The dislike between Widow and Ana seem to run deeper than Widow's assassination of Gerard, and Ana doesn't seem at all interested in seeing Widow as anything but a villain, rather than the victim we know she is. Granted the same could be said for Widowtracer, for instance, but Ana always came off as a bit darker than Tracer, and a redemption arc doesn't really feel like it fits with Ana/Widow like it does with Widowtracer, and that's pretty much the core of any pairing that involves Widow.

I think this might be a specifically written flaw in Ana's commentary on Widowmaker. In Legacy, she immediately assumed Amelie murdered Gerard, and IG she says her line to Widow about Gerard, so it does seem like Ana doesn't really care to look past the whole Talon thing and is happy to assume Amelie was a sleeper all along.

In anon's defense, Overwatch characters are totally empty slates and none of the "lore" is particularly consistent or meaningful, so if you weren't one of the suckers spreading the "controversy" that helps Blizzard advertise their game, then you wouldn't know that Tracer is gay.

Every character in that game could be gay for as much difference as it would make to anything. One character's "lore" is that her color palette is boring because she's cold.

I don't know if the gaming websites keep people informed too well either. They're ads for video games usually.

I mean I caught it. I saw it on /v/, but it was only there for a little while, so if you were busy in that time frame, and you don't keep up with Blizzard's "lore" updates because they're insipid, then how would you know? Most of the character bios are already kind of dumb.

It's like finding out Cold Donut Steel is a lesbian, except in this case it's given all sorts of legitimacy because even though Cold Donut Steel has this tragic badass backstory and can't remove her time machine that Gorilla Grodd gave her, it's made by a multi-million dollar company that put it on the TV to sell you things.

It is totally forgivable to not know Donut Steel was gay this entire time. Donut Steel has enough completely inconsequential background info about her already, and people were drawing her tongue-fucking other females regardless.

Hey. In my case, I was aware of the comic but didn't read it. I only heard Tracer was gay. I haven't cared about Blizzard's writing since Wings of Liberty came out. Typically I find everything they write only makes me angry because I'm type of person who gets aggravated when I can't make a logical connections between two statements.

e.g. "Gee Tychus, even though Kerrigan turned into a human devouring bug monster four years ago and I swore an oath of bloody vengeance on her when she murdered by best alien friend, I still feel completely in love with her and hope we can work things out."

If I want to enjoy Blizzard games these days I have to avoid reading anything they write. The minute I find out too much about their "stories" I hate everything I'm facilitating.

Back in the nineties they had that style that was prominent for the time. Very pulpy, very rad. Like a comic book, which isn't the pinnacle of story-telling, but at least it was all internally consistent. They had themes and characters had reasons. That's not really the case for anything they produce anymore, and it's way less than what a lot of companies try to do with the resources they have today.
