I think what they were doing in this scene on a metaphorical level was showing parallels between generations. Shelly and Bobby's kid is like them, bad with men, quick to anger and violence, and impulsive. The kid in the car with the gun is just like his parents, and in the case of the honking woman, Everything she says is useless, the way she honks is the same as the way she speaks, loudly incessantly, without cease. Her words, or her language, are like so much vomit and sickness. On a literal level, Red has become a sort of Moloch/Baal figure, a seducer and destroyer of the young, replacing Bob in that role prior. I actually think Red is more like a Windom Earle than a Lodge spirit, but its mostly the same for these purposes.
