>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, Whittaker 13th Doctor) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

WE need more entries for classic as well as NuWho Doctors. Entries for Thirteen are accepted as well.

>>85213995
That's very interesting.
I see that they were both excited to be there but for very different reasons. Clara, as I said in that earlier post was a thrill-seeker. She After S7 where she was more plot device than character. One of her defining characteristics was how addicted she became to adventuring with the Doctor.
Bill on the other hand was much more reserved. She was wary of the dangers of their adventures which is the exact opposite of Clara. She was fascinated with it because she wanted to see and learn about the universe.
They both represented different aspects of the Doctors personality, Bill was his curiosity and Clara was his adventurous spirit.

I guess I'm thinking of episodes that show cased the actor in the Doctor's role. Girl who Waited show cased Karen Gillan's acting (and to a lesser extent Arthur Darvill's), but not in particular Matt Smith. The Stonehenge scene show cased Matt Smith's acting more imo.

Similarly, Midnight for Tennant.

Girl who Waited was a great ep btw. One of my faves to rewatch.

its a gem in an otherwise mediocre run for a Doctor, really pulls on the heart strings and reveals the horrors of time travel technology when it goes wrong, the episode might have been better had the episode just ended with the older amy not dying off and instead telling the doctor and rory to leave her
>>85214905
i didnt like the whole "this is a time travellers child that goes to the end of the universe" bs cause its both unexplained plot shit from the clara danny stuff and also reuses the plot from utopia, great episode, really scary idea seeing as it relates to real world existence.
>>85215046
if we're using acting chops as the parameters as opposed to overall episode quality then family of blood would be tennants and matt smiths finale episode (or maybe rings of akehten?)
>>
>>85215046
Midnight is dumb, all the characters are idiots
>>
IMO S6 is broken because Amy and Rory's relative lack of reaction to the traumatic events of the midseries finale is just so alien and impossible to relate to that it makes all the stories in the second half feel so disconnected and clinical. It's a shame because The God Complex and The Girl Who Waited are fantastic episodes...in a vacuum. Moff really improved on this sort of stuff eventually, but S6 is just so impossible to connect with because it's so alien. The "Mels" thing is the most sad cop-out I've ever seen Moff pull. I was never able to really connect to Amy and Rory again after that midseries finale. They never felt human again.
>>
>>85215166
>S6 is just so impossible to connect with because it's so alien

The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex fit where they are very well, being highly downbeat and melancholy takes on their relationship with the Doctor. It's basically just Night Terrors (which was swapped to the second half of the series after it was shot) which is out of place.

>>
>>85215277
I get what you mean, and I agree to an extent, but I just personally don't think any Amy and Rory story post Good Man Goes to War works. They never have any meaningful reaction to the trauma of that story, and it's handwaved with the cheapest move Moff ever did in "Let's Kill Hitler". They stopped feeling like people to me and it severely dulled the impact of otherwise great episodes like God Complex and Girl Who Waited.

Night Terrors is definitely worse of cause it's such a clear 6A adventure yeah.

Did you ever watch the prequel to Let's Kill Hitler where we hear Amy calling the TARDIS? Moffat made a huge mistake in not integrating that into the series proper somehow. Let's Kill Hitler in general needed to be reconceived and redrafted from scratch.
>>
>>85215354
I don't inherently hate the idea, but it needed to be handled better. Either properly commit to them grieving about effectively losing their baby, or change the story to make it less traumatic. Even something like an episode timeskipping through them raising a baby River then having that River captured as an adult would have worked better. Anything that made them seem like actual parents.

>>85215389
Might do an 8/War/9 thing, I have a few ideas...

How are you supposed to react, though? No-one's ever lost their baby only to immediately find out that she's alive, happy, and right in front of them as an adult woman who they're already friends with. It's fundamentally incompatible with the human experience of parenting.

>>
>>85215584
Very true. If you did an edit that just played all of that scene, a black screen for about 10 seconds, then cut straight to the ending of the special where 11 reunites with the Ponds, you'd have a solid little minisode.
>>
>>85215504
I love Matt's performance FWIW, and I liked S5, and loved the 2013 specials (I'll defend Time of the Doctor anyday, I think it's absolutely fantastic). And Moff more than redeemed himself in my eyes by his great character writing in Capaldi era.

>>85215567
Night of the Doctor is one of his greatest achievments after all

>>85215578
Then it's fundamentally incompatible with the humans at home watching it. They were still robbed of the experience of their baby, raising her, and if Moff wanted to crib more from real-life parallels he could have gone more for how biological parents go after meeting their children as adults. But it's all breezed over and joked over and it's a mess to me personally.

I was just about to say this to the guy who was talking about Rings of Akhaten. It's tough to find a Heaven Sent equivalent for the other Doctors because you need an ep where the Doctor gives an incredible performance and the ep itself is also GOAT. Usually you just get the one. 11 especially had many episodes where he was on form but the episode dragged it down.
To be fair though, The Doctor carrying the writing is basically how Doctor Who works a lot of the time

In hindsight Matt leaving was the best for both parties. Moff was running out of juice for his run and Matt probably realized that another season wouldn't make things any better.

Moff ended up reviving himself with Capaldi and Matt's getting more roles thanks to his success from Doctor Who. Honestly whatever people say, Moff's Doctors are in my top list.

There's no guarantee he was aware of 12's contribution, a better point would be the Curator and even so 11's whole run is characterised by the idea that "time can be rewritten" and the future isn't guaranteed.

To be fair it was supposed to be the very last day of the war. But also its an impossible task. There's no way to accurately depict the Time War. Definitely not on Doctor Who's budget
>>
>>85216625
The Doctor isn't allowed to have any complexity to his character, going back to using the Moment and genociding both races and making the same choice again would have given a too-realistic moral of "what I did in the past made me the person I am today".

