The Ricky Gervais Show, XFM broadcasts of it are available on Youtube. But I started with the animated HBO version which is more condense and concise but once you finish, if you are inching for more listen to the XFM shows. Then watch Idiot abroad, then Moaning of Life, there's something of a narrative arc for Karl coming out of his shell and becoming slightly wiser.

I haven't heard it yet but heard it starts off good then gets bad. Saw a list of songs he played and his taste hasn't changed.

He says he's going to have different guests on every episode, surely he has to get Stephen and Karl. I know Karl said he probably wouldn't do anything with Ricky again but this is a one off thing, Merchant recently said he'd be up for more podcasts.

There's the lighthouse one, about if it's turned off during the day.
The one I hated the most was the Gremlins one. They're talking about Mowgli, Karl goes "what were those things in Gremlins called?" (obviously thinking of mogwais), and Gervais makes a big deal out of it since he believes Karl's thinking about gremlins. He gets corrected later on, but quickly ignores it.
Then much later, he goes "that's the stupidest thing you've ever said, next to 'what were those things in Gremlins called?'".

I get that they're trying to create comedy from what's being said, but this is just being a fucking idiot.

While it is funny, it annoys me a bit that neither of them try to explain it to Karl. It obvious that he doesn't get what it's about, yet Ricky keeps going "it sorts itself out, it's the nature of infinity", as if that would suddenly explain things to him.
Have they read Shakespeare?
>>

so Ive been looking for this clip for a while with no success. Its a time when karl explained something stupid but ricky and steve just decide to ignore him and talk about something else while karl keeps talking quietly in the background and says something like.. 'it was the red card' really quietly

That was one of my favorite clips but I cant remember the context or episode it was in and its really killing me
>>
>>85978050
they're just generally less genial on the podcast, ricky's bullying side comes out a lot more, not as pleasant to listen to

I discovered these shows around 08/09 I think, used to have them on in the background when I played WoW. I have listened to them all multiple times over, and I can still stick them on now and be amused. it's true that it's such a shoddily produced show but their chemistry is so good it doesn't even matter.

plus karl is a bit more genuine in the XFM shows. obviously he isn't a character but he does play up a bit in the TV shows and later podcasts

every few weeks i listen to this series to its entirety within 2-3 days, also you guys have probably seen these already but I only recently found out there's a few episodes of Ricky and Stephen's earlier one (the last few episodes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1RMidAqFuM

I think the collection on TPB has that. I'm not sure though.

the one with the olympics (bike?) race because of Ricky

Amazing. Followed by Karl saying it was at a time when doctors used leeches and stuff, even though the story featured a UK doctor telephoning an American doctor.

What's Karl even doing these days? Retired? I know he must've made some good money from XFM, the podcasts and those travel shows but hardly enough to retire at 45?
>>
Pilkington moved to London from Manchester to work with XFM as a producer. While there, he unintentionally caused Gail Porter to leave the station in tears after only one show: he criticised her performance, which Pilkington says was an attempt to encourage improvement.

"Karl Pilkington, who has worked for Xfm for five years, has been promoted to deputy programme controller. He will continue as head of production, including producing and co-presenting the Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant show on Saturday afternoons."

>>
My comfiest gaming experience ever was when I was trying to grind out a 100% conquered playthrough in Mount and Blade Warband which required endless hours of constant siege battles so I would just put on those hours long compilations of Steve and karl arguing. It was the best.
>>
XFM is pure audio kino. I think it's because it so strongly simulates what it's like to have a great group of friends constantly riffing with eachother. They don't have any respect for the show they are doing whatsoever so it comes off so totally loose as if you literally just recorded them having a conversation rather than presenting.

I wonder if Ricky knows that the XFM shows are by far the best thing he has ever done.
>>
