Angst is fine, I remember there was some kind of argument about it, but nothing that drastic to hold a grudge. If anything I remember people going batshit about D.Va/Mercy greentexts in the past.
I'm fully on board with Talon Tracer corrupting/abusing Whomily, but I don't think we'll see that. The Talon Tracer stuff came mostly from Korea and they collectively decided to not pay attention to Emily's existence, save for like a few pics the first day which focused on Widow anyway.

I've been working on an RPGMaker Overwatch fangame and would love some feedback if anyone have a couple of minutes to burn. It's really sparse in terms of content (mostly just 2-3 scenes and some interactions) but I'd like some suggestions/ideas on how to proceed.

Thinking about it, I wonder who else from the old OW knew Amelie prior to the whole brainwashing thing. Founders might have, considering Gerard was so important Talon had to brainwash a civilian into killing him specifically. Mercy knew Ana, so she also could've met Amelie. I think McCree has a line that hints at him also meeting Widow before, but I might be wrong.

It might make sense if we ever get a definitive timeline with concrete dates. As it stands, Amelie seems to have been around the OW crew enough for not only Ana to know her on site though a scope, but also to have developed an opinion of her. And this was before Ana's "death", which took place an unknown amount of time before the Swiss HQ went kablooey. Tracer would have been around 20-21 years old when shit hit the fan, and only a little bit younger when the Slipstream happened. It leaves a very small window for Amelie/Tracer interaction.

I like what you have so far! The gym scene is cute. Some kind of scene where Pharah and Mercy get into a combat situation together and then acknowledge what a good team they make could be nice - you don't even necessarily have to use the acutal RPGMaker combat if you don't want to. In general, having some kind of story in mind, i.e. buildup-conflict-resolution, would probably help you think of directions you could go.

Typo from Ana's first dialogue in the bar: "Brings join to these old bones"

Also... any chance there is a darker black that could be used for Pharah's hair? At first glance the sprite looked more like Ana to me.

All in all I hope you carry on with it, and I'll definitely play more as it gets updated!

Pretty much my point, yeah. I'm just ballparking based on when the Petras Act was established and how old Tracer is now.

As for Ana, considering how important a role Widowmaker played in Legacy and how Ana went on and on about her team and how she is supposed to protect them, my guess is that she may have trained Gerard, and he might have been a member of her strike team before moving on to his own (the anti-Talon ops that got him killed).

He might say it for Sombra as well, but I don't go against many Sombra's so I can't say for sure. His other disapproving line he shares with Reaper, which is "Never liked you much". He says it when you kill Torb/Mei, and I know I've heard it on others.

It's possible, but the only indications of who Amelie was that we have right now come from Ana, and she's rather biased, to put it mildly, though not without reason. Getting shot in the eye has a tendency to color your perception of the shooter to say the least. Tracer's "Why would you do this" in Alive is too ambiguous to pull anything from, she could be asking because she knew Amelie before or simply because she can't comprehend why someone would want to kill Mondatta. Everyone else uses impersonal terms when addressing Widow if they're against her. I think Ana's the only one to bring up her past at all.

Really, the core issue is that we don't know anything about Widow outside of the super-assassin thing, and we don't know jack shit about Amelie. People like to fill in her past with being trained by Ana or helping Overwatch in some other capacity because otherwise she's just a generic wife character who got put through the evil version of a super soldier program. The only speculation you can entertain about her is that she clearly wasn't as capable as Gerard was given that Talon managed to nab her.

I don't think it's just bias after being shot, let's not forget how "she must have killed him!" was the first thought Ana had after seeing Amelie alive. I'd say that's a weird reaction towards someone if she didn't think Amelie was capable of it beforehand.
And similarly, when talking to her in spawn room isn't it weird how she takes Widow's actions at face value without even trying to question them? Her being like "He was a fool to love someone like /you/" instead of "but Amelie why would such a nice girl murder her husband and join a terrorist organization?" seems like for her Amelie being a terrorist is totally in character.
Which btw is really pissing me off, I want at least one person to notice and acknowledge she's been kidnapped and turned and isn't just a willing villain like everyone assume she is. Is that supposed to be saved for some bigger revelation? Is really no one suspecting her being kidnapped by Talon, found, ending up killing Gerard and then turning up months later blue and working for Talon suspicious? The fuck?

