Close enough, anon. Close enough.
So what's everyone's favourite title sequence?
Mine is pic related
anybody has the pic of Moffat replying to Frank Offerino in a magazine?
>>87138227
What did he mean by this?
>>87138259
Tennant tbqh. I dunno if that's a popular or unpopular opinion.
Also unsure if you mean music or visuals
>>87138259
TV movie one, naturally. (I swear I'm not just biased, I do genuinely like the visuals and the theme tune of it.)
>>87138271
Yup, here you go!
>>87138271
what?
>>87138259
The very original, no question.
>>87138382
Good choice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1SZs4xudf8
I know it's not exactly a popular title sequence with the fans since it's kind of cheaply-made, but I kind of miss this title sequence. And it was only used in ten episodes!
>>87138424
Reee you know what I meant!
>>87138430
I liked it, was kino to get the face back. Would have worked better if deployed at the end of the Snowmen as first planned, been a more exciting introduction for it.

Shit trips 2 when
>>87138485
I was so annoyed the first time it aired. Before it aired, the DW channel actually uploaded the titles to YouTube, but kept the video on private - all we got was a thumbnail teasing us for like two weeks before the special.
So, I'd been waiting in anticipation (I love seeing new titles and hearing new themes, it's kind of like a tradition), and since it was on Christmas Day and I was watching it with the family, they all jokingly screamed the theme over it. I JUST WANTED TO HEAR IT

I was a random anon on /who/ back when ST1 went on, but I didn't write anything for it. I love ST1, there's so many hilarious stories but also a lot of just plain really interesting Doctor Who stories.
Hope you enjoy mine!

I am surprised they even ran this interview. Literally nothing about it is salvageable.
Back onto the topic of the Pertwee titles being my favourite, this is really fascinating to watch even though it's just test footage.

I really want to make my own howlaround titles but nothing I've tried so far has come close to being as good as the DW ones.

>>87149688
Yes. All of them.
>>87149664
It would need to not suck ass for that to be the case.
>>87149664
It's very well-made and the music is incredible, but personally I don't think the concept is really strong enough for it to be the real thing. With Hanshaw, it was a hugely original concept which pretty much everyone on the internet agreed was kino.
This is a little bare, really, and just goes TARDIS in space > Doctor face > Cast names > vortex and that's it.
Hanshaw's was really eye-catching and different - you had it go from Gears > Droste effect clock (with an electricity effect on the TARDIS warping it) > Vortex with Gallifreyan symbols > Cast names > Face > Episode name.
>>87150019
genuine question: what would have to be an even more kino concept to get the attention of Chibbers?
>>87150067
Personally I think if any fan intro concept should be used, it would be this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3DIs_AXAH4
It's immediately very different, original and eye-catching with unique concepts (the TARDIS in the bubble, the howlaround, the diamond effects in the vortex, the incredible way the logo appears, and the glass shatter effect). It's honestly my favourite fan intro.
>>87150136
same desu
shit I wish they'd bring back the howlaround sometimeI mean I'm hoping the Christmas special's titles have a bit of Hartnell-esque elements in them
>>87150067
Like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0TmXRrDpP8 except instead of TV screens we keep tracking back out the doorways of an endless line of TARDISes across space and time, until finally we come out into the vortex, which we also zoom out of to reveal it's inside the Doctor's eye, the Doctor's face dissolves into 60s style wiggle effects
>>87150136
..Come on, man. Half of that sequence is predicated on the past. How the hell is it original and different? The TARDIS in a bubble? UHHHHHH?
If you watch it closely, almost every classic sequence gets a moment in it. First and Second Doctor vortex, Howell theme's stars shooting out at like 0:11, etc
It's okay. It's too Twilight Zone for me. It's by no means original or unique.
>>87150283
Yeah, maybe "original" wasn't the right word; I think the word I was looking for was "abstract". It's much more visually interesting than "space scene > vortex". Either way it's more of a point I'm making that I'd prefer it if it was more abstract and memorable than generic.
>>87150216
I agree. I think they'll do something as a nod to that era, even if it's just a matter of crediting Bradley as "Dr. Who".
>>87150283
The fuck is your problem, dude? He just posted a title sequence he liked, and you're basically just REEEEEEEEing for some reason?
>>87150599
Different anon but it's not reeeing just because there's a "hell" in there. The link was posted as an example of a new concept, anon is arguing that it's not a new concept, there is no need for this tone policing buffoonery.
Is it true?

