When the series started the idea was for Patrick Stuart to use a French accent. They tried this in one take for one scene on the pilot. It was so bad they told him to never do it again and just rolled with his natural British accent instead. He tells this story in a few conventions when-ever someone asks if he ever tried to play Picard as more French. I don't know if I agree. Look at the nx01 bridge. It seems like a good precursor to the TOS bridge, only with a more industrial look. The DSC bridge doesn't look like an evolution to the NX or a precursor to the original Enterprise at all. It's got the industrial look of the NX, but the layout is completely different.

The bridge in Voyager has every station lower and lower the closer it is to the main screen. This way, no matter where someone is stationed, they have an easy view of the main screen, without being blocked out by the other people in the room. This is most important for the captain of course, but it's a generally useful feature.
It's meant to follow the design of theatres in this.
