I can't think of too many Weird Fiction series. I guess X-Files is sort of one, but not as ontologically strange as Twin Peaks.

True Detective Season 1 is bordering on Weird Fiction in a vaguely Lovecraftian sense, which again differs as is very apparent from Lynch's. True Detective is more of a cold abject atmosphere of nihilistic revulsion.

Twin Peaks is more like some kind of post-ironic Animistic universe populated by walking genre archetypes blending into reality and other-dimensional spiritual entities.

I met Mark Frost at a bookstore once. I recognized him and decided to say hello and that I enjoyed Twin Peaks a lot. He asked if I had read his book and I said not yet but I did buy a copy, to which he said I should get a move on because it might be important very soon. This was before the return was announced so I had no idea what he meant, but we had a chuckle over my reaction since he thought he might have freaked me out a little. He said to trust him, things are happening soon. While I was leaving I gave him a wave but he was busy talking to a teenager. I was pretty hyped after that and the return has been great so far, pretty good experience overall.