>>87150912
>No spoiler tags
But that's the joke, anon...
>>87150713
Thank you for defending me but >>87150599 was sorta right, I put in a little more animosity that I should have. I just have a natural predisposition to get pissy with trips for some reason.
>>87151301
Not that anything that I said in >>87150283 was in any way wrong or incorrect, and not that that trip wasn't wrong.
>>87151301
>>87151339
This is kinda sad, you seem aware that you're being a dick, then your ego flares you make it some weird thing about hating trips. All he did was share his opinion man. It's all any of us do.
>>87150283
This is embarrassing to read, it sounds like a pseud pretending to have seen Classic Who awkwardly trying to assert authority over it. Pretty pathetic to get randomly hostile over someone sharing an ontopic video.

>>87151746
I've never used Tumblr, but I do read a lot of screencaps on Facebook and Instagram. >UHHHHH
in itself doesn't seem very Tumblry to me, though. Not that I'm trying to fight you on that, I'm just genuinely interested in what facets of post seemed Tumblry to you.
>>87151339
>the trip was wrong!!!!!
Let's look at his actual post
>>87150136
>Personally I think
>It's honestly my favourite
Yep, his personal favourite is totally wrong, you got him. He secretly has a different favourite. You're right, "everything that trip said was wrong".
Okay, was Bill better or worse than you expected?
>>87151846
UHHHHH you literally didn't apologise. Point out where you said "sorry", cause I ain't seeing it. You just said that an anon was sorta right you were hostile, then you immediately made another comment assuring everyone you were 100% correct. You literally did not apologise.
>>87151746
Anyone who knew enough about the linguistic patterns of Tumblr to accurately make an accusation like this would have to be familiar enough with Tumblr that it would also apply to them. As such, anyone who posts like this (swap in "Reddit" and it still works) can be safely dismissed as talking absolute bollocks, and trying to start meta shitposting because they have no human thought to contribute.
>>87151934
Your post has nothing to do with Doctor Who. Kindly delete it.
is it MelAnon
>>87151883
Watch out Immigrant. If you post your personal opinion, some anon might REEEEEE and rush to say everything you said is wrong because you're a trip, and they're so super smart. Even when they don't understand what "apologise" means.
To answer your question, much better! She seemed annoying in the trailers, but in the actual series she was hilarious and lovable, and had a very nice vibe going with Nardole and 12. I liked her sci fi comments a lot.
>>87151922
I'm sorry, I took my concession of mine being hostile as apologizing for my rudeness. I openly say sorry to that trip for having been hostile to him.
But everything that I said was right.
he's right about the title sequence though, there's next to nothing original about it except the cramming in of details from all the past sequences, it doesn't remotely compare to something like Hanshaw's in terms of offering a new concept that the TV show would pursue
>>87152273
He's not right, because he's framing what the trip said as a factual argument when it was just his sharing of a personal favourite. Notice he didn't respond to this
>>87151857
>>87152265
You seem extremely insecure. Why do you keep rushing to assert "EVERYTHING I WAS RIGHT!!!!!" over and over and over? We can all read you just fine. Your oh so important opinion doesn't deserve constant repetition.
>>87152265

Please just drop it already, you've thoroughly derailed the thread. Yes, yes, you're incredibly smart and always correct and so much better than a trip. It's so amazing and admirable the things you post and that you do it anonymously. You're so fucking amazing and intelligent, especially the way you lack reading comprehension and don't understand what opinions or apologies are, incredible stuff. You have a massive cock and your constant reminding of us that your opinion is right is totally a secure, alpha move. Everyone here loves you and respects you.

Okay, I know probably nobody here will agree with me but I genuinely think Mel is one of, if not the best, companions. Maybe its because I'm generally a pessimist but I love her constant upbeat optimism and general happy go lucky attitude that contrasts so well with the general moodiness and darker tone of Six and Seven. She just seems so cheerful all the time I can't help but love her. Plus her character gets fleshed out well in BF and we learn she has some strong morals and is actually quite brave in a way her screaming all the time in the show doesn't portray. I really think she's unique in comparison to a lot of the other companions who get despondent and moody at times, or have some drama with the Doctor.

