Hey people. I'm early so please do your best when I ask don't spoil.
Is the book worth reading? Actually? I have barely started season 2 and while I love the show, I feel like going from show to book is a bit of a misstep. Twin Peaks to me always was a visual and while I know Frost cowrote the show I am just unsure of having to read about this fucked up world without visuals.
Anyways good book? Second book coming out soon too right?

Through the entirety of The Return we are shown scenes from both the original timeline (OT, where Laura died) and new timeline (NT, where Cooper saved Laura), intercut with one another. In the OT, Audrey is in a coma, Richard Horne was born, Chinese drugs are driving kids mad, James plays a live set in the Roadhouse, child zombies etc - all sorts of horrible things, and radiation ("black fire") is leaking out of lodge portals, causing Harry Truman, Log Ladt, and Beverly's husband to get leukemia.

>He was… different. The way it was described to me, he’s just a little harder. So it was another variation, sort of a subtle variation obviously, compared to the other two, but a subtle variation of Cooper. And so that was that last hour, Watching him navigate that.

I'm willing to bet those who are praising this mess of a season would be singing a different tune if this was the work of another and Lynch hadn't returned. But because it's Lynch suddenly its genious and he just changed the landscape of T.V. *gag*

"Lynch is saying FUCK YOU to narrative and coherency! He's so awesome!" Uh ok...you have fun with that bullshit. Hundreds of characters introduced only to fade out of existence along with whatever plotlines they may have had. 18 hours for what exactly? For Lucy and some random idiot with a green glove to save the day while Cooper only comes back to be used as a vehicle for a possible season 4? Huh?

Lynch was on coke when he wrote this drivel. No explanation.

>>87391243

The book doesn't explain anything and muddies shit up even further. Lynch himself didn't read it, but ultimately Episode 18 confirms the book's retcons, just like Frost promised.

None of the clues provided work right now, even the white pony Troy one.

What a sloppy season. So many unneeded plotlines and characters that were just dropped for no reason. Dead ends. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. So much potential down the drain. Someone just edit all the best moments into a montage for me and I'll be fine with that. No way do I see myself watching these episodes again.

There's a lot of stuff I did like about the season. I loved the graphic violence and darker tone and thought several of the newbies had potential (Becky, Richard, Red) but ultimately every one was basically pointless. I'm not even going to talk about the abortion that was Audrey . Audrey is raped by an evil doppelganger of Cooper and gives birth to a psycho kid but instead of delving deep into that- Audrey is turned into some confused nagging old shrew who only shows up to dance and is never seen again?

Maybe Showtime should've left this at 9 episodes as originally planned. Or maybe they should've just left it alone. Embarrassing.

So if the whole thing was a dream then that says a lot about dreams I guess.

Last night I had a dream that I was watching some Jurassic Park movie that doesn't exist, then Laura Dern showed up from time to time and then there was this ad for a Netflix (or something like it but the UI was based on Netflix) original that happened to be Twin Peaks Season 4 and it had Diane on the front of it. Then I was talking to some people showing them this stream service and convincing them to watch The X-Files, and then I ended up watching an "episode," it happened to be "Young At Heart" but it was this weird feature-length film version and here's how that went:

>Mulder and Scully investigate something in a sewer because a monster attacks someone (?)
>there's a guy with a pentagram tattoo on his palm
>later, M and S are back at this FBI place (looks like a regular house) and they're mad at each other, one of them says "fuck" and M shoves S against the wall or through a door (?)
>M is told to look at the evidence that includes three suspect alligators in these tanks
>M determines that it couldn't have been an alligator because one was blind, the other had something wrong with it, nothing said about the third alligator
>office stuff I don't remember, talking scenes
>cafeteria scene
>M and S are sitting together
>an FBI agent goes through a room that leads to the stairs to the roof
>something happens to him, disappears I think (?)
>the villain appears but no one knows it's him
>suddenly, I'm in control of him and I just look at different girls who get kinda freaked (I know he has cataract eyes like the doppelgangers in the Black Lodge so that's why I look at them?)
>back to spectator
>something alerts M and S to go through the room to the stairs (?)
>villain goes to lobby (?)
>I check the time, we're at the 98 minute mark
>M runs down to the lobby, the lady tells him she saw his doppelganger leave
>says he had a tattoo of a swastika on his hand and cataracts, M knows who it is

SARAH IS NOT JUDY FOR FUCKS SAKE.

