And even if this wasn't the case, any show with male characters will devote (often intolerable amounts of) time on them. Worth remembering is that MTK Carat has done het series and some of those have been animated, as mentioned before.

tl;dr no, they don't have to be het. It's still a major red flag until some moon speakers declare it safe or irredeemable, but evidence right now points towards the latter

What you're seeing isn't that men and women have to go together because fuck yuri, its that when you make something without romantic implications (see any story not a romance) people like to pair things. And unless you're a yuri fanatic 99% of relationships are het. So it just naturally makes sense to pair the men and women unless you're going for yuri, which those stories often aren't.
Yurifans just have a bad habit of wanting everything to be yuri and shipping things on their own, then when it turns out the writer had no intentions of it being yuri they get angry.

I've recently finished Takako Shimura's Musume no Iede. While most of the stories are het the manga has two yuri couples.
Couple A appears only in chapter 10 (volume 2).
Couple B is more fleshed out and has 2 chapters: 23 (volume 4) and 26 (volume 5). One of the girls appeared few times before the aforementioned chapters but I think its pretty self-explanatory and can be read without advance introduction. Also chapter 30 (volume 5) tells a story of the other girl until their meeting.

Couple A's story is pretty underwhelming but B's was a huge step above anything else in that manga. Shimura actually wrote a likeable lesbian character for once and romantic progression felt neutral.

The manga as whole is episodic and mostly focuses on romantic relationships and kids struggles to become adults. Some of the stories were good but mostly were just boring or downright shit. But maybe it's just me since I've never liked Shimura's writing style.

Anyway, if you deprived on Shimura's art style I'd recommend reading the 4 yuri chapters and call it a day.

In the anime at least, the first one the producer was just that, a producer. Miki was the only one that really showed romantic feelings and there was plenty of subtext for us to go with. But most importantly the plot was based entirely around the girls and their relationships/goals.
In the CG the producer was much closer to the girls and was one of the main plot producers for the anime.

I felt like both producers had the exact same role. The problem comes from the fact that CG's characters didn't have plot arcs, so most of it was focused solely on the idol side of the show. The girls were still closer between themselves than with the producer, but since there wasn't a big conflict, it was hard to see.

The Producer is the eponymous Idolm@ster, and I'm told Namco even refers to the fans who show up to its events as "producers", so having the CG anime have a Producer is only to be expected. Then we have the conversations with the CG idols, some of which outright state that the Producer is a guy (most notably Tokiko's).

As for BGHS, the guy is simply a teacher summoned to that school, so there'd be less justification to include him in the anime. Still, it's known from the start that said teacher is a guy, so I'd keep my fingers crossed if I were you.
