It was shit. It wasn't funny and there was no point to it other than propping up Summer and shitting on Jerry. That's strike one for the female writers.
>>
>>85711169
I thought it was arguably the worst episode they've made. The lack of humor really made it shitty. I mean I get it, it's suppose to be a darker season, but that doesn't mean it has to have less funny moments.

To make it worse you have women joining the writing staff, and after watching this episode, that couldn't have been more painfully obvious. I feel like they weren't put on their for merit, but because they had a vagina.
>>
get ready for an entire season's worth of faggots pretending the show is shit now because there are two women in the writer's room and seeing SJWs around every corner
>>
>>85711969
Let's hope Jessica Gao does better with her draft. Of course we can't solely place blame on the writer with the writing credit, but they were still the most responsible as far as i'm concerned.

The writer, Jane Becker didn't have any writing experience before this, at least nothing else comes up on her IMDB, but before this she was an assistant to the producers on the simpsons. From there she went to work on this garbage episode.

Jessica Gao has more experience, but she has some pretty awful stuff on her IMDB that she was credited with writing for.
>>
>>85712118
Actually there are four women in the writers room now, and four men. If you look at Jane Beckers twitter she comes off as somewhat of a SJW.

I'm hoping for better next week, but these things can't be ignored.

Nothing. I'm not some /pol/tard looking for feminist propaganda or something, I just thought the show was really funny before and the episode last night wasn't funny at all. It was worse than one of those "non-canonical" shorts they made. It was a waste of 30 minutes of my life.

You could tell that women wrote the jokes for this because it wasn't very funny and lacked a lot of structure and wit that men usually put into their jokes. Women like "Silly" stuff. Or they just think like acting passive aggressive or overly emotional, or speaking their emotions is good or more acceptable.

I'm hoping this was just a dud episode that somehow got throught he radar. I really hope Harmon doesn't give it his normal "more drama" treatment and ruin this fucking show.

The episode was excellent because the consequences at the end of the previous episode drove the motivations and mini-arcs of Summer and Morty. (The divorce making both of them upset so Morty lashes out with violence and Summer trys to fill the void left by her father by dating someone new.) It blended real family drama with silly sci-fi. That's what Rick and Morty does best.

I not only disagree with the folks saying it's a weaker episode, I argue it's actually a stong episode. Excellent job Dan and Justin please continue this level of polish.

Sure? The show has jokes, that are funny. Morty grows a giant arm that kills stuff which becomes therapeutic. His relationship becomes tender hearted. When he's about to kill the scrawny guy he pulls the arm aside and expresses his concern over losing his newfound friend. It's great.

Why are you so mad about this? Did you even watch it?
>>
>>85712871
You see this face?
This is my face when you act like this show has heretofore been highly cultured and exquisitely fashioned, but became silly and inconsequential suddenly in this episode.
>>
I didn't care for it. I don't like watching shows where people argue. Couples arguing is not my idea of entertainment.

Worse yet, since most of the episodes this season are written by women, and since this season kicks off with a divorce theme, I'm willing to bet we're going to get a WHOLE FUCKING SEASON of people arguing.

Gee, swell.
>>
>>85713489
Yes, this is a new direction for this show.
Jerry has always been a strong confident leader.
>>
Classic feminist/marxist operating procedure.

Take something funny and or original created by men, infiltrate it, and destroy it from inside.

Would Rick and Morty have been this popular if it was created by women?

That is the question you need to be aware of.
>>
>>85714486
Did you respond to the wrong post?
>>
>>85712054
Anon do you mind if I summarize your conclusions?

>Rick and Morty is a show that 4Chan has assessed very critically throughout its run
>Episodes are sometimes hit and miss
>An episode comes out, first to be credited to a woman, it's mediocre
>Regardless of any other circumstance, it's probably the fact that she's a woman that caused the episode to be bad
>Women clearly can't write as well as men
>All female writers are only hired for their gender because everyone knows they have less talent

Do you see where the logic fails? This is really harmful pattern of thinking. I don't think a writer's credits have ever been so scrutinized for this show until now, and in my opinion Get Schwifty was much worse than this one. Same with the dog episode, and they were both written in part by the same dude.
>>
>>85714487
Rick and Morty is quickly becoming the new Ren & Stimpy. A wildly overrated show that was intensely popular then completely shit the bed after only two seasons.

