REPOST

>The scittering sound happens when 80's Laura gets sucked away. We see that same sucking-away-and-screaming thing happen directly in the Lodge to separate Laura from Cooper. So where Judy is keeping Carrie is most likely an evil Lodge dimension.

>You enter the Black Lodge through fear and suffering. The pocket dimension created by Judy to cage golden-orb-Laura must be closed off to good spirits, so human Coop has to rescue Laura for the Giant. It's a dark place where he can't even speak.

>They cross the threshold at "430", but it isn't until waking from the sex scene does Coop's personality change and he actually arrives in the motel he leaves to find Carrie.

>So Diane's rape trauma leading to that sex being horrifying was actually integral.

>That's my working explanation, anyway.

...In my vision, I was at the post limit of a vast discussion, a /tv/ thread of some... fantastic proportion.
There seemed to emanate from it, a light from within, this gleaming, radiant text.

I'd known this thread.

I had in fact been born and raised there.

But this was my first Twin Peaks: The Return...

A reunion, with the deepest well-springs of my being.

Wandering about, I noticed (happily) that the thread had been immaculately maintained.

There'd been added a number of additional memes, but in a way that blended so seamlessly with the original construction, one would never detect any difference.

Returning to the beginning of the catalogue, there came a bump at the front page.

/tpg/ was standing there.

It was happy and carefree, clearly living a life of deep lore, and theory.

We embraced, a warm and loving embrace.

Nothing withheld.

We were, in this moment, One.

The thread ended, and I awoke with a tremendous feeling of optimism and confidence, in /tpg/, and its future.

That was my vision... of you.

I'm so glad to have had this opportunity to share it with you.

I wish you nothing but the very best, in all things.

>>87352525
Guys, I've been LYNCHED on a cosmic level.

The "globalist conspiracy" is the Black Lodge doppelganger of the ideal of Communism. It looks like happy be-nice-and-share-for-the-children Communism on the outside, but that's an illusion hiding evil autocratic Soros-brand tyrrany. Lynch's support of Bernie is all part of his art.

Anime is pro-individualism, pro-freedom, pro-capitalism and celebrates genuine femininty as well as merit in special individuals, and provides strong female icons that remain feminine despite their power or status. It's a mirror image-inversion of globalist propaganda. It's a good-natured "doppelganger of the doppelganger" to globalist communism. Anime and weeaboo fandom is like the Evolution of the Arm, to globalist communism's Man From Another Place.

The "Experiment/Mother", disgorging streams of mucousy globules containing round, egg-like blobs? Into "water"? Remind you of a certain female presidential candidate's speech?

LYNCH WARNED US ABOUT ALL OF THIS.

God, I can't believe how good the episode was. Everything was so cold and joyless, and incredibly slow moving but there was so much tension. So much mystery to it and so tortured, it's the most depressing episode of the show if you don't count Fire Walk With Me.

Season 3 almost made us forget about the bleak reality of what is at the core of this show, and Part 16 and 17 turn whimsical, giving us some false hope of a fantastical resolution to it all. Then all the pain and suffering in this world comes back to punch you in the gut. Yes, season 3 was dark and full of hopelessness, terrible things happening but there was a certain apathy to it, it didn't leave an impact on anybody, not even on the towns people of Twin Peaks.

I'm left completely stunned by it, I haven't felt this way about a movie or show since I watched Fire Walk With Me 3 years ago. It has truly left a mark.

neither

I sure hope the blu ray set of this season has a whole bunch of deleted footage. I will admit that the most disappointing aspect of the season is how little its many plots amounted to.

What did Tammy, Albert, and Gordon actually accomplish? I don't think they had any bearing on the plot, whatsoever. Even Ben Horne's couple of scenes served, functionally, as a means of giving his hotel key to Sheriff Truman so Cooper could... enter the room in the Great Northern (I suppose that he could have asked Ben when he got there, ha).

I am fine with side-stories existing for their own sake, to an extent (like Ed/Nadine/Norma/Jacoby), but for so much time to be devoted to Gordon and Albert and Tammy, only to have them functionally do nothing for 17 hours, is kind of a letdown. Unless someone has a better take on what their story was supposed to accomplish in the larger sense of the season.

This s literally a hand gesture David Lynch does every time he talks about ideas and dreams, it's like he's willing an existence into place for himself in this moment.

I don't believe in any dream theories so far, but then again I don't think there is an ultimate right interpretation to this final hour of the show either. There is a lot to it, so much to dig into an analyze.

Masterful.

>>87356394
the simple reason i don't agree with this common platitude is that laura's scream is basically an affirmation that cooper has found the right person and done 'something'. so is there any indication that they are trapped? no. is there indication that she is waking from a dream? no. there is only indication that the lodge exists outside of linear time or is a point where all timelines converge and that laura's scream is similar to one in which she is whisked away to somewhere else. for all we know she escaped and the credits scene is her saying "my father killed me" in perpetuity. its not sad, it is literally dark, yes, but its even pans in on her face like a joke.

