It was included in a promotion for 5 fairly recent series from Forward done by Animate's yuri division. Frankly I felt like Itsuka Watashi wa Kimi o Uragiru was an odd one out since the other 4 are far less yuri.

It's mostly ecchi, and the only yuri is that page I posted previously. Which is a shame because the female characters are really hot like this girl that drives a Countach, and there's a gothic lolita dominatrix that I think has a crush on Reina. It's a fun read if you like cute girls and cars, but the RS volumes are untranslated and the series has been canceled.

Yuri doujins aside, I would not watch Aikatsu. Watched one episode and then I dropped it.

You're loss. If you've only watched one episode you're have no legitimacy to try to talk others out of watching the anime.
For anyone considering watching Aikatsu and/or Aikatsu Stars ignore the people are trying to influence you that have seen little to none of the show(s). Having watched all episodes to date I can tell you there is no het at all to worry about. Some of the song/dance can be a bit repetitive (sometimes there are flaws - like failed appeals - hidden in the songs/dances noticeable to those watching closely), and you can always skip some of those songs and dances if they don't appeal to you, or feel repetitive.
Both shows are filled with yuri (especially the original and movies).

Speaking only for myself, I also like the differences in physicality and emotion involved between two girls in sexual situations compared to a heterosexual union. Koyume actually has the obligatory explicit Kirara CGDCT crush on Tsubasa and Tsubasa is dense about it. However, she's pretty touchy-feely and rooms with Kaosu so there's some moments between those two as well.

Rukki really likes cute things and likes Kaosu a lot as a result, though her fondness isn't explicitly romantic like Koyume's for Tsubasa. On Kaosu's end, she admires Rukki and has kind of implied that Rukki was her type because a lot of the anime figures she collects resembles Rukki and she makes a habit of looking up their skirts. Also, despite Tsubasa and Rukki rooming together, there doesn't seem to be much subtext between the two of them so if everyone were to be paired up, it would be across different rooms.

I've watched 25 episodes of the OG and I think 13 or 14 of Stars. It was basically the same shit every episode. They take a "quest" and then finish it every time. Ocassionally there will be some arbitrary challenge they have to overcome but there's never any doubt they will succeed and at least in the time I watched it they never had to face anyone who was better than them.

I like the characters in Stars a lot more than the one-note characters in OG, and the designs are a lot more varied and appealing. But it's literally the exact. same. fucking. song every episode. If I recall they even reused the ED song in one episode.

I actually have a theory about why Aikatsu is so unappealing. As someone who has played a fair number of MMOs I see each episode that the characters are just grinding "idol xp" and aren't developing in any meaningful way. Most of the challenges the character face seem focused around them getting a new costume card, which to me seems like a very cynical way of advertising microtransactions.

It would be like if the Granblue Fantasy anime had an episode that featured a very popular character and then temporarily increased the odds of drawing that character in the gatcha.

I completely disagree. I was reluctant to start watching Aikatsu as I had previously dismissed it as idolshit. I was expecting a shallow, vapid and inane plot with paper thin characters. I was wrong. There is character development. The main three girls clearly change over the first series. In the first part of the series Ichigo is uncertain and suffers from self doubt. As the story progresses she gains more confidence and learns more about being an idol.

Obviously this is part of it, it's just like any other anime made to advertise a card game and there are other examples that are far more cynical.