This has to stop. Judy is not like Bob, she's a "force" she is what Bob originally was. It is the showrunners reclaiming the concept of Bob after having to use him as a literal demon entity in TR. The Frogmoth is not Judy, how does that make any sense? The frogmoth has the nose of The Jumping Man and we saw that in Sarah when she took her face off.

The portal they step through when they go meet Jeffries, the room with the wallpaper, this the home of the Palmer's. It is the dream Laura had in the movie, she sees herself in a painting and steps into it, it's their home but a twisted version of it.

When we enter that place, both times in The Return, we see The Jumping Man, this is Sarah in her home, her grief and pain manifested through the intense turmoil we see in The Jumping Man, her face is literally on him for fucks sake, could it be more clear than that?

If Bob is the spirit that steals garmonbozia, and The Arm is the one consumes it, then The Jumping Man is the spirit that takes on the emotional turmoil of the victims they leave behind. It's as if he's stuck playing over the events of her death, in a constant state of total despair.

>>

Annie was probably manufactured by Windom to lure him into the lodge. She just appears out of nowhere as a character, her conversations with Cooper sound weird as fuck, and she exists as a lodge spirit in FWWM. When the doppelganger comes out, he becomes aware of this (hence why he hits his face in the mirror and laughs crazily - he finds it ridiculous that he ran into the lodge to save her).

Coop's mistake is forgetting his love in favor of a new goal.

>He never catches Windom Earle after his first love is dead and moves on to the Blue Rose cases.
>He never returns to find out how's Annie and Harry, utterly obsessed with his quest to kill BOB and find Laura.
>He never returns to Janey-E and sends a tulpa in his stead.
>As soon as he crosses with Diane to the new reality, he doesn't attempt to find her again and help her remember the previous identity, seeking out Laura instead.

Cooper treated love as an instrument, which was his mistake. Which is why he sees THREE Cowboys when trying to rescue yet another damsel. He discards love as soon as he fulfills his goals in the search for Laura. He never asks about Annie or Harry because they are irrelevant to his quest now.

>WHAT YEAR IS THIS?

Why did Lynch write Coop to be a total fucking idiot? He seemed to have no idea why Richard was written on the letter, when he JUST used the memory of the Fireman saying "430" to him to reach the other world. And then he travels halfway across the country with absolutely no idea what he was actually doing. He realizes at the last minute that it isn't a different time, it's a different world, and he monumentally fucked up.

What a putz.

There is nothing wrong with BOB being killed off easily. This is happened to every Twin Peaks villain as soon as the greater threat is introduced.

You might as well ask why Mister Eddie's threats in Lost Highway never go anywhere and Fred just beats the shit out of him as soon as he is "in tune" with Mystery Man and becomes the true villain himself... Which kinda makes me think that Cooper may end up becoming the same villain, as his efforts as a lodge-traveling "magician" only make things worse.

I've been digesting my thoughts on The Return, here's what I think
The series feels less like a television series and more like we're checking in on this world after a long time of being away. Things are happening, some of which feels like we're joining in the middle of, like Steven & Becky. A lot of what is going on feels like business as usual for Twin Peaks. Initially, it's hard to give a shit about some of the characters in these subplots because we don't really get enough information about them, but then it kind of feels like these character were never really meant for you to feel for. It just feels like they exist in the story to show you that the same old shit is happening, and what you expect is going to happen in those situations is undoubtedly going to happen.

Cooper turning back to normal so he can handle Mr. C, and Mr. C getting the coordinates are definitely the meat & of the story. Everything else just feels like a consequence of peeking back in at this world at this time. When those side plots drop, they don't really matter to me anymore because I think I knew where they were headed.

But as for interpreting the ending, that's gonna take a while for me to process. My feelings on first viewing though was certainly something negative happen. I've seen Cooper as being someone in over his head often times. Sometimes it seemed like the lodge spirits were testing him, like with the coffee in the original series, to teach him not to fear.
>>
>>87392661
The Doppelganger was the only one concerned with Annie. The true message of Twin Peaks is that real Cooper is actually the asshole.

It's so painfully obvious that Diane was inserted into Annie's role, because Lynch has a hard-on for Laura Dern, and he is a bitter autist who has never stopped resenting the network meddling in S2. He ruined what was otherwise a 10/10 masterpiece ending because of his pettiness and favoritism.

I think Judy and her spirits are tricking Cooper. Alice TREMOND living in a house previously owned by the CHALFONTS is clearly a symbol that Cooper is being tricked by lodge shenanigans. Remember that the Tremonds and the Chalfonts have the ability to replace the owners of a house (like they did with the neighbors of the autist who had Laura's diary pages, or the trailer in the Fat Trout Trailer Park in FWWM).
My take is that they're hiding Sarah so that she doesn't meet Laura.

