Just finished watching Dune. I'm suprised how many familiar faces played in the movie. I kinda liked it, the setting was cool and I found the spiritual aspect very interesting. Kyle was top qt. Also, in the shorter version, is the editing better bc I watched the 3 hour one and it was all over the place. And why did they have so many voiceovers? Were they afraid the plot would be too difficult to understand?

>From a financial perspective, Nevins says Twin Peaks has exceeded expectations.

https://inews.co.uk/essentials/culture/television/twin-peaks-sherilyn-fenn-audrey-david-lynch/

>If David Lynch wanted to do another season of Twin Peaks, would you do it? “Oh yeah. He said if people loved it he would do another one, and the hardest part is just sitting down and writing it. But he had so much fun this time, he really loved it. And he got to do it the way he wanted to. It’s like an 18-hour movie, so he’s happy. Let’s just stay positive. It really turned out the way he wanted it to in his heart.”

I won't speak for everyone ofc, but overall very positive feedback. Show feels great and delivers in not being just a rehash of the old show, but doing something new without it feeling like everything we did love about the old show was being thrown aside. Personally I am also grateful Lynch took his time and brought Cooper back so late, the hype when he did was great.

You're a retard. No one cares. Either they don't know what twin peaks is at all or know it's a "weird show", but wouldn't have enough investment in you or it to feel anything strongly about you liking the show. The only way they'd know twin peaks well enough to think you're crazy for watching it is if they watched it themselves. The only reason someone would think you were "crazy" is because you're being an autistic spazz about literally nothing.

>>
>>87192035
It's defied my expectations in a really great way. It's completely avoided fanservice or pandering to nostalgia. Instead, it's sought to provide the shakeup to the TV landscape that the original run did in 1990.

If these past few days of rewatching the previous sixteen episodes have shown me anything, it's that this series rewards multiple viewings. It's a rare thing to get me to watch a TV show all the way through, let alone multiple times. Those first three episodes are at least as good, if not better, than the first three episodes of the original run, and I think the overall quality is superior to the original run.

It's the best thing to happen to television since The Sopranos ended.

I enjoyed that last episode very much, but I couldn't shake the feeling that everything was more cheesy. Of course the characters were always somewhat ridiculous, but they were treated seriously. Last episode with Coop coming back 100%, everything just seemed more cheesy; I hate the phrase, but the characters seemed to be caricatures of themselves, working more perfect then ever before so everything could fall into place just right. I'm fine with a moment of triumph and happiness finally, it just felt a little rushed, and more cheesy and unrealistic as a result. Story wise it advanced everything, but ultimately I felt it stuck out compared to the other episodes in tone and style etc. Anyone else feel the same? I need to rewatch but my initial response was just a touch of disappointment. Instead of cheering when coop came back to just felt a little forced
>>
>>87194106
No, she's ded. F
>>
I've been thinking about why the Fireman picked Andy, and I think I know why now. Andy is the only person without a distraction on the side. Frank has his wife, who has been hysterical ever since their son took his own life, and because of this, she doesn't listen to reason. Bobby will have Becky's death (that is if she's actually dead). Hawk has the Log Lady's death, though this is a very debatable one that Hawk would have a hard time dealing with this since he has a different view of death than most people.

And about Becky's death, I don't think it was by gun. You would assume if a gunshot went off in the trailer park, Carl or someone in the trailer park would have heard it. I'm thinking it's an OD.

>>
>>87194375
I'm not denying that, but there's no indicating that they're using magic to make people more stupid around him. Las Vegas in this series is just a weird, ridiculous place
>>
>>87194417
The original Dougie Jones was a drunken moron so that's why people hardly noticed a difference.
>>
>>87194168
It's because he's pure of heart to an almost naive/child level. Cooper was too and the British guy had a similar vibe.

