Man, I wish I already knew how to draw somewhat decently back in the heyday of /frz/.

It was better in the beginning but after awhile the author got caught up in doing their own thing and it became less related to anything to do with Frozen (and by extension Anna and Elsa) and more with the original universe the author was creating. That's also the problem I had with Tempest. You can tell when authors are basically just borrowing characters and other stuff from source material and using them to flesh out their original fic ideas

Tbh, you could say that about most AU's. The most important thing for me is whether or not their personalities are "right". By that I mean, is what they're doing something that their established characters would feasibly be doing (assuming they aren't limited by being in a Disney movie). And in my opinion, Stolen Ice stays along those lines fairly well. So does r9keis, even if it does have some moments where it goes of the rails.

I'd say the biggest offender of all time was that shitty highschool au "Arendelle High". Holy shit that was trash. It took me weeks to wash the taste of that out of my mouth.

Tempest was... a story that existed. It started out well, but got very "wanky wanky word word" about half way in if you know what I mean.

Kaiser tried to write something somewhat profound with lots of meaning and stuff, but a lot of it fell flat and detracted from the story. Tempest ended up being much less Frozen fanfiction that it was original fiction.

Granted, that's a criticism that can be directed at a lot of fics, but I believe it's particularly prevalent in Tempest. You could probably find a much better analysis on like Tumblr or something.

Did you read Min Soster Bursdagskake? The cake fic is truly a work of art. Freeze Out by forkanna is also really good, although it is unfinished. A Formal Arrangement is incredible if you haven't already read it. Also, "You Are" is worth a read. Granted, it reads like it was wirtten while the author was high as fuck, but that's because that is literally what happened.

Check out "even a flightless bird has its uses" and "And I Saw the Beast Upon a Cold World". "Watching Snowflakes", "On the North Winds" and "Faal Od Vahdin ahrk fin Dovahkiin" are all good as are "Queens", "The Queens Mercy", and "Searching for a Perfect Day".