As for Tracer, the "why would you do this" isn't the most interesting part to me, if anything is hinting that Tracer knew her before it's the wordless exchange of emotion after that.

No one seems to realize that she's been brainwashed/conditioned at least. Now, this could be because the rest of Overwatch is even more in the dark about what happened to her, which I think is most likely, given that Ana's narration in the comic says that she was kidnapped following Gerard's murder (Why she doesn't mention that she was also kidnapped BEFORE the murder is rather odd, though perhaps that wasn't common knowledge), then says that everyone assumed she was dead, and from that decides that since Amelie is both alive and killing her team, she must have been the one who killed Gerard as well. Now that I'm actually going through it I'm kind of surprised NO ONE assumes she isn't acting of her own free will.

Alternatively, the others could be assuming she was bad to begin with because most of them didn't know her, or because the ones that did know her would not find it terribly out of character for her to murder her spouse and join his worst enemies. That last option seems... unlikely, to me. Ana and Gerard may very well have been close, or she may have simply considered him part of her Overwatch "family".

Well, to be fair, if you're talking about Emily it's to be expected that some previously speculated ideas will be altered or made impossible as Blizzard decides to flesh out their characters. One of the reasons OW is real popular with shippers is because most of the people in it have fill in the blank pasts and personalities right now so you can headcanon all kinds of things if you want to. People will get upset as Blizzard fills in those blanks themselves, but it's part of the process. I do wish it was a better planned part of the process, but what can you do.

The timeline nonsense I fully agree with you on, and it's why I lamented their lack of proper planning. The accelerator suddenly working within a certain range of Tracer was a retcon but what I'd consider one of the more sensible ones, since that device as is would be a huge pain in the ass if she couldn't remove it and the design didn't make much sense for something of that nature.

I meant how for example half of the initially released art makes no sense given timeline (like Tracer being featured together with visibly younger versions of the OW team during various events), characters appearing where they never been there in the first place (like Pharah iirc appears in the Cinematic Trailer as one of the heroes in the museum presentation despite her never being in Overwatch), or how they canned an entire origin comic that was almost finished because they decided to rewrite the omnic crisis story at the last minute.

As for Emily, I don't see what her existence does to flesh out Tracer, she's nothing more than a tool to show Tracer likes to eat pussy, which they could have done without her perfectly well.
And I mean sure, not all headcanons people have can come true but let's not act like Emily isn't an asspull and it wasn't totally unnecessary to cockblock the shippers with a random OC

Compare that to how they treat for example Roadrat shippers. Initially Hog was supposed to hate Junkrat, but now they backtracked on that with recording a friendlier version of one of their interactions, they commissioned an art of them giving each other presents and put it on the official twitter, gave them sprays where they fistbump each other, the entire Halloween event was basically "Junkrat loves Hog so much" together with a menu screen of him looking at him lovingly. And in the Xmas comic they went to amusement park together.
They similarly saw people like McHanzo and decided to throw some bones towards the shippers.
Now compare that to how Chu pushes Gency and now the WT cockblock. Makes it seem like /u/ shippers shat in his cereal so he decided to fuck them over at every opportunity.

The artwork is fucked because they didn't have a coherent world to start with and they kept building on that for a while before apparently deciding recently that they really should get around to getting their timeline straight. I don't like it, you're right about all the issues you mentioned, but I am hopeful they'll at least be more consistent going forward.

As for Roadrat, I agree they seem to altering their initial hired gun/hated escort relationship in response to fan demand, but I'm not sure that has anything to do shipping. It plays well to shippers, sure, but I think they wanted a friendlier dynamic anyway since those two are supposed to be the psychotic comedy relief with tragic backstories.

I don't know shit about McHanzo beyond the fact it's the most popular yaoi ship by a disgustingly large margin. We'll see if they actually put that new look for Hanzo in the game at some point.