I thought that was a pretty solid episode that gave me quite a few pretty hard laughs. 8/10

Also, for the people saying it was underwhelming and such there are a few things to consider such as:

This episode was hyped to all hell
It was written mainly by someone different (Jane Becker) according to the wikipedia (Don't burn me at the stake if I'm wrong about this)
It's not that the episode wasn't good, it's just that the rest of the show is that amazing
>>
Here's how the whole divorce subplot is going to play out:

>Episode 1-7: People arguing. Shouting. Etc.
>Episode 8: Jerry does something to redeem himself and becomes man of the house again, everyone is one big happy family.
>>
>>85714689
I didn't laugh a single time. There wasn't a good joke in the whole thing.
>>
I don't see why people thought this was disappointing. I loved it, and the script was beautifully written, good humor and some points i burst out laughing.

morty confessing his love to beth then suddenly restarting and saying hello made me laugh out loud,

then "Is THAT what they are?" best qoute so far,
followed by the mugging dog. Also another one that got me was
Wanna piss on him?
Get out of my mind!

I like that we seem to be dipping into themes of how to do nihilism correctly and in a, quote mode, "healthy way." end quote mode.

Previous episodes generally only explored it so far as Rick putting forth a persona of being made of stone and nothing mattering but secretly harbouring contradictory opinions by fairly often deciding that some things do matter. Which was fun, but didn't explore the themes much deeper than that. It was less about nihilism as a whole and more about Rick's personal experience with it.

Here, the ideals of the shallow shitty nihilism that Rick practices keep getting explicitly referred to in the context of being shallow and shitty. Hemorrhage briefly suffering a personality crisis when he realises that he's just being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian was pretty great. All the little pepperings of nihilist themes that can't be looked too deeply into on their own but establish those themes as being present in Summer's life right now were fantastic. The irony of a value signifying Jerry's familial relationship with Summer being placed on the words "everything's bullshit" when he's specifically referring to that nihilistic mindset is wonderful.

After this episode established Summer's own experience with nihilism and highlighted a few ways in which it differs from Rick's by holding it up to nihilism as a whole, I hope that we eventually get to see their experiences clash together at some point, and I wouldn't be disappointed if season 3 continued getting deeper into these themes.

Good episode.

Boy, they certainly weren't lying about it getting dark. This was the darkest episode they've written. I see a lot of folks saying mediocre, or just not great. But I think the dynamic was supposed to be mostly sullen, you were supposed to take in the space that morty and summer are in right now. Emotional ambiguity, sadness, and the destructive ways you deal with traumatic events. I'd love to see it go even further where its almost a straight drama for an episode or two.

We've heard this all before. The same kind of stuff was said about "Get Schwifty" and "Interdimensional Cable 2", and yet here we are, with "show me what you got" every other post, and hundreds of hand-made plumbuses of all shapes and sizes.

Ultimately, every episode has had its "not like the others" and "weakest by faaar", but it fades really damn quick. I don't recall any episode being free of this treatment, but that's the way it goes in a world of subjectivity. If we based what we liked on things that get nothing but praise from people, we would all literally like nothing.

I will say though, the way they've been aired so far, episode 1 being so far back, it feels like this episode was a premiere, and that might be where some of the disappointment comes from. It does feel like an episode 2, I'll give it that (not in a bad way imo). They didn't know, while writing, that it was gonna be done like this.

Anyway, all criticism is fair, the show needs it as does any other. It's too damn good, and they need to know that we want it to stay in good quality. However, this jive-ass honky shit about Summer being too out of character? What? Guys, come on.. This is absolutely not out of bounds for this show. "The Purge", do you remember that one? What about all the times Jerry has went from puss to ass kicker to puss to ass kicker?

This wasn't my favorite, I guess, I just don't know how people can think like that. Maybe I'm missing a part of my brain or something. Like, someone here gave it its own number rank and stated it so clearly, with such certainty. A 6.5/10. Lol seriously, how can people do this? It's all so autocratic.

