Looking retrospectively on series 2, I don't hate it at all. Some stories were questionable, but I enjoyed it. I especially love how the super-silly and SUPER-DARK stories live together within one episode, I like how energetic stories are. Can't hate it.
>>
>>87121916
It's alright, but it's one of those episodes where the monster is the least interesting thing about it.

I had a dream Paul McGann was in Jodie's first series. It was awesome. The companion was technically companions - a family of four, with an A Level student being the main companion, then two younger siblings and their single Dad, played by McGann. Part of the series arc revolved around the mystery of why McGann was there.13 recognised him, of course, but didn't say anything because McGann's character didn't seem to recognise her or know anything about time. Or did he? I don't know, because I woke up. :-(

Ehh, it's a fun look at fandom with some keen points made but I don't really think it holds a candle to some of his other episodes. I'd be interested to hear your opinion though.

Here's a fun series 2 fact people might not know: before Eccleston decided to leave, the plan wasn't that 9 would regenerate at the end of the S1 finale but that Rose would just collapse, wounded from all the Bad Wolf time vortex energy, and 9 would rush her off to the greatest hospital in the universe (in what would eventually become New Earth). The Christmas special was a later idea.

LIKELY STORY! Kek
>>
>>87122695
On a narrative level, "Dr Who" invariably plays things pretty straight, presenting a linear progression of cause and effect, even when it's doing tricky Moffat timey-wimey things. The art usually lies in disguising the plot mechanics so that the story doesn't feel too brazenly constructed. Allied to this, the tone of the piece has to gel with the story; the authorial voice needs to be harmonious with the story. "Love & Monsters" eschews linearity from the offset by introducing a storyteller, and an unreliable one at that. This is Donald Cotton territory -- read the brilliantly witty "Dr Who and the Mythmakers" to see how superb he was at this stuff. Two authorial voices are at work in "Love & Monsters" (and a third is present too, in Dan Zeff) -- the voice of Russell T Davies and the voice of Elton Pope, and together they set the entire tone, which in turn flavours the way the story works.

An example: the seduction scene. We see it from Elton's viewpoint, as he narrates, but he's not the key character in the scene. Jackie is given, at first, semi-mythic status because of her associations with the Dr; then she's immediately humanised through humour (perfectly in character, she makes all the moves); and finally she's made real by the depth she's given when she reacts as a flawed, wounded, vulnerable person. The voice here belongs to Russell T Davies, who refuses to short-change his characters, and uses comedy as a device for us to really get to know them, before infusing drama into the mix.

A fairly reliable spoiler hound says he's heard that Olafur Arnalds is scoring Doctor Who Series 11. Now, that might just be general chatter, given that he's a name who's been bounced around a fair few times, but Chris getting in as many people as possible from his Broadchurch crew - like Sam Hoyle, Jodie, apparently another actor, Ray Holman, etc., etc. - is no surprise.

No, it's going to be shit.
>>
>>87123243
If there's one thing I really, really want from S11, it's an ensemble cast. As far as I can remember, the vast majority of Chibnall's eps have had one, so I'd be shocked if we don't get a proper TARDIS team with 13.
>>
>>87122988

Everyone is just rumourhounding Broadchurch people coming on because it's a decently logical guess, just like Kris Marshall was once.

I think it'll happen eventually but I don't see it happening soon with how much Netflix is pushing larger Black Mirror episode orders.

Screencap this post.

DW Series 11 will be a MAJOR success. 10 mil on opening Jodie episode, it'll be highly critically acclaimed. New OST and intro will be GOAT. It won't be resembling classics tho, something entirely new.
Doctor Who series 11 will have average ratings compared to Game of Thrones, if not higher.
>>
>>87123428
whats so noteworthy about saying "s11 will be acclaimed" that it deserves a screencap? literally thousand upon thousand of people, if not more, already think so

Why cant the doctor just go alone on adventures and help the people he meets along the road? with a possible exception of having characters like the master as a reoccurring character
I find those episodes to be the most enjoyable

also why do all episodes in the past and present have to have aliens? why cant it just be the doctor having fun in the past?

There are loads of stories that do this.

It's a great DVD set! The bluray is annoying because it's not a proper transfer of the original film (they rendered the special effects at standard resolution so to actually transfer everything properly they'd have to go back to the masters, and that ain't happening).

>1. The Starship of Theseus by John Dorney

>The Doctor and his companion, Sheena, land the TARDIS on the glamorous luxury space-liner Theseus just as it’s about to leave the Jupiter space-port. An opportunity for a holiday presents itself – and it’s one they’re very glad to take.

>But when a disturbance catches their attention, they realise sinister events are taking place on board. Passengers are vanishing on every trip. And unless they’re careful they may be next.

>Can the Doctor and Emma solve the mystery? Or is there something else they should be worrying about?