Andy was the first one (and only one) to go and hold the absolute monstrosity they found in the woods.
>>
>>87194124
I think that forcefulness is meant to capture the joy that moment is meant to elicit. It's so over the top with the music and that line reading that there's no way to have it impact you. Lynch knows how to use melodrama to powerful effect, but you gotta have an appreciation for it. Just because some characters act in a certain way doesn't mean it's automatically bad. Twin Peaks is a great example of using that kind of stylistic acting to great effect.
>>
>>87194454
I know, that's the joke
but the entire situation of an individual going around like that and not many people being legitimately concerned about them is what's unrealistic, and that's what I was just saying. Like, he even goes to a doctor and the doctor doesn't say ANYTHING. Even a hack doctor would acknowledge that. It's wasn't meant to insult the series or anything, I love where it's going and has been.
>>
>>87194607
That's called comedic exaggeration, anon. It's meant to seem silly so that you laugh.

Why is there such an overlap of Twin Peaks and Mad Men fans? Is it just because Lynch said he liked it and the fanboys are following? Or is there some genuine similarities?

Just curious, I've never seen an episode in my life and I'm craving something else to watch when Twin Peaks ends.
>>
>>87194691
There's a few """surreal""" nods to Twin Peaks in Mad Men. It is also a similar but definitely different exploration on the whole thing about the facade of American ideals and the underlying darkness in everyday family life. It's a very different show, though.

>It's so over the top with the music and that line reading that there's no way to have it impact you
I mean yeah it made me chuckle, but you're right, there wasn't much impact and I was kind of hoping for more (or less).

I can't wait for Sunday. I'm gonna cry if Cooper dies though. Seems really likely and I'm sure he'd die a hero's death, but man.

I guess to me what it means and how it was done kind of went separate ways. In the original series most of the payoffs were great because (excluding the obvious) there was tonal consistency. Whereas ep. 16 seemed a bit inconsistent compared to the rest of the season and so the over blown-ness felt out of place rather than the logical climax

Dude it's not "unrealistic" they said that the original Dougie had a car accident and that sometimes had some "episodes" were he acted like that, of course his workmates , his family or his doctor don't care about him acting like a retard, he acted like that all the time.

the show has been changing tone every few episodes, it's probably intentional.

If you watch the first 2 , and then episode 11 for example, they feel like completely different shows
>>
>>87194907
I think the tonal consistency of the first two seasons was more due to the way TV was done back then. That being said, there's some pretty strong exceptions throughout. I also trust Lynch enough to not feel like the changes in tone aren't intentional. Just watching FWWM and how deliberately it is done tonally so dark and bleak shows how much awareness Lynch has as a director. The show has always been very heightened and tonally shifting. Idk, it was only a strong shift to me because it was such a big moment. Otherwise, it wasn't anything we hadn't seen before in this show.
>>
>>87194938
If you compare Mad Men's viewer ratings to their sister show Walking Dead like people compare Twin Peaks ratings to Game of Thrones, it's pretty similar.
>>
>>87195037
That's fair, I do need to rewatch the episode as well as the season as a whole. I think its crazy how much ground the season has covered and how much it has evolved. And I should not to knock it until its in context and I can see what comes after. I just saw everyone jumping out of their seats and I was a little more perplexed than overjoyed
>>
Frenlos, Twin Peaks may come to an end on Sunday night. Will we all care about Twin Peaks after that? :(

Good point, to me I guess the direction the tone went was weird, but the amount it changed was not unusual. And I trust Lynch, everything has been 10/10 so far. Just like everything leading up to "I am the FBI" made me laugh, somewhat in confusion, but not feel overwhelming joy. I'd be very curious to rewatch the season not in order as Lynch suggested could be done and see the different way the various tones could be pieced together
>>
>>87195111
To be honest, i was kind dissapointed with how lynch handled the return of Cooper, it felt forced and really uncreative, and the "im the fbi" moment felt more like a compromise than a genuine nod to the fans.

Twin Peaks is meant to be almost due north of Spokane, not where Snoqualmie is
>>
>>87195275
I feel like what puts people off to his stuff is that it causes people to sort of have a "wtf" reaction to certain things. I feel like maybe sometimes people feel like that isn't intentional, but I think Lynch encourages people to feel confused. That's part of the mystery and fun of seeing his stuff. It's one of the few things you can watch nowadays and feel like you won't know what will happen next.

The plot required Twin Peaks to be close to both the Canadian border and the Idaho border, otherwise there would be no reason for the FBI to get involved.

Regular user here. I've made this new account purely to post this because some of it is too close to the bone for me to be able to write it under my 'real' user name.

