To work, Ridley as already shown in this thread would have to be at least as large as Bowser, and that's still a fucking terrible rendition of the character. AND his wings, tail, limbs etc all need to animate outwards. His hitbox would be absolutely fucked and considering Bowser is already almost too large to fit under some platforms, a Ridley model with outward extending limbs would be fucked.

So to do proper justice to the character, it's only feasible if you make him significantly larger than the rest of the roster. At which point he's nonviable. Making the character a boss works so much better, but of course Ridleyfags don't actually give a shit about the Metroid series' representation and just want to circlejerk.

Ridley was small in Metroid because hardware restrictions put a limit on the size of each animated sprite. As the power of Nintendo's consoles increased, they were able to portray Ridley as his designers intended.

If you think Metroid and Mario are at all comparable in tone then you're not worth arguing with. It's implied that Bowser has size-shifting powers, but that doesn't even matter because Mario canon is either non-existent or so complex that no human could ever understand it. Bowser is also quite chunky, so he looks better scaled down. Ridley's limbs look like brittle spaghetti when you scale him down to Samus's size. Even if you somehow made it look right, he'd still have long, skinny limbs and huge wings, giving him a massive range of attack on top of his Bowser-level size. Either that, or he'd keep his limbs folded close to his body and waddle around like a limp-wristed retard, half-heartedly slapping at his foes. Ridley also has enormous wings and moves by flying, in a game where the objective is to remain standing on a platform without falling off. It's not quite the same as Pit and Kirby, who move primarily by running, with flying as a temporary option. Ridley flies gracefully, and stumbles around awkwardly on land. Destroying his wings is Samus's tactic for greatly weakening him. Do you even want Ridley to be portrayed in his weakest form?

Do you know exactly WHY Metroid villains do not speak, and only very rarely emote? It's because Metroid is about recreating a sense of alien isolation. One of the main inspirations for the series was Alien, in the first place.

Metroid does not need a villain rep because Samus is the ONLY CHARACTER that matters. NOBODY else is supposed to have Player Agency. That's a lot of the reason why Nintendo ignores Prime, they don't see it as creatively on the right track. I disagree with them on that, but it's a pretty fucking basic staple of the series that Ridley, Mother Brain, Kraid, etc. are all just obstacles for Samus to fight against, NOT characters.

Clipping and animation problems anon, clipping and animation problems. Ridley's sprite/model is big and lanky and fucked up with limbs and wings jutting out at every angle. When those limbs and wings and tails and knobbly bits don't have ROOM to jut out everywhere, they start clipping into fucking everything.

And then when you start making him walk/run/fly the problems becomes exponentially worse.

Compared to a basic blocky model like Bowser's, whose limbs all go to one point and then stop and who isn't crinkled up like tinfoil, it would be MUCH more difficult to make a working Ridley model.

Which isn't to say it literally cannot be done - although nobody has ever created a model that WORKS - but it drives home the point that Ridley works best, both thematically and from a design view, as a bigass Dragon boss for Samus et al to fight as he flies around wreaking havoc, not a scrawny lizard suffering from scoliosis.
