I mean, that's totally fair, it's just I've seen people make it out like RTD must be ashamed of the show now, and that they must be bitter enemies or something, which I think is ludicrous. But by all means, your opinions are your own, and I don't want to be making people feel that they're wrong for liking/disliking a certain version of the show. Fandom is a personal thing, you do you. :)

I'm happy that he's happy with his decision, and while S9 very much felt like a final statement on Doctor Who, S10 has been a nice "epilogue" in a lot of ways. Certainly he couldn't continue like this, he's said all he has to say. But then...the Capaldi era, after he'd gotten all his long fanheld ideas out of the way with Matt, felt so rich as he actually pushed himself in how to push the show forward too. I won't lie, I would have been very very intrigued by a S11 he wasn't interested in writing - would he have retreated to cynicism, finally? I don't think so but I think something more would have cracked somehow. S9 validated the central premise of the show, but there are still some underpinnings he never examined. What could have been...but I'm happy with what we've got, in any case. This has been Doctor Who as I always wanted it, and it's perfectly appropriate for it to go be Doctor Who as someone else has always wanted it now.
>>85517930
I remain so fascinated by his very blatant explicit calls for Doctor Who as a very family-friendly positive show, and his actual writing which often superficially seems the opposite. Largely because he actually takes the show seriously, not cynically, or not blithely. He actually engages with it to the best of his abilities and it's interesting how that gets read.

If Moff listened to S4 of the audio EDAs, he'd be livid (f w i w, while I like To the Death, it shares a lot of problems with Moff's S6, glossing over emotional truths in favour of spectacle and shock).

I also love how he talks about multi-Doc specials as having to actually earn the premise instead of just being fanservice.

It's one thing to not like the S6B stuff, but from the way Moffat talks about it it almost makes it sound like he hasn't even heard of S6B.

I guess he just didn't want to bog down the interview with something so esoteric.

I don't get the hate for Adric, Just starting Earthshock now, and I completely sympathise with his 'whining'. He's treated like shit by everyone in the TARDIS, Doctor included, when he makes the simplest mistake despite the fact Tegan and Nyssa do far worse. Also I enjoy a companion actually criticising the Doctor instead of just blindly fawning over him like usual.

Can someone explain why he's disliked?

Adric's attitude is very much a male youth thing, you relating to it isn't strange or unusual or bad or anything. It's all a matter of what character you're relating with. Adric's points themselves aren't necessarily wrong at all, but the way he communicates them is something that makes sense for younger folk but is enormously irritating for older folk.

Question About The Direction of the Show (do i spoiler warning here?)

So I thoroughly enjoyed this season. I feel like Capaldi had a hard time finding the balance of a "mean" demeanor with the overall "kindness" of the Doctor paradigm. But I think he finally nailed it and got it completely. I was completely sold on the beginning of his regeneration process.

He was very adamant about not wanting to go (alot like 10 was), and even states he will "never change again". I may be wrong so I do apologize, but don't time lord's have 12 regenerations like the hands of time? That would mean this is his last of his FIRST set... I say first set because when he was 11 the time lords frozen in the alternate galifrey pocket universe managed to give him more regenerations.

With the Master stating in The Fall of the Doctor "Is it just going to be a bunch of women in control now" which was humorous, but seemed to be where the show was going. With Missy testing the waters with the appearance of a female time lord incarnation, it was inevitable that the doctor would eventually change into a female...but my question is this.

With all the issues people have had with the whole "gender" thing, why not have 12 be the END of THIS doctor and let "13" essentially be the 1st Doctor in a new series of 12 regenerations. Maybe take the show in a very female lead direction (which I would ultimately be okay with because the two would be seperate entities... It would alleviate all the fuss and hubbub about the gender issue and actually make sense).

TLDR: Will 13 essentially be a "1st Doctor" in an all new set of 12 regenerations? Possibly all female? Side note - I can't wait to see what Whitaker does with the role.

No, Capaldi was the first in the new set. Jodie would be the second.

The initial set was:
>Hartnell/Hurndall/Bradley
>Troughton
>Pertwee
>T. Baker
>Davison
>C. Baker
>McCoy
>McGann
>Hurt
>Eccleston
>Tennant
>Smith

For a total of 12.

Actually they have 13 incarnations but 12 regenerations. You're right though, Capaldi was the first of the new set. It should be:

>Hartnell/Hurndall/Bradley
>Troughton
>Pertwee
>T. Baker
>Davison
>C. Baker
>McCoy
>McGann
>Hurt
>Eccleston
>Tennant
>Tennant (again)
>Smith

For a total of 13.
>>
>>85519910
>why not have 12 be the END of THIS doctor and let "13" essentially be the 1st Doctor in a new series of 12 regenerations.
That sounds like it would be kind of meaningless and not solve anyone's problem. Even on a new cycle of regenerations, it's still the same person and they're still the lead character of the show.
If you tried to imply it was a different character and the old one was dead, you would upset far, far more people.