>Sheena
>Emma

Did the name of his companion change, did he pick up a new companion, or is it some sort of clever ship of Theseus twist on his companions changing? Wouldn't be surprised if they end up dying anyway, since Bliss is the main companion for the set.

>>87128671
It does get better, I assure you. S6 (and, to some extent, S7) are generally considered low points of the show - although there is stuff to be enjoyed within them - and after that, when you get to Capaldi's era, the vast majority of it is pure kino.

I recommend just toughing it out through the rest of Smith's run, because you might actually end up enjoying some of it, although if you get properly fed up about it, you could just skip ahead. If you opt for the latter, just make sure you've at least watched The Day of the Doctor (the 50th anniversary special - Matt Smith's still kicking about, but it's a multi-Doctor story) because it's whole storyline has pretty big implications going forward.

It being a Gallifreyan Flower of Remembrance (and therefore, an EDA reference) would make sense, given all that those flowers represent... but it doesn't look quite the same, so who knows. I assume the flower will be mentioned at some point in the audios, or else I don't know why they'd edit it on there, unless it really was intended as a semi-obscure reference.

It's definitely possible, yeah. We'll only know for sure when the audios are released. It'd be fucking cool if it really was a remembrance flower, having yet another tie to the EDAs in BF is always comfy, and the symbolism of the flower in general would be fitting.

No it didn't. The general quality of NuWho's writing has never significantly increased or decreased. Some series are shittier or better than others by a fractional difference in the proportion of mediocre episodes to decent ones, that's it. What people really mean when they say this is that some aspect of the show changed and it upset them.

someone tell me what bullshit plot device they're gonna use to somehow get the doctor to re-incarnate this time.
cause last time they used time lords sending more time vortex energy through a rift in space or whatever, and now they've gotta use something even more retarded than that.
>>
>>87133006
>re-incarnate
>>
>>87133006
What do you mean this time? The Time Lords sent the Doctor a whole new cycle of regenerations. It was pretty clear, the dialogue explicitly stated it:

THE 11th DOCTOR: "Ha! It's started. I can't stop it now. This is just the reset. A whole new regeneration cycle."
t. The Time of the Doctor

>a whole new regeneration cycle
>>
>>87133006
Pretty sure he got a whole new cycle so he can regenerate at least another 10+ times. Hell, no-one in the show from Rassilon to the Master to the Doctor himself are really sure so he could well do it forever.
>>
>>87133006
No they don't boardie. He was given an unspecified amount of regenerations (not re-incarnations because it's the same stream of consciousness) by the Time Lords last time so they don't need to bother with an explanation ever again

All the continuity serves a purpose in the plot, there are no superflous references put there exclusively as a nod to fans. All the ideas are used to tell a new story.
Even so, he doesn't pull it off without some difficulties. There's so much continuity that most of the story is about reminding you of things and almost nothing actually happens until the last episode.
>>
>>87134635
Any other Doctor Who stories you can think of that juggle continuity well like that?
>>
>>87134731
Interference is amazing at that(but thats a two-book story, so it is quite a read)

World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls is a story that I personally think does that very well. Some anons may disagree.

The one story I think does the opposite super well(complete fanwank but I happen to love the story) is The Next Life.

I'm not sure I can think of other stories that are based entirely around continuity to that degree, let alone ones that do it well. I've heard The Quantum Archangel by Craig Hinton is something like that, but it's not one I've read.
Lawrence Miles's books are great, but he mostly uses continuity as a springboard for his own original ideas.

It also deals with Faction Paradox, which were introduced in one of the earlier novels, and they're pretty interesting. As far as I'm aware, if you were interested in reading Interference, you could maybe get away with just reading Alien Bodies before it, but I'd personally recommend the EDAs on the whole. They're really enjoyable, and explore a lot of interesting concepts throughout.

It does, thank you anon. It's alright, though, knowing a plot point is one thing, but reading it and getting an understanding of the full context is quite another. As much as I'd like to avoid spoilers, even when I come across them, it doesn't ruin things for me completely.

Are you reading them on a kindle (like, one of the paperwhite ones) or a screen? I can't bear to read anything at particular length on a phone/computer screen myself, and I much prefer physical books, but a kindle is a great in-between that's comfy enough to use and doesn't hurt my eyes. t. Amazon

Oh, I see. Sorry, I figured you might just be doing what I'm doing and reading them all digitally at first. I want to own them physically myself, but they're expensive and I know that shelling out that sort of money would mean all I'd do with them is keep them sitting on a shelf forever for fear of damaging them. Sadly, I can't offer you any good advice, all I can say is that I hope you'll be able to get your hands on the copies you're missing soon enough, cus they're definitely worth a read.

>>87136276
I'd personally never opt for a phone app over an actual kindle, but it is another option that's available - especially because kindles are pretty expensive nowadays.

Same here, and another great benefit of e-readers is that you can get books for free if you know where to look. My bank account would be in a terrible state otherwise if it weren't for that, though I do try my best to support authors where financially possible.