Anybody remember The Big O?

Remember that season 2 finale that was completely similarly fucked and explained nothing?

Turned out in an interview from a few years ago they said if they got a season 3 they were gonna explain it, but also ask more questions by the end. They never intended to answer more than they asked. David Lynch made a similar comment about what he said he wanted season 3 to be.

So I'm not upset that none of it makes sense and Cooper's even more lost than he was at the end of season 2. Twin Peaks will never be wrapped up with a neat bow, so I'm just enjoying it for the ride and accepting that our theories are all we'll have by the end of each season.

It's pretty important on the basis that it works Diane into the story alone, she played a major role in the final hour.

I also think that without it, it'd maybe feel strange, an entire season of Twin Peaks without an FBI investigation of sorts. It was there and it fleshed out the mythos quite a lot, this is totally banal but if I had to guess I think that Mark Frost was the driving force behind that plotline and Lynch the Dougie one.

Dougie is all about the intuition of a character going through a world without understanding it, it's basically all mood. Whereas the FBI story is all lore and exposition there to make the universe feel bigger and more connected.

This is another hanging thread that is pretty disappointing.

While I can understand that a main theme running through this season is that the villains are actually not very threatening (when compared to "an extreme negative force"), and can be easily defeated (Doppelganger, BOB, Chantal/Hutch, Todd, Ike, Richard), I feel like it's a dropped ball to have this guy run around half the country with almost no explanation for what he even wants to do or hopes to accomplish. He has that card with the dark symbol on it (that Hawk never explains to Truman, or us), and while I think it is satisfying to see him swept away like so much trash, another line or two could have done much to get us to understand his story better.

>>87356375
a neat callback to ep3, when Cooper did not have the understanding or the ability to enter every room in the lodge. By the time he has the piece of the past (room 315), he can enter the lodge and travel further than he has ever been allowed (Dutchman's, the past (the future?), alternate reality (dreamland?).

I thought that after watching Part 17 that this wasn't the direction they were going in, I truly feared it was going to wrap itself up into a neat little bow and solve everything and leave everybody content with what happened.

That would have maybe been gratifying in the very short term but forgettable in the long term. The way this ended was shocking, and not shocking in the way the original series ended, it was shocking because of how painful it was, how sobering it was to be reminded of the awful life of Laura Palmer and how there can be no happy ending to it.

The Return was a complete mess and I really thought the whole Dougie thing was as bad as it could get that is until parts 17 and 18. I think Lynch is doing the right thing by not making anymore films. He obviously has some issues. FWWM was a total letdown when I saw it in the theatre in 1992 and when I first heard that the new series was an extension of the film I got worried. There were some parts of the series I liked but I didn't see why we had to be built up over and over again just to be let down again. I bet the execs at Showtime regret spending all that money on this project. IMO it would have been a much better series if other people had been involved. The whole demigod Lynchian thing is what destroyed the project. So many things were not addressed and others went on way too long. It's over and I am actually glad it is. It was exhausting to watch and honestly just made me angry most Sundays. I don't understand why Lynch did this but if he wanted his final project remembered as a collosal flop that's what he got

So what exactly was doppelcoops plan if he actually made the car trip to that timeline crossover place on the side of the road? He was obviously going to drive the same way Coop did in the finale to cross over to a different timeline, but then what? the overlay of cooper's face is not an "in-universe" thing, it's a visual for the viewer. it is the first explicit sign that the ending you are watching is not quite what it seems (although you might have already picked this up from the general vibe of the scene and knowledge about Lynch and how you might expect him to end a story), it's the first thing that shows the established reality breaking down and the sentence about dreams is there to remind you that this is all about dreams and its about to get dreamlike as fuck.

There was more than one dreamer. When Cooper's face appeared that meant it was his dream and he realised it so he had control of what was happenening. Twin Peaks was an interconnection of dreams in a dimension, a world and Cooper has traveled to another world but thanks to the giant, he remembers where he comes from unlike Diane who starts crying at the sex scene as she's losing the sense of who she is.

Insulated against the Lodge. That symbology was pretty good.

My guess is that because the rubber glove is a manifestation of the Fireman, it was effective, not super punching in general.

It being a onepunch glove was the clue to the kindhearted and nonviolent Freddy as to what it was *for*, ie killing Lodge entities.

Wait... who was the phone?
>>
>>87356532

It could go either way, really.

As I understand it, Cooper did all he could. I mean, what he did was what he was instructed to from the very first or at least the second episode. Leland told him to find Laura. Laura told him that a part of her is still alive. The Giant told him more or less exactly what to do. And Cooper did.