Over the last couple of years a few shitty things have happened. My brother and my best friend both passed away. Both under the age of 30. My mother passed away. My marriage fell apart and I got divorced and in the process I lost everything, including my business. Not looking for sympathy here, just giving context. Things were pretty low for me. I got depression. It wasn't the kind where I just felt down. It was the kind where I'd spend a week in bed. I stopped speaking to friends and family. I was drinking a lot. There were moments when I thought about giving up. One source of light in all of that, and I don't want to sound trite or sychophantic, was the idea of the Return. I was counting down the weeks just to see Twin Peaks again; a show that was a massively important part of my early teenage years. There was a good six months where literally the only thing I had to hold onto and to look forward to was the Return.

>>
>>87196842
So it came back. At the end of the premiere I was in tears. It was back and it felt so good. I've tuned in each week, and the 'waking up' of Twin Peaks started to mirror my own waking up. Each week I felt a growing connection with the story and there have been moments of joy in the new season that have affected me so much that I was able to carry them into my own life. I was able to feel joy again, so slowly I started to meet with friends again. To do a little more. The feeling that I got after watching S3E16 was something I wouldn't believe a piece of art could give me, but it did. I made steps after that episode to attempt to open up another company and I reached out to some old clients and asked if they'd be interested in my services as before (I was a language teacher, teaching privately - I AM a language teacher). I was surprised that many of them did and in the space of the last week they've put the word out and it is looking like I'll have enough students to re-open my school. That would not have happened, were it not for my experience with this show. I haven't worked for over two years.

It is no exaggeration that this show has saved me. I thank David Lynch, Mark Frost, all of the cast and crew, and Showtime for allowing this to happen. I feel indebted to them all. This is a Return that I will never forget, nor ever take for granted.

Anyone else have trouble finding people to talk to about The Return outside the internet?

Besides my wife, who I've been watching The Return, and one other friend who I turned Twin Peaks on to, I don't have any other friends or family who watch. I've even taken to yelling out "Helllo-ooo" out in public just trying to catch another Peaker's attention.

I was at a concert last night, asking someone if they've been watching. Someone else overheard me say Twin Peaks and came over, declaring herself a huge fan.

Me: "Sweet! So what do you think about The Return!?!"

Her: "Oh I just watched the original run. My friend said The Return is just random weird stuff so I didn't bother."

Carrie Paige isn't a Sheryl Lee character, she's Beverly Paige's daughter who is a prostitute. I just rewatched the Diane scene and noticed something really weird (although Reddit or somewhere has probably already mentioned it). Before Diane pulls the gun you can see Tammie lose to Albert, after she draws it and the two of them draw theirs Tammie is far off the left. Then she's back and close to Albert again.

Continuity error? Making sense out of this series seems to hinge on Lynch not making those.

As far as I remember he was just trying to avoid an awkward conversation or question, and Albert called him out on it. Normal elderly trickery.

me too, anon.. me too.

Life hasn't been great for me the past few years, but Twin Peaks has really warmed my heart and helped me, and being part of this community has been so nice, it's the best time I've ever had on 4chan and I think I'm leaving it when its over because it's all downhill from here. I'll return if Season 4 ever comes but I'd like to leave this place on a high note.

ZZ Top is one of my all-time favorite bands. When I first heard them, I said, these people have got the power. They just kick butt.
>>
>>87193769
I just realized that kid who was staring out the window has probably seen:
>a car exploding and killing about four people
>Dougie being guided home by a limo driver
>an elaborate jungle gym being delivered and installed
>a food truck being emptied into the house by two mobsters and three ballerinas
>a neighbor ramming his car into a truck then casually walking down the street while gunning them down and being arrested by FBI

>>
>>87201061
Yeah. Apparently there were 5 hours of footage from Fire Walk With Me, and Missing Pieces was only an hour of it.

Dunno if MP was released before or after they started writing, but it's probably going to have a bunch of those scenes as Cooper's on his way to TP.
>>
>>87198964
He's been working with MIKE to find Cooper(s).
>>
>>87199402
There's no way something like that was intentional. Why would they film the shot without Tammy in the first place? Lynch is just adding all these weird continuity errors because it's going to be revealed that this whole series has been one big dream by somebody(probably Lynch himself).