Just imagine! 22 full minutes of Beth and Jerry yelling at each other. So scwifty!

Here's why you're idiots. The whole season is a set up for the redemption of Jerry and you would literally have to be brain damaged not to see it.

Unfortunately, that means we're going to get lots of episodes with relationship drama, with stories written by women, where people spend the entire episode yelling at each other.

It's not funny. It's not fun to watch. It just sucks.

Armthony was the only good part. Fury Road was 2 years ago, Mad Max parodies are played out, and no one cares about Beth and Jerry. It's clear that one of the writers has a divorce hang up and is trying to use the show to air out their feelings, but it comes off as cringeworthy. Why is it that Rick, who's a super fucking genius and able to establish the council of ricks, can't deal with his place in the universe, but Morty can? Yes, Morty is learning to work through it, but Rick should have done so decades ago. Why is the show focused on Sad Depressed Rick instead of Adventure Mode Rick? Why are the writers still in their "dude nothing matters lol" phase?

This show is trying to be intelligent, but the individual hang ups of the writers fucking pisses me off. You have a goddamn multiverse, and all you want to do is focus on hamfisted, boring relationship drama.

Women are unable to conceptualize fiction as something you, the creator, are separate from. That's why women complain that characters having wrongthink opinions in fictional works means the writer believes those things or the actor portraying that character believes those things. They can't adequately separate fiction from reality and it's why fictional work written by women inevitably just has themselves self inserted into the situations and characters. Harmon does the same shit, he's just a terrible person.

They began doing that from the beginning of season 2 (I think). I remember vividly that the show took this stance on feminism, when Rick said to Morty and Summer:

>You're both equally mercurial, overly sensitive, clingy, hysterical, bird-brained homunculi. And I honestly can't even tell the two of you apart half the time because I don't go by height or age, I go by amount of pain in my ass.

From then on, Summer was a part of the squad.

Christina Stead wrote The Man Who Loved Children and that's a favorite of mine. Mary Shelley created one of the most iconic stories ever. Zora Neale Hurston, Jane Austen, the Brontes, Virginia Woolf, Emily Dickinson, Margaret Atwood, Agatha Christie, George Elliot, and many more are widely regarded. George Eliot specifically wrote with that pen name to be taken seriously.

I mean you can say you don't like any of them but I doubt you read much anyway. You probably care too much about making sure the media you consume suits your agenda and current view of the world.

Bill Gates reads fiction. He puts book recommendations out there all the time. Maybe you should take his advice. In fact I'd argue familiarity with fiction is incredibly important to our modern society. Of course you watch fiction though, and probably don't read at all, so I fail to see how that matters. This is a thread about a fictional show.

He also was willing to give up Rick. He's a great character because he teeters on the edge of growing or just remaining the same pussy-ass bitch that won't deal with his own issues. How though? How is the way he's being treated any different than previously? Do you not remember him being berated for sneaking along in Rick's car and literally being dumped off at a Jerry daycare where there was a solid chance he'd be completely abandoned? Meg is characterized by being a punching bag. She is whatever personality or thing the Family Guy writers want her to be in order to JUST be beat up and talked down to. Jerry is still Jerry, but in a predicament where characters have finally made decisions regarding him.

It matters very little. But I understand you have nothing of importance left to say on the main topic, so please bring up a different distraction.

Women can't into funny, but they understand silly and cute pretty well. When they try to roll with the big boys they become nasty and overdo it.
>>
the show feels 80% harmom 20% roiland now. muh nihilism and dealing with parents divorcing by becoming edgy mad max raiders was so edgy and unoriginal. The humor was conversationally based and beyond mundane. I really do think we'll see this show become the reddit meme that it's often accussed of here. I defended it before, but I will no longer.
>>
>>85718937
yeah but there is a severe lack of subtlety present now. The wind whispering "loser" was so lame I literally .rolled my eyes.

>Girls are funny, get over it
>No I can't provide any examples

Real question, because I'm curious. How many people in this thread have parents that divorced at a reasonable or hard "have to deal with it" age (ie, 8-18 years old)? That age span because that seems to be the worst age to deal with it.

