow to keep up with Olimar
>aerials are now slow
>Pikmin Pattern doesn't help for shit
>recovery encourages the player to return in a vulnerable state
Jesus, t-they neutered him
where are his testicles? atleast the item pickup is cool
Literally both the same, only difference is taunts. same physics, they BOTH have tippers. also the tip box was shrunk alot and not nearly as easy to get triggering. Easiest moves to get it on are f-tilt and downair
He has 4 Pikmin in PM, which is a better amount than 3 since 3 barely leaves Olimar with options. And Pikmin Chain was more of a stage control attack than a recovery, so loosing that was a bad thing.
Why would you want stage bosses
3D was way too new for Smash.
Masked Dedede's only good for the song
Maybe it will be in the Wii U version, stage bosses are shit, and only her song should make it in
It's from Return to Dream Land and Hyper Nova was trash. If anything, it should have been Mic or Crash
I own and XL and have baby hands (5'8, 125 lbs manlet) and the damn thing is still way too small for me. Hands cramp like crazy
The standard 3DS with the CCP felt really nice though
Anyone else notice Sakurai's bullshit? He adds TWO characters to his own series [Kirby last game, Kid Icarus this time] literally TRIPLING the amount of playable chars.
He's done it twice now. While Metroid, DK, Mother, F-Zero, etc are left to rot.
>think "I don't really care about smash anymore"
>get a demo code randomly from a friend of a friend
>"I guess I'll try it"
>controls feels so good
>perfectly smooth frame rate
>beat every character with every character on level 7, 8 and then 9
>can't stop playing as Mario
>look up from DS
>6 hours have passed.
Fuck you Nintendo. Your advertisement in the form of a demo worked on me.
Metroid doesn't need another rep, full stop.
I agree they do need somebody like Dixie or Cranky but whatever.
F-Zero hasn't had a game since the GBA and Gamecube days, hell Falcon's moveset itself is recycled from what Smash was gonna be before it became Smash.
>Hated Bowser in Melee and Brawl
>Hated Charizard in Brawl
>They are both now one of my most used characters in Smash 4
>Pac Man replaced Ike
>Villager turned into a replacement Snake
I did not see this coming, my mains are completely changed now. I also never thought I would enjoy playing as
Wendyas much as I do. Trying to get good with little mac and jigglypuff too.
DK deserves something by now, maybe Dixie or Cranky
F-Zero only needs CF and new stages and music.
Mother loosing Mother 3 content really sucks, I'll admit.
All Metroid needs is just more Prime content, Dark Samus or Ridley would be fine playable characters, but I'm not too mad at them not being reps.
Sakurai isn't planning to even make another KI game, he's done with the series, he probably figured he'd put them in because they're probably not gonna get another shot for who knows how long.
>There's a clock on the bottom screen.
I genuinely didn't notice and now I feel retarded.
Opinions have literally NOTHING to do with it, The director of the Mother said he's DONE with the series after Mother 3, D-O-N-E. It's over, there hasn't been a Mother game since the GBA. It's ofically dead.
If you're helpless (or "special falling") you can't use tethers in midair, or anything really, just direct your fall and grab ledges. Using Spin Attack makes you helpless, so you have to fire the clawshot before using your up-B
The only way I'd want Mother to come back as a series is if they reboot it, and have it be "jrpg written and designed by actual authors" since that's what Mother basically is. Just keep the same general gameplay and go crazy with everything. Even change the name if they want.
>"jrpg written and designed by actual authors" since that's what Mother basically is.
All three mother games have a central theme and specific tone though. The juxtaposition of childlike presentation and charming humor against darker background themes is largely why people like the series
I think he's nerfed a little bit as an individual character. His useful moves from the last game (bair, up til, down tilt) are now less useful.
However, because of the general changes to the mechanics of the game, he's also been buffed in a way.
>>has a custom move that either gives you a 1 or a 9 when you use Judgment
>mfw luigi doesnt get a thunderhand custom
Sakurai admitted they could get 4 Ice Climbers running on the 3DS at once
I'd imagine having 4 DDDs throwing Waddle Dees or 4 Olimar's with 24 pikmin running about would have similar issues
They were fine. It's no different than a combo and it took a bit of skill to actually pull off without letting them get away. It was fun on stages where you could do it forever, and a legitimate way to move a play from one side of a stage to the other.
I kind of wish that, given the time they had, they try to reinvent some of the final smashes...
I mean, there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't work in something more inspired for Yoshi, or call in an Arwing strike for Falco instead of giving him the fucking landmaster.
But even then, they essentially just reused all the other shit out of brawl as well, Falcon's doesn't even look different.
I dunno...I mean, it's whatever, but too copy paste for my tastes.
I don't know what else Yoshi could do. His FS is a combination of his Fireballs and his Wings when you swallow Koopa shells. Also, Falcon's FS is literally the only thing taken from his game.
Do people actually play with final smashes? They're pretty boring after the first few times, don't really feel satisfying to use, and completely ruin the pacing of a match. Even as a casual player I've never enjoyed them
All i'm saying is that I was hoping they didn't recycle so much for the sake of some new surprises.
Off the top of my head, the only new ones from returning characters I saw were ZSS and Rob.
Sheik is a stand alone now, does she really need Zelda's FS? Same with the chick from Fire Emblem essentially having Marth's.
