hello? is this thing on?

Dunkirk is kino, and I mean that in the non-memey, dziga vertov definition
There are very long sequences with almost no dialogue that feel like a first person account of a war rather than a narrative. I never expected a movie like this from Nolan

would you say, bravo nolan?

Were you the anon who asked for a list of 2010 films the other day?
>>
>>85376458
Not gonna lie, you have bad taste and if you posted your profile it would prove me right.
>>
>>85377658
I haven't posted in a long time on /lbg/ sorry, not me, been mostly trolling DC and Marvel cucks when I actually post here just for the lulz. The bait is just too easy but it makes me laugh so damn hard.

On a serious note, would love some solid 2010+ kino picks.

You have bad taste, Dunkirk is a good film. Blind allegiance to "Nolan hate fuck reddit" is sad!
>>

copypaste from last time someone asked:

The Turin Horse
Once Upon a Time in Anatolia
Only God Forgives
Hard to be a God
Pain & Gain
Androids Dream
#Horror
Lowlife Love
>>
>>85377956
Is that you, Synt, giving me shit? x fucking d.

I have most of those already reviewed or watched and rated on my page, the only one that holds me up is 'Pain & Gain'. Sell me that one, I'm curious to hear the overall consensus. Not judging by any means, just admirably curious.
>>
>>85377893
No one mentioned Reddit and here you are already defending it and Nolan. Turns out you didn't even need to post your profile to prove me right.

My posts are so powerful it makes my victims confess the truth about their awful taste.
>>
>>85378141
I'm afraid I was only the guy who asked about the list, no shit flinging from me.

And yeah I see that now, that's cool. How come you're into 2010 films in particular? And how did you find out about Lowlife Love?

Pain & Gain is great for a few reasons.

For one, I believe that it's one of the only true black comedies to come out in a very long time. Mostly the genre is just mistaken for edgy shit or taboo, but I feel a more accurate definition would be to find humour in something that is straight up morbid. I see a lot of reviewers complain that they didn't like the characters/found them and their actions too unpleasant to laugh at, but for me that's where it shines. You laugh at the entire situation in ridiculous it is, rather than trying to find an emotional anchoring in the characters. It's quite misanthropic.

On top of that, the themes of gym culture and posturing being informed by small men with entitlement issues is a subject that I would never expect from Michael Bay, nor would I expect him to then link that to American ultra-patriotism in a way that puts it in a bad light.

Technically the film's great as well, I quite like Michael Bay's controlled but always moving camera, I think it does well to put the actors in a sense of space - lots of slow motion shots of people flying/jumping through the air that again reminds me of the ultra-macho ad campaigns that you see sports stars do. You get a sense that is to then draw a comparison between the characters of Daniel Lugo (Whalberg) etc. and their superficial deification of the human 'form'

Basically it feels like Michael Bay's most self aware film and I feel that it shows a truer side to him. If I recall correctly he's quite secretive about himself and his politics, but he's very upfront about his brand in a very businessman like way. I suspect it's because he wants to maintain his macho illusion, but this film may have been his opportunity to explore some slightly more subversive stuff.

Have you seen the entire show? I was wondering how the later/final seasons are. I've only watched the pilot so far.
>>
>>85383253
This is my second time going through the series, first in HD. I think season two is the weakest so far, with some really dumb/weak episodes, while season three (the first without Mann) has been uniformly strong. I suppose the later seasons have some ridiculous plotlines, like when Crockett marries a singer who gets killed and when he loses his memory and think's he's his cover, Burnett, and maybe it runs out of steam a bit during S05, but overall it maintains and is worth watching, if you're inclined.

The numbers are arbitrary to me, because what makes one 8 better than another? It's just a general rule of thumb than a hard guideline, think of it as very lose and open

I fucking loved Blackhat. I'm bound to watch the rest of his films, but, yeah, despite a lot of things not being memorable, I enjoy that movie.