Emily was an asspull, no argument there. We've argued enough about how Tracer's sexuality could've/would've/should've been revealed, Emily is how they chose to do it. Fine. Whatever. We'll see if they bother developing her more or not. I personally think they wrote themselves into a nasty corner because both options will piss significant amounts of people off but hey, their call.

I'm just going to say it, I don't hate Chu. I think he seriously fucked up by publicly outing himself as preferring a particular ship though. I'm not saying that the actual lore writers are forbidden from having preferences, but coming out and publicly supporting one ship over another never ends well. Worse, he prefers the one ship with nasty self-insert overtones, which opens him up to vicious criticism even if he isn't supporting it for that reason (Unlikely, but I try to be fair). I don't, however, believe he came up with Emily and got the rest of the staff to sign off on it purely as a "Fuck /u/" to WidowTracer shippers. WT was a long shot to begin with, let's be real here.

I don't know what was his reasoning for adding Lamemily, but the thing about WidowTracer people seem to forget is that unlike McHanzo and Pharmercy the ship didn't came out of nowhere. Like sure, the Cinematic Trailer was enough for people to start shipping them and that was just a couple of innocent interactions, but then they released Alive and decided to pack it with a shitload of sexual tension. I know a lot of people who ship them only got into the game because of a basically a huge bait on Blizzard's own creation.
Was it a long shot? Well, shippers aside, if you have random clueless people watching a cinematic and making forum threads titled "were Widowmaker and Tracer lovers in the past?" or articles written wondering if it's a beginning of a romance, then evidently it wasn't such a long shot for people to pick up on the chemistry and imagine them actually together.
Hell, after the Emily reveal even goddamn The Washington Post noted how it's weird why Tracer's love life isn't linked to Widow given their dynamic.
I mean if so many different people assumed something clearly there must have been some kind of a reason, right?
Personally, them actually being canon would be nice, but I wasn't expecting anything like that anytime soon, so if they just let them flirt like usual for the next X amount of time that would be all i could ask for.
Mind you, i don't think Emily means the end of possibilities for Tracer to end up with someone else like some do, but yeah, it sours the whole thing a bit, can't hide that.

Mercy presents a different problem than Tracer does though. Tracer only had popular /u/ ships. I'm sure she has/had het ships but they were tiny comparatively. Mercy has both a prominent het ship and a prominent /u/ ship, outside of her informal designation as the shipping bicycle. One of those groups is going to be disappointed, and people here are worried it's going to be us because Gency is actually getting the buildup we wanted Tracer to get. If they put out a 10 page comic tomorrow about Genji and Mercy going on a date, the one reaction we wouldn't have is surprise.

Concerning WT, a lot of people also downplayed the fact they spent most of "Alive" trying to kill each other. Tracer has no reason to suspect Widow could survive her Pulse bomb when she hurled it at her, and Widow would've killed Tracer with her shot that got Modatta if she hadn't recalled out of the way. Widow also only taunts Tracer when she's either been neutralized or otherwise at a significant disadvantage. I agree with you regarding the idea that most people didn't want full confirmation yet, but now they have this giant STOP sign to deal with in the form of a cute if one-dimensional (so far) redhead. Emily is a big issue for WT fans, and even if you ignore her you have to acknowledge that now there's something you have to ignore in the first place, and that other people will be making a big point about NOT ignoring her, and now you have to deal with them too.

Assuming they'll "unbad" Widow at some point is a crucial part of WidowTracer, Talon Tracer business aside, but we'll have to wait and see on that; though Blizzard has a long track record of doing similar things, that was under Metzen's watch, and he's gone now.

I guess I just think that the potential between them was present but over-exaggerated, and Blizzard ultimately decided to go a different way with Tracer in the form of Emily and Widow in that they keep portraying her having lingering feelings of some kind for Gerard, and that WidowTracer fans are displeased with the former far more than the latter. But I thank you for taking the time to discuss this with me, because it helped me get my thoughts on the subject more in order.