Windom Earle is inquestionably the best part of season two, simply because what enshrouds the Deleuzian representation of negation in “The Black Lodge” is by nature (W)indom (E)arle. We, the pure ample aspiration, the capital v-Viewer are held fantastically in a grip of pleasure as "solicitude", certainty as “knowingness” and “The Black Lodge” as ontological blockchain/godhead. TMFAP is absolute fact in opposition but the baroque villainy of WE's (and any Lovecraftian) the same sin to die “now” as on the path to Madness. The conditional “It” (DC) creates nothing in response, Earle's own humanity is reflected in his oeuvre of disguise-personalities. (performed) To WE (& the normative Cooper &Briggs) the Implacability of unsure sentiment is Earle’s selfenforcing principle, pleasure--simplicity. In Palmer, the reprised intelligences move towards psychosomatic transgression. WE's sickness is symptom & myth unlike the Palmer daughter his active agent is not important, but “normal” and yet pronouncedly considerable as such, bidding. “We a the, of not can he.” The subject of Earle is in an undiluted terrace viewed viewers become wrote wonders, noting nothing Indian anyhow in the Black Lodge (negation).

Then, there’s Earle, the something coupling with Lodge entities, (call it “force”, of what? of course: illusion. – by since And because of supremacy In ALL perceptions, (rare & cloistered the issue may be) what we then Now view as reality, IS,) [in WE's] subjection a full picture. In an open letter to Kenneth Welsh “Windom Earle” one asks to which if not to want introduction (Mark Frost) gigantic of up wrote run life, (MF) introduction, revelation, dreams, & value system, (MF,MF,DL,MF) ie. AS Windom Earle hAS in the Black Lodge. (the rudimentary transition in S2 of Windom A into form Windom B.) Perhaps to “comfyfags“ will greet these upon death, a paradoxical death for those who existence infects.

Cooper made some sort of mistake, symbolized by THREE Cowboys.

I suspect Cooper's mistake relates to the fact that "love wasn't enough", per Major Briggs's prediction. Cooper used Diane's love to cross realities, but did not search for her as soon as he finally crossed and immediately went looking for Laura instead. Basically, I think he ran on Black Lodge juice (pain and sorrow) for too long, and while he held onto his identity as Cooper, his mannerisms changed, his smile and optimism gone, his love abandoned in pursuit of Laura Palmer. Just like he abandoned Annie, Harry and Janey-E beforehand, as soon as their love brought him closer to his goals.

I hate people who write pretentious dissertations on Twin Peaks saying
>Judy 'ching chong' 尿屎 'to explain"
It's fucking annoying. It's like the Twin Peaks symbol brekaing into 708. No it fucking doesn't.

>>87393755
does that have anything to do with my post?
I don't see it.

I was kind of surprised in 2017 that post actually got upvoted. It's relatively common knowledge at this point that chinese/japanese can have multiple meanings and readings and just hearing a word out loud and saying "hey it means X!!!" is a really dumb thing to do.

The footage shifts from his interview to that of Mrs. Tremond's grandson hopping around like a bird outside the Hotel.

Gordon said Jowday, these guys are saying "jiao dé" or some shit like that. Phonetics in chinese and in english are very fucking different, and the "to explain" they're trying to force just doesn't fit with what Gordon said.
It's basically what >>87393877 says. You can fit Jowday in a fucking plethora of characters that sound similar to it and pretend that's what it means. But that's not how Chinese works.

Surprised? Seriously? Reddit isn't about factual accuracy. It's a popularity contest. 9 times out of 10 the most upvoted comment to a theory is a mom joke based on it and it demeans the theory. Even an AMA with Lynch wouldn't go to waste, because they'd ask all the wrong questions.

Yes, it was a very clear attempt by Lynch to dispel any intrigue around that claim. No rapist would put themselves in the same scene as someone crying rape. Unless you're Lynch.
>>
>>87393973
Basically this. They will upvote what sounds cool instead of what is accurate/makes sense. Pretending that Judy is a meta commentary on how the show is written, or that the Owl's Cave symbol breaks down into 708 sound cool. That doesn't mean they're true. But they'll get upvoted, they'll get more visibility and people will start believing they're true.