>Went to the place 430 miles away
>Assumed the identity of Richard
>Found Laura
>Brought her back to Twin Peaks

Sure, he seemed like it dawned on him that he had no idea what to do when it turned out that Sarah/Judy wasn't at the house, he probably expected her to be there for some sort of final confrontation with Laura but still something happened when she screames, the electricity went out and seeing howelectricity is what the spirits of the Black Lodge use to travel it might mean that the Black Lodge was sealed. Or that the reality Laura was trapped in broke down and the both of them awakened in the real world.

There are a lot of positive ways to interpet the ending.
>>
So what was the bug/frog?

Was it Judy or a manifestation or BOB or something else?

I think it was Sarah that it crawled into, which is why we heard the bug noise after she stabbed Laura's picture but right before Laura disappeared from Cooper's hand, as well as an explanation for Sarah's clairvoyance. But I don't know if the brog is Judy or something else possessing Sarah.
>>
>>87357504
Yeah and only one BOB orb. We don't know that that bug was a manifestation of BOB and considering he wasn't physical and could inhabit whoever he wanted to I doubt it was him. I don't know why he would need to be born in a physical human body way only to be able to leave that body at will and take over another one.

I think more likely that the eggs and that bug were akin to sperm from the evil. Doppelcoop was able to conceive Richard due to his physical form but all the other evil people like Red were maybe conceived by those bugs and the people that were born from them.

>>
What a fascinating case of mass self-delusion this has been. It's truly amazing and disgusting how heavily people are stroking themselves over their ability to force themselves to choke down something that is so very poorly executed just so they can reach that oh so "clever" hidden story within.

Look, I know that it must be very comforting to keep talking down to people about how they just don't get the weirdness and complexity of it all (because WOW, use of metaphor and non-linear storytelling in the video medium? UNHEARD OF!), but that's really not the problem here. It's the absolutely abysmal pacing and structure. Yes people, we get it. Lynch likes to pull the same old thing out of his bag of tricks that he always has, where he tries to artificially induce unease by drawing scenes out well past their welcome, except instead of the handful of times spread out across a 2-3 hour movie we are now treated to 45/60 minutes of this filler in each episode of an 18 hour saga, leaving very little room for any actual worthwhile content. You don't need to be a mathematician to see that the ratio between the two is incredibly uneven.

But OK, yippee hooray for ARTISTIC INTEGRITY! He has such complete free rein to spew out completely unfettered streams of consciousness that no one at all will dare to tell him that maybe things like having a confused old woman talking to the police about who has the keys to a door for 10 straight minutes is an absolute waste of film, and none of you will dare admit that this pile of slop is in dire need of editing because you're too busy preening about what an artistic genius Lynch is, and how open-minded and avant-garde you are by extension for being able to wrap your heads around a plot that's literally been done a hundred times before in superhero comic books.

A big slow clap for you all.

lol, if you understood the finale, you'd know that this was it. Laura's story is over and thus the show is over.

I feel like the box was supposed to be Jeffries. He's the only character in that story that would be there.

Why he's a metal box with a light on it, I don't know. But I think that is what it was.

I did think 2 timelines was the credible explanation for Cooper's last scene.

>Coop gets sent back to save Laura
>Laura is saved by Coop and taken away from inevitable death
>Timeline is saved
- life continues as normal
- Sarah Palmer's demon stuck in human form
>But older Coop and Texan Laura are now stuck in the timeline they were in initially

it's lived, lynch had likely not envisioned the ending of season 3 properly at that time, and you don't switch from past to present tense in the same sentence like that. It WAS a dream, we LIVED inside a dream. He's clearly clarifying the first statement with the second.

You completely missed my point and answered with a non-sequitir. Twin Peaks isn't just camera work, or any one element. It is a melding of many elements, which is why it is such a remarkable piece of story-telling.

To say "I only like it for [one element]" is to ignore the others that make it special.

Does anyone else think that Lynch personally doubled for Jack Nance in the new shot of Pete fishing?
>>
>>87358572
I don't know, there is an argument to be made for the disconnect in Bowie's statements and it was shown that the convenience store could be accessed I the real world and not just in a dream. Doppelcoop takes Diane there for example.

Please.
"When the robot robin was revealed on the Blue Velvet set, everyone said no way it looked atrocious and fake. 'It's PERFECT,' screamed Lynch."
He loves this shit for real for real and you should too.
One Punch Lad vs Bob was great and probably the most realistic part of The Return.
>>
>>87358324
I feel like the real knowledge to glean from the ending is the cyclical nature of fight vs evil, rather than "evil always wins". Neither ever wins.
>>
>>87358902
I didn't think that he referred to a dream in a literal sense. It's just one of many realities, all of them having dream-like qualities. This one got a happy ending and everywhere else he needs to go afterward is a nightmare in comparison.

Honestly, it probably isn't very profound, but it sure as hell ain't literal.
