Try getting Fiction recs over at the "/u/ meets /lit/" thread in one of the pages here? You won't find a lot of what you are looking for in manga. One solution is to go to dynasty scans and search for these tags "Yuri" then "Adult life". One recommendation I can think of is "Dear my Teacher". Just search for it. Must say I'm surprised at the character growth of Chiyo the most. When she first appeared in chapter 1, I thought she's just a throw-away character that is used to introduce Kuroko's lesbianism and promiscuousity. Then it appeared that she's kind of a recurrent fuckbuddy and an ATM: providing the MC with sex, yakuza connection and facilities. Then BAM, Chiyo is apparently a serious girlfriend with a real personality (pic related). Then this chapter gives her even more development, and that Kuroko does hold her in high regards.

I really love the way Murcielago established Chiyo: from a seemingly nobody, to an important character that is the MC's main love interest (a role that conventionally would belong to Hinako, with the way the first 3 volumes go). I don't think I've seen this kind of "twist" before. It's such a surprise, yet didn't feel like out of nowhere/asspull thanks to the pacing and interesting storytelling.

I love violence and gore and badass female characters, I don't even mind if they die, but the rushed violence, lame backstories, boring fights feel really dumb. I think the author failed because they tried too hard to throw intestines and brains on the screen without actual substance behind it. A compelling story. A good strategy for a fight. Where are those?

Besides Katja and her harem, there is still another pairing. Still, the series knows its shamelessness and has never present itself as a yuri series, so people reading it for the yuri should know what they re in for. The plot was ok until MC turns full edgelord though.

I'm considering dropping it since no matter how hot Katja s scenes are, I can never fully dig polyamory and the edgelord has been more and more annoying.

Last I checked, Katja doesn't really have a "harem" the way edgelord does. She'll grab the nearest convenient pair of tits for a soma recharge, but from what I can tell none of those girls really hang on her like Hana does unless that's changed.

I think the anime had an OVA where Ayame and Lulu are there, but I don't know Ayame even shows up again after the VR school arc, and I think Lulu shows up again maybe once. Katja and Hana do have a threeway with Miyuri and again with another girl in a later chapter.

UPDATE ON TL PROGRESS: We're getting a band of /yys/ members together so we can finally get the translation effort moving along properly.

We have raws through volume 6 and the Story/Fan books. I also personally own physical copies of all of the books, all six BD volumes+BD BOX, and all of the CDs.

We have a new translator, Mittens, who's more proficient with JP than I am and works fast, but we need more. I'd especially love to find someone who can type up Japanese transcripts of episode commentaries and drama CDs, so those can be translated and subtitled. (I'm a proficient video editor, so these would be completed QUICKLY once TL is done.) We are also in serious need of cleaners who can do quality work, as well as typesetters if we find the right people. If you want to help, there's no commitment. Among them there's a yuri adult couple, chapters 4 and 5 are focused on them and how they have dealt and still deal with coming out.

Shimanami Tasogare runs in Hibana. That's one of those alternative "seinen" magazine that target an general adult audience (not just men, like the "seinen" denomination might imply, but both genders). It's a very broad audience, so this sort of magazines publishes lots of different sort of manga. That's why it's natural their lineup would often include one or two works that deal with homosexuality (not yuri or BL, but homosexuality).

So it's probably a matter of what the editor thinks their target audience want to read.