SHIT TRIPS VOLUME 1 REVIEWS:
>Hanky-Panky
Surprisingly touching as a story, I admit the premise and the execution is a lot better than is to be expected. Expanding the essence of the last minute of Time Crash into a full story, Immigrant tells a first doctor story of the first doctor and the advice a later doctor gives them. Theres a female doctor, there's companion banter... Twice upon a time is actually looking a lot less original.
But the companions are really only window dressing to provide greater context to the doctors; no real impact on our plot here. But if Immigrant's aim is to make us take the other doctor seriously, well done. 8.5/10
>Why Fight
Quick chuckle. Ill be damned if I didnt mention the tease at the beginning wasn't a bit more interestimg than the joke though. 6.5/10
>Memetic Upgrade
I struggle on this one. The premise sounds funny, the story itself has the pacing of something more serious. Late 11 is too methodical to have the sort of over the top reaction to that is required to have a bunch of cybermen making a harlem shuffle video.
Still the characterization is spot on, and maybe I just don't have the right humor for it. I don't want to fail it for that. 4/10
Lost Weekend
Meta-Crisis plays disaster dominoes with the Daleks. He's got 10s flair for overdramatic distraction and 9s genocidal urges, in that respect what was put on paper about meta 10 and how the doctor describes him in the episode is more successful.
But that said, how does he manage to still have a wedding after burning the city down? Whu didn't he do more with an alt universe dalek invasion of earth? But I'll give it an extra point for the Terror Firma audio reference. Sneaky. 8/10

Shit Trips 1 reviews 2
>interference
Cathartic has quite a grasp of his characters. All of them crackle to life with brilliant parts to play here, and their story is solely character driven with a well thought out plot that plays like a short peek into a season 6 story.
That said if I had one criticism itd be that I'd like for you to have changed perspectives and given us a glimpse of 2's side of things. The fidgeting madman comes across well in his limited role but it seems to be very interesting what he's doing on his end! 8.5/10
>snoozefest
Quite a funny story actually, and sweet in that way that you can picture how old Matt Smith could be at times when he channeled Pertwee just right.
Space starbucks is a rich idea too. Easily relateable, and great fun; I only wish it was a tiny bit snappier in pacing 9/10
>The dalek killers
An ooc short thats more of a trailer. The 2 second image is blue balls. 2/10

She's okay but they rely far too much on the legacy aspect of her character. So instead of being an interesting character in her own right, she is just a bargain bin Brigadier.
SHIT TRIPS IDEA:
Rewrite a Peter Capaldi Doctor Who episode as a Rick and Morty script. I think this would work best with something like Heaven Sent, but the setting might have to be made more cartoon-y. Rick spends 4 and a half billion years drunkenly punching a diamond wall.
Alternative: rewrite a Rick and Morty episode as a Doctor Who script.
I don't know whether I can be bothered to do this but I thought it sounded neat.
>>87159146
I can imagine Bradley's character having a sort of Chesterton vibe to him
>>87159288
for Heaven Sent (Heaven Sanch-ed?) to work you'd need to change the framework of the story, so say he's just seen Morty executed or something and the whole confession is supposed to be about him confessing that he cares about Morty or whatever, but in the end the script gets around actually having any emotional resonance cos they like to have their cake and eat it too and I think that's a vital stylistic element. Also the Veil would have to be some monster that's trying to put its ass on Rick's face or something, rather than just kill him. Maybe it's trying to get him to lick its balls as a reference to the old Doc and Mharti cartoons.

Over at GB they're trying to argue Empress of Mars, Eaters of Light, World Enough and Time, The Doctor Falls, and Twice Upon a Time are a six-parter because of the Missy tags and how the S10 finale leads right into the Christmas special, lol
>>87161891
>World Enough and Time, The Doctor Falls, and Twice Upon a Time
these can be considered a three-parter in the same way that Name/Day/Time of the Doctor is
>>87161916
ie, not a 3 parter. Related stories /=/ 3parter. It's this weird Classic Who mentality getting stuck on to New Who. TV is just more serialised now, it doesnt mean stories with connections are the same story just cut into different episodes
>>87161968
If S11 is more serialised than usual, it's gonna be funny to see if people try to call all its episodes part of a 12parter, like Daleks Master Plan.
>>87161891

Agreed, that's why I consider season 1 of Classic Who a 42-parter.