You're literally acting like Lynch intentionally put a fucking Lamp and a tree next to each other in his shot as a reference to other things. Get a fucking grip.
>>
>>87394176
yeah right, it's just a big conincidence that the shot ends with several seconds of the cut tree and the lamppost while the car is clearly out of the shot already. and, of course, David Lynch never plants any abstract hints in his works.

you fail to make your own conclusions and the best you can do is insult people, who can actually point such things out to others. lmao what a waste are.
>>
>>87394249

>>
>>87394236
you are legitimately autistic and crazy. Seek therapy. David Lynch didn't put that Tree and Lamp in the ground like you're acting to make reference to other things that are in the show. They've obviously been there for years.
>>
>>87394249
literally literally literally
>>87394293
you're literally a retard, how's that?

he doesn't need to PLANT that there. it's enough for him to have seen the lamppost on the sight and just use it the way it is.
BOB was introduced as a character exactly the same way, you complete utter idiot! It was an accident! He loves "happy accidents" in his work. Are you totally daft? What's your problem?
>>
>>87394303
and he has always included coincidences in his filmmaking process you fucking retard, go and read about Frank Silva accidentally being in the mirror and such. If the location he was filming in had something that resembled the arm (which it did) and he noticed it (which he probably did since he pointed his camera directly at it and put it in the show) then you can bet your fucking dick he would use it in the show.

My interpretation

Saying Judy or the Lodge spirits tricked Cooper, or that Cooper in the end failed is problematic. The problem with this interpretation is it turn Twin Peaks into a Gnostic universe, which I don't think is right. It is essentializing the mythology which imo is more of a parallel to psychic fantasies for the characters. Judy (the mother of all evil) is entirely a red herring, and so is the black/white lodge distinction (as correctly you point out). Just like with BOB, Judy is the name we give to the unspeakable evil men do (rape, killing one's own blood and the Atom bomb). Also the Black Lodge is the realm of dreams and uninhibited pure desire, the white lodge which is the neutralization of all desire is the afterlife, a realm of no conflict and exist in pure serenity. Concerning Coops quest, it is not accurate to say nothing has changed, Coop cannot change Laura Palmer's death in FWWM, but he can go on a whole other universe. What Coop is doing is looping between universes in e18, different universes=different dreams , we all live inside a dream makes sense if we take it be an endless parallel world sequence, Coop in that universe becomes Richard, Diane and Linda, Laura becomes Carrie and so on (hence ∞ ). But Dreams even if they are parallel worlds we dream up they all have a fundamental structure based on desire, repression and disavowal. Coop did erase Laura's death but did not erase the psychic structure that is elemental in all infinite Lauras.

Also, remember the Giant, "Richard and Linda , two birds with one stone" , Richard is in this parallel world/dream is uninhibited Coop he is Id (mr. C), Ego (Dougie) and super-ego (Coop), altogether. Diane as Linda is the woman he can never have but desires, she is the femme-fatale in this noire structure (similar to Arquette in Lost Highway), without her as a goal, Richard is on a Quixotic quest to save the woman in trouble he was never able to save.

cont.

Richard saves Laura, because that is his dream and conjures a parallel world where she is alive. But in the Lynchian universe the dreamworld is never perfect and is always ready to breakdown into a nightmare when the desire for liberation/desire short circuits or drives into a wall.Chalfont and Tremont connection is the dream breaking down , it's seeing behind the curtain the Wizard of Oz. Lauras fate can change but not what she IS or what she will always be ("she is the one" i.e. never controlled by an evil force, but destined suffer under it, because of her mother and father. )

I did think 2 timelines was the credible explanation for Cooper's last scene.

>Coop gets sent back to save Laura
>Laura is saved by Coop and taken away from inevitable death
>Timeline is saved
- life continues as normal
- Sarah Palmer's demon stuck in human form
>But older Coop and Texan Laura are now stuck in the timeline they were in initially
>>
>>87394820
if it is a different time line and Sarah became this woman, why would he want to show her the Palmer-house? Did she lose her memory when she was sucked away in the forrest?
Was that shot of Lee sitting on the sofa in a nice evening dress planted to spread wrong conclusions?
>>
>>87394922
Because they were two different entities. The old Laura in the forest and her tulpa in Odessa that Cooper found and tried to reawaken.
>>
>>87395330
A tulpa is created in the red room the way we saw how the new Dougie-Coop was created ...

how and why would there be a Tulpa of Laura, as she is sucked away? If you make these kind of assumptions, you need to think a little further.
>>
>>87394401
ultimate vaporwave
>>
>>87393623
but the tremonds (IE, the boy with the pointy nose mask) literally lived in Sarah's house in the alt reality. All the jumping man motifs converge there. It's not asking too much brain power to work it out.
