A big similarity with tulpas is that their personality is "dim". Dougie for example is a below average intelligence overweight man, who indulges in gambling in prostitution. Nobody bats an eye when his IQ drops 10 points.

Same with Diane. While she gives the occasional insight, her favourite response is "fuck you".

The question is, is Tammy a tulpa as well? Like Diane, she doesn't say much / doesn't provide that much insight into anything. She mainly seems to be there for her sex appeal (something which Gordon often comments on and tries to defend), and while looks like a competent agent at times, feels like a piece of furniture at others. There is also the continuity error from last episode, where she's completely absent from a shot when they fire their guns at Diane.

It's constantly alluded to that Gordon knows more about the supernatural than he lets on. Could it be possible that he manufactured Tammy, to spice up his job at the FBI? Unlike the other tulpas, she seems to be a bit more competent and "good natured", but she also feels a bit too flat at times.

I hate Cooper's hair in this. It's not dark enough, and instead of using pomade or brylcreem, they just hairsprayed it back. It's just a small nitpick, but can't help but be distracted by it.

one thing i love about Lynch's work is how I react to his stuff differently when i look back on it, like the atmosphere grows even stronger in my memory
for example, audrey's "GET ME OUT OF HERE!" When i watched it the first time i was just really excited and curious as to what the fuck was going on, but now whenever i remember it i get really creeped out. It's definitely possible, but don't forget the scene where Gordon tells her about the original Blue Rose team. He talks about her graduating top of her class and shit, basically explaining her backstory to the audience.

I don't think she's a tulpa, but I wouldn't rule it out either. I think she's just part of the student/mentor dynamic. It's an organic way for Albert and Gordon to reveal important information to the viewer. Probably also leading to the idea that they'll be passing the torch to her, since they won't be around much longer.

So I'm currently doing an essay on heterotopia in Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet, and one thing immediately jumped out at me about Audrey's awakening. Heterotopia is Foucault's theory of "other" places, which occupy the same surroundings as the dominant spaces (think hospitals, prisons, homes within wider society) but themselves take on a non-physical space which can have a plurality of meanings and functions. Foucault gives an example of a mirror as heterotopia:

When Audrey's dream collapses, she seems surprised that she's been staring in a mirror. She reached "that virtual point which is over there". Therefore I think she wasn't in a coma for long, but is now suffering from a diminished link between dreams and reality, i.e. not realising she's been staring in the mirror the whole time. I think something bad happened with Mr C once she woke up from her coma (maybe BOB took over and raped her like with Diane) and this is the reason for her condition, leaving her trapped in the unreal space, possibly through the influence of the Black Lodge. This parallels Diane's breakdown in Mulholland Drive, where her identity fragments in a non-physical space that occupies a physical space (the titular road, Winkie's, Diane's apartment).

Maybe I'm full of shit but Part 16 felt more traditionally cinematic than some previous episodes, not to say none of them have been but I got a stronger sense of it here. There was a lot of great cinematography, some fantastic framing and quite a few panning scenery shots.

This makes me wonder if the finale is going to feel different from the other episodes, that is generally the case with television shows because that's just traditional television production, you have a very rigid schedule and you probably have a higher budget for your big climax.

Twin Peaks The Return isn't traditional TV though, and Lynch negotiated to NOT have to deal with traditional rulesets for budgetary spending, and that is likely why we have scenes like pic related in a show where Part 8 exists and looks mindblowingly amazing.

This makes me wonder if the finale has a significantly higher budget, if we're going to get something much more "filmic" than the rest of the season. I'm probably just setting myself up for disappointment here but it is very clear that there are huge discrepancies in how money has been spent on the show, even in editing.