Yes, but if you had ice climbers in the game you'd have to account for that giant map with dozens of enemies plus random events such as RESPAWING 15+ BULLET BILLS ON SCREEN and 4 pairs of ice climbers
It's the upper end that needs to be considered
He's still got them. But he can only throw one now and if he throws another afterwards, the previous banana disappears
Tripping only happens with bananas and a few other items, no random tripping
tripping is still in, but random tripping isn't
and diddy can only have 1 banana out at any time. plus glide toss isn't a thing anymore. he has better range and a ridiculous up b, but lost some mind game stuff.
all the characters have their animations redone, and most gained new attacks.
it's pre-e3 2013, hype for Smash 4 is high and you're posting in a character predictions thread
someone posts this fan roster and says
>hey guys these are my predictions, please rate
how do you respond
>and diddy can only have 1 banana out at any time. plus glide toss isn't a thing anymore. he has better range and a ridiculous up b, but lost some mind game stuff.
This upsets me.
Here's some of the things I would say:
>Yoshi being mixed in with the Mario characters.
>Dark Pit AND Palutena
>Four Fire Emblem reps.
>Ice Climbers cut.
But other than that, pretty good roster prediction, friend.
>that feel when my eternal main Kirby is more fun to play than ever
I don't know if it's any changes they made or if it's because I haven't really played Smash in years...
also trying to main Palutena cause she is hot but I really suck at playing slow as fuck characters... have to figure out how to use those...
>Denying that Smash has a competitive scene full of players who can and do play the game better than you ever could
>play the game better than I ever could
>shit their pants and start crying when you turn items on or play on a stage that has hazards
>shit their pants and start crying when you turn items on or play on a stage that has hazards
Get a load of this faggot!
yeah I'm totally looking forward to those man and also really looking forward to just playing with some bros from /v/.
But it's just not the same as local multiplayer with IRL friends...
I'm wondering how much I would get my ass kicked when playing people from /v/. I can beat level 9 CPU's but that's about it... never really played too much against human opponents and I don't really know about any technical stuff
I was just watching the GameXplain stream and they were fighting master core and when they got to the actual core they waited instead of attacking and they got destroyed by it. Anyone else know about this?
>telling someone to adapt when you can't do the same for items and stage hazards
I think it's similar to Ice Climber reason. I think When DDD throws a waddle dee/doo, the character can walk around the stage for bit similar to an AI imagine. Having alot out on the playing stage like have 4 DDD all throwing multiple Waddle Dee/doos probably too much for 3DS to handle, the same reason why having too many IC on stage could fuck the game.
I could be wrong as I don't know much about making games and it's capability, but this my guess base on various information shown.
I was watching a stream yesterday and the dude explained that if you wait too long to kill it it'll rise into the air and "get a kill on you"
Pretty neat but not sure why it's like that
It's because items and stage hazards are randomized.
In the tournament they had at E3 the zero suit samus guy just used her speed to grab the smash ball three times and blow everyone away.
Competitive smashers are still WAY better than the average player, just because tournies don't play with items doesn't mean they suddenly they become drooling babbies when items are on. Hell they could probably kill you without items while you're using items.
>Not maining Ness
What does it feel like to not enjoy Smash Bros?
So now that the dust has settled can we all agree that Smash 4 is a lame Brawl 2.0 defensive piece of shit?
That's probably why there's no random waddle dee/dos, no Big Gay Dance and no Za Warudo either. Probably also why there's no changing characters like Samus/ZSS, Zelda/Sheik or Red.
>They've Buffed The Puff
Fuck yes. Can't wait to play as the little puff & purr again.
I don't know. I'd only make the conclusion after having played the game with the entire roster for myself first before assuming anything. Plus, we should see if the WiiU version has any changes to it if it exists.
It looks like it plays like 64 2.0 more than anything at the moment.
put some effort into it next time
I hate how autistic this nigger looks.
And it's completely intentional since it has a name in Smash 4.
You can potentially lower or increase your knockback while keeping the same hitstun, so proper "vectoring" will make combos useless.
the clawshot requires pinpoint accuracy and it really should only be used to grab people from a distance.
jump jump up b is the best way to recover for link due to the fact that it also protects link with a flurry of sword slashes while he recovers. Link's simple. keep it simple with him, don't be fancy in a real match until you've got some serious practice.
Do you know why it was a stage control attack? Because it was a shit recovery.
He is much better with his new recover, especially since this new Smash has much more off-stage play.
If you get hit with a straight vertical attack, you can hold down to lower it's knockback, or hold up to increase the knockback.
Because it's been discovered just now.
In conclusion, this is absolutely one of the biggest mechanical changes in Smash 4 in the context of competitive play. Throws that would normally combo well into the 80s against many characters such as Sheik's Dthrow, Rob's Dthrow, etc. become purely positional throws quite early in a stock if you hold upward. Moves that would otherwise kill you off the top, don't. If for some reason you'd like to die earlier off the top, this is the first smash game to allow you to do so.
>does not function similarly at all to Directional Influence
>trying to "DI" as one would in a previous smash game does literally nothing to help you live
>This is mechanically different from Direction Influence entirely
It's still pretty similar to how you use DI. Why do these people keep saying that it's ENTIRELY different? And that it's LITERALLY nothing like DI?
And if I have to hear people actually call this "vectoring" then I will cringe every time.
It's mechanically different, which it is. The reason why you see combos happening right now is because people are trying to "DI" like the old games, when it doesn't actually exist. The concept is similar to DI, but how it actually works is completely different.