Is Face the Raven a three parter with Heaven Sent and Hell Bent?
I was in the 'could be' camp until I actually watched all three back to back, and they just feel too different, even though FTR surely meets the plot requirements in the same way that Utopia did in S3 (the whole plot is engineered to kick off Heaven Sent, and Hell Bent both revisits FTR to stall its climactic event and brings back Me).
>>87163181
the whole "Parter" thing is arbitrary, you can decide for yourself.
*chorus starts chanting in the distance*
>>87163181
Thematically I think Face the Raven links up a lot better with Sleep No More than Heaven Sent and/or Hell Bent. Sleep No More is about Doctor Who breaking down structurally, Face the Raven carries that through to the endpoint of the companion actually dying. Both have bad/sad endings. Both centre around narrative breakdowns. Etc.
But ultimately I agree with this >>87163219

Guys?), and are roughly ten kilometres underwater from whatever might constitute a multiple part story.

Hallo, /who/. I've spent all morning getting through The Scarlet Empress, and I can see why it's generally considered to be one of the highlights of the EDAs. The sort of blend of sci-fi and fantasy of it is really interesting, and I didn't feel like any parts of it dragged on. I also really liked Iris Wildthyme, and her conversations/arguments with the Doctor about... well, canon, I guess. The idea that just because certain adventures can't be quite remembered, or are never really acknowledged, or perhaps took place in a different reality entirely, doesn't mean they didn't happen or aren't valid. I was happy when the Doctor finally came round to seeing things her way. The occasional chapters that were written from a first-person POV were also good fun, and the final chapter was particularly comfy. In fact, the whole book was, seeing as it was basically just a road-trip in a bit of a fantasy setting.
But all that shit is irrelevant:

I loved some of the ideas and the characterization in Scarlet Empress, but the book was a bit thin on plot for me.
I believe it's one of the longest EDAs and the whole story is basically "characters travel around and stuff happens to them, until they stop".
It's one of those stories I liked on an intellectual level but I didn't enjoy reading it all that much, if you know what I mean.

I get what you mean, and in a way, I agree with it. Except for me, it's maybe the opposite way about, wherein I enjoyed that it was more character-focused and less plot-heavy. It had enough story to keep it going and end in an alright confrontation, but its strengths really did lie in the character moments and the fantasy elements explored (even briefly, in some cases), and if you isolated the plot itself, it really wouldn't stand up to much.
For me, my attention begins to wane a bit when a book has too much exposition, or takes so much time to further the overall plot that it forgets to focus on the main characters. There's been a few EDAs that have had chunks of it like that so far, and they've always felt as though they dragged on, only redeeming themselves when they got to some high quality dialogue or character moments. As much as I enjoy worldbuilding, if a story isn't ultimately character-focused, I always come away a little disappointed, particularly if there was good potential for interaction that the author never utilised.
That all said, I still enjoy the EDAs immensely, even those that focus more on plot. Unfortunately, we aren't living in my ideal world, so I'm willing to put up with the exposition (which I still enjoy, really, but in a different way) for those character moments dotted throughout.
That was a really long-winded way of saying: hey i like books

I think characters being overlooked isn't a consequence of the book having a plot, it's a separate problem. In fact, a good plot requires good characters to work properly. Generally, plot can only be interesting if you care about the characters. There's nothing stopping you from having good characters AND a good plot for them to act out as well. The very second book in the series, Vampire Science, does it.

Oh, I know. I wasn't saying that the presence of a strong plot immediately out-ruled the possibility for good character moments, although admittedly I didn't make myself clear with that. What I meant was that a few EDAs so far (though, not many) never managed to strike a good balance between the two, and that's ultimately a problem. Or sometimes they do have that balance but they focus overly much on side characters, which isn't at all a bad thing if done well, I just usually prefer to have the Doctor and his companion at the forefront.
That said, a lot of the EDAs that shift the focus a bit tend to have interestingly written supporting characters, so I end up enjoying them all regardless of what I would've initially preferred. (I remember thinking Option Lock was an exception to this, because all the plot-important characters were astoundingly dull, and it became amplified in the middle when shit hit the fan, but I still look fondly upon the book because the beginning was comfy and it picked up again once it got back to the Doctor and Sam, and the few interesting side characters there were.)
I hope I've worded that all a bit better than I did initially. Basically, my preference for character moments over world-building isn't a desire for one to be replaced with the other, because I know neither would really work for me in isolation, and they're generally at their strongest when balanced against one another.