I picked up on shit in the episode that was pretty accurate. My mom was cold as fuck to my dad while they were divorcing, and rightfully so.

I think it's trying to become the show that reddit fans think it is, and becoming cringe-worthy in the process.

This is one episode though and I liked the first of the season, so I'm going to reserve most judgement.
>>
>>85719251
I thought the "loser" thing was funny. Mostly because it's probably just in Jerry's head. Kinda reminded me of the couple counseling episode where Beth and Jerry created creatures based on their subconscious views of each other.
>>
>>85719377
If the next two or three episodes are like this Im DROPping this show
>>
>>85719377
true. the first one was really good. maybe this is just the get schwifty of the season. weird that the worst would be shown first but I guess the narrative needs to stay on track.
>>
i just watched it, but i haven't seen most of the madmax movies or dealt with divorce, so maybe that's why i didn't really connect with it. i didn't think it was great, it was fine. hopefully there will be a few really great episodes this season and the rest can be just filler as far as i'm concerned.
>>
>>85719343
yes it hit some cords with me i was 8 when my parents got a divorce
maybe thats why i feel bad for jerry now because he reminds me of my dad getting way too much shit
it made me really sad to see summer not care about jerry and beth being icecold too
weird that it didnt affect me at all in the other seasons i guess the divorce made it too real for me to just laugh at it
>>
As far as homages go, this wasn't an AWFUL one for mad max, but it could've been more original. Still, I liked the muscle memory sideplot. Pretty cute stuff.
>>
Describe to me in a single short sentence what this episode was about and what happened in it.

Yeah, someone has to put Harmon on a short leash, he's getting manic again.

I gave examples. I'm not going to spoonfeed them to you by giving you passages. That's just not worth the effort of digging through books, so I can live with you being dissapointed. Go read from a mentioned author or book. Not to mention that every example given so far was shot down with little reasoning other than "It's not funny so it isn't funny".

Read some books dude. It's not my job to keep you out of the dark. You're alienating like half of humanity. Sounds lonely. Novels might be a good way to attack that.
>>
This is it. Rick and Morty is dead. Honestly I expected it to be dead after Season 1, and while there was definitely some decline in Season 2, it managed to hang on. But now it's dead, it's over, we can all go home now
>>
>>85719678
Rick, Summer, and Morty travel to a post-apocalyptic world similar to mad max in order to find an isotope that works as a power source as they deal with the divorce.
>>
>>85719678
Summer & Morty have murderous adventures to cope with their parents' divorce.

Morty and Summer deal with their parents divorce in their own ways in a post-apocalyptic universe while Rick tries to steal a rock of unlimited energy

You fucking assclowns whining about the evil womynz stealing your precious masculinity away from you are straight-up bitches.
I bet you'll take all of this very real anger out on your mom since she's the only real female you know.

>30 years old

Why the fuck are you still watching cartoons at 30? Jesus dude, especially Rick and Morty of all things. Go start a fucking family and stop living in your little manchild world.

It must suck to be so scarred by your high school years that you have to automatically reject anything that the scary women touch.

That's the main problem with SJWs.
They transformed great sci fi / geeky comedy that you watch at the end of work day and laugh your ass off,
into agenda pushing drama about relationships with some sci fi elements masquerading as comedy with shitty and unfunny jokes.

Too much real life problems in series that was for 2 seasons just a fun adventure with jokes and pop culture references.
>>
>>85719989
>stop living in your little manchild world.

I have an excellent career, just no family or friends since I'm a workaholic.....
>>
>>85719885
Nah, I don't care. Don't trust me if you must. I'd rather you not trust me, and go read a bunch to prove me wrong. But regardless of what happens I can live without bending over backwards for you to change your mind when you've already decided you won't.

Come out of greentext bud you don't have to hide.

I laughed 3 times.
ffs, I can just as well watch Family Guy.

Like when summer wanted to date an alpha, basically turned into Beth, and turned her helmet husband guy into Jerry.

I thought I was the only other person who didn't like Get Schwifty. I'd rather rewatch Schwifty than this episode though.