The extra regeneration was specifically confirmed in Matt Smith's final episode to have come from when David Tennant shot his regeneration energy into his hand.

No, the Three Doctor's special was where the first three Doctors of Hartnell, Troughton, and Pertwee meet.

By the time of the 20th anniversary, Hartnell had already died, so he was recast, and the First Doctor in that special was Richard Hurndall

By 2017, Hurndall has already died, so the First Doctor was again recast to be played by David Bradley, who already portrayed William Hartnell in the docudrama An Adventure In Space And Time.

Series 6 is the worst season ever. How anyone can defend it is beyond me.

Russel T. Davies (with his creation of Torchwood and everything he did) was a masterpiece.

Moffat was good when he made separate horror like episodes but once he took over the pacing is some of the worst I have ever seen in a tv show.

Episodes like "Let's Kill Hitler" that have nothing to do with Hitler but instead is to do with a robot.

That episode where 11th Doctor is in some kind of haunted hotel but the whole episode isn't even scary and it spends so much time on bland characters that make you want to skip the episode.

River Song is the worst female lead I have ever seen. Every time she appears I want to skip the episode because she is so down right annoying.

Billie Piper, Martha Jones were 10/10 companions.

Clara was meh but I did like Bill and wish she did one more season with Capaldi.

And to get my point across: remember when Doctor Who was this good and the music sent you shivers up your spine:

Series 6 had 4 classic legendary episodes:
-The Impossible Astranout
-Day of the Moon
-The Doctor's Wife
-A Good Man Goes to War

And plus a few really good ones. It is less than sum of its parts due to immaturely constructed overall arc but if you averaged each episodes scores, it'd be one of the highest.

Tochwood, except from CoE is an abomination that the entire fandom wishes to forget. And we are doing a good job at it, no thanks to you.

Billie Piper with Rose was literally unwatchable. RTD's Master was a joke, Moffat singlehandedly managed to give Simm's Master some grace in the history of Who last season.

>No one can refute me that Russel T. David is miles better and Moffat fucked up the show
Keep believing that post 2010 is a good show because it's not
>>
>>85521443
>Series 6 is the worst season ever. How anyone can defend it is beyond me.
The season arc was godawful, yes. But people can defend it because of The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, The Doctor's Wife, The God Complex, The Girl Who Waited and to some extent the Rebel Flesh two-parter. These were all good-tier to god-tier.

>Russel T. Davies (with his creation of Torchwood and everything he did) was a masterpiece.
Torchwood was shit. No, having guns and edgy nudity doesn't make your show "adult".

>Episodes like "Let's Kill Hitler" that have nothing to do with Hitler but instead is to do with a robot.
Not only are you cherrypicking, but out of everything that is wrong with that episode, the fact that they used a misleading title is your biggest criticism?

>That episode where 11th Doctor is in some kind of haunted hotel but the whole episode isn't even scary and it spends so much time on bland characters that make you want to skip the episode.
Holy fuck I hope you're baiting.

>Billie Piper, Martha Jones were 10/10 companions.
How the fuck was Martha Jones a 10/10 companion holy shit

>And to get my point across: remember when Doctor Who was this good and the music sent you shivers up your spine:
Cherrypicking again, but yeah that scene was great and the music has declined over the years.
>>

you can't actually unironically throw around 10/10s that easily or your rating scale is completely broken

This has got to be the biggest troll post I have ever read on /tv/

I am sorry you have something so wrong with you

>The Doctor's Wife
One of the worst episodes ever. River Song is a disgrace to the show

>>
>>85521735
No you are the nice meme. Torchwood season 1-2 are brilliant. Rose with the 10th Doctor is brilliant, John Barrowman is one of the best things about the new Doctor Who.

How you think Series 6 is actually good and Moffat is better than Russel...

I really feel sorry that your mind is so disturbed to not appreciate something good
>>
>>85521013
Every response here is aids.75%+ who are fans. Started with series 1 episode 1 "rose" which aired in 2005. The. Classic series aired in 1963 and is not necessary at all, you may want to watch it at some point but there is literally zero reason to start with it
>>
>>85521591
now that's what I call inflated ratings

Damn I knew there were contrarians on there but I didn't know it was this bad.

People like you are gonna watch Citizen Kane and criticise everybody who likes it because "it's just the dominant narrative".
If having contrarian opinions is how you shape your personality then I kind of pity you.

Honestly, as much shit as he gets, he was a victim of bad writing and bad choices forced on him (he wanted a totally different costume for example). He's by far the best Big Finish doctor and you can tell from his voice acting that he does love the role. He was set up to fail in the show.
