I think because of several reasons, honestly.

First, the more uncomfortable one would be that it bodes of a sense that Japan will still occasionally not take homosexuality seriously. That is, they don't confirm it because they think it would be bad to, or they may even be afraid to. And that sort of apprehension and almost backwards way of thinking is something that people don't like to attach to a medium they enjoy.

But also, whether it's het, lez or gay, I think everyone just wants to see a couple kiss before their happily ever after. It's culminating and cathartic. Even if we know they're going to be together forever, there's still no equivalent to that sign of their affection for each other.

Just finished it, and when Izetta was dispersing the magic in space all I could think about was a sequel where that ray hit some alien world and now they're gonna destroy Earth because they hit their planet.

All in all, a pretty decent anime. Would've been nice to see what happened to the nuclear bomb though. It's not like it could've fallen in the sea because it's one large landmass so something else wound up wiped out. I'm the same, I really liked the show's setting and I find WW2 mystery and occult stuff to be fascinating. But apart from that the show was fairly average to me, the military side of things was done badly as it usually is and the plot felt rushed and narrowed down. So it surprised me all the more how much I wanted to see them together and happy, their relationship ended up being the only thing I loved about the show. I think it would be easier to move on if the ending had given us more information, it was a pretty rushed epilogue in my opinion.