You mean the one that the episode goes to great pains to stress?

As in employing careful memory wipes JUST so that the development of the character isn't undone or invalidated?

I like to think that during the 3rd Doctors run, UNIT created the Under Gallery and had employed a curator nothing big, just a guy with a little bit of info about aliens but ultimately just a desk clerk compared to someone like the Brigadier . 3 would have met this man at some point and perhaps, being still new to regeneration (this being his second actual regen) maybe based the face of that man?

This is backed up but colin baker being in a 5th doctor story, and 12 literally basing his face off of someone he once met.

10 and 11 yes, but not War and 9. For War and 9 they were still expecting 13 doctors, because meta-crisis hadn't happened yet.

Each cross over is remembered only by the furthest incarnation of the Doctor present. If 2 and 4 are in the same room, only 4 remembers. If War, 10, and 11 are in the same room, only 11 remembers. If 1-12 are in the same room (or at least communicating) then only 12 will remember. So therefore 11 doesn't remember 12 being there- only the other 10 doctors.

True, but Moffat did make jokes like "I can't wait for the Queen to be played by a man" so
>>
>>85217569
besides I hear sex changes are all the rage with the kiddies nowadays
>>
>>85217421
Broadchurch is Netflix Original level production quality, it's great. Shot in anamorphic lenses, plenty of crane shots, and great direction. Given that the teaser for Jodie was shot with an anamorphic lens and was in 2:1 aspect ratio, the same as Broadchurch, I'd say he's going with that.
I like Talalay's direction, but in all honesty - it feels cheap. Like an indie film production, not a blockbuster series. Plus, I really hate her obsession with blue color grading. Not that it doesn't have its own appeal, but I think in terms of sheer production value, it's not great.

RTD was /ourguy/ all along, and his era of Doctor who was overall better than the rest of new who (even if wildly inconsistent)

>>

That was 2008. If RTD said that today he'd get just as excoriated as anyone, although he was clearly being a bit flippant

I'm sorry, do you not remember the fat fart aliens and the absorbaloff?
>>
>>85217538
stop it
>>85217495
I don't remember the other Doctors doing it as much. Maybe it's because Moffat's became so repetitive. They all had the exact same formula, it became a chore.
>12 mentions a historical figure
>cue to sit there and wait for him to say they were great then say what activity they did together

See:
>Beethoven. Nice chap. Very intense. Loved an arm-wrestle
>Brothers Grimm. Lovely fellas - they were on my darts team
It was like Moffat just had a template for whenever The Doctor mentioned an historical figure
>>
>>85217641
> his era of Doctor who was overall better
Is that why he only has 2 good seasons?
>>
>>85217593
yeah that was stupid but he got a lot of shit for it

I think that was because he was defensive about casting Capaldi, that was the next Doctor announcement iirc

before then he wrote into McGann's regeneration minisode that the Doctor could have become a woman

then he proceeded to write the Master as a female incarnation and included a line in the S8 finale that the Doctor could go be a king or queen on gallifrey
>>
>>85217152
That's alright. Moffat basically used the gimmick of the Doctor's not remembering to write the 50th and Time.

Forgive Dave.
>>
>>85217707
"Stop it"? Reminds me of the time I met Jane Austen - brilliant writer and, strictly between ourselves, a phenomenal kisser.
>>

This reminds me of that time I met Charles Manson. Bit intense, but a great tap dancer
>>
>>85217762
And an excellent Bass player- the Doctor really knows how to put a band together

Was there a push or was she suggested for the role? I don't remember this at all.

He'd be a great Doctor desu. Same goes for Bob Geldoff IMO. Roger Daltry was actually fantastic in the higlander series, kind of being a companion to the highlander. I really need to rewatch that show sometime. Super comfy.

I make no excuses for love and monsters, atleast like how they take the piss out of it in S4E12, we need some cheesy monsters to take the piss out of in doctor who
>>85217713
series 1 kino, series 2 was overall good, series 3 had really bad writing but good themes (worst of his series), series 4 is great (even if a little dull), planet of the dead was good, waters of mars is awesome, his finale was shit but had a great last 20 mins and good themes to do with the timelords. All his christmas specials were good, I don't see the big complaints apart from with series 3 and a few outlier episodes

See, it's always the exact same formula.
It triggers me, why do they always two perfectly short facts to add on to this person when they namedrop them. They even say it the same way too, with the same cadence.
It takes me out of the show every time, no normal person talks like that. And definitely not several different characters doing it the exact same way

No the worst series is series 2
>The Idiots Lantern
>Love and Monsters
>Fear Her
Whereas the bad episodes in S3 are
>Daleks in Manhattan 2 parter
>The Lazarus Experiment
S2s worst is much worse than S3s
S3 has more great episodes as well
My favourite Tennant episode is in S2 but on the whole it is pretty rubbish

I would like to see you attempt to write an entire Doctor's era about being a woman.
>>
Good to hear about the merchandise and book deals, quite lacking in the Capaldi era. Feels really exciting, like the show's going to be everywhere again. Say what you want about Chibnall's previous episodes, but I think he's going to be a good showrunner, I know it's not reallly comparable, but Broadchurch was good and it was massive.

>>85218128

Maybe. I'd just assumed Moffat's leaving do was Capaldi's too.

yfw Series 11 has a moody and atmospheric soundtrack by Ólafur Arnalds.
>>

>>
>>85218318
It was massive in the UK. There was a US adaptation called Gracepoint made, but it wasn't great.

Here's a bit of a fallacy I found in Death in Heaven;

Missy is dangerous, and UNIT knew she had devices on her, yet only Osgood took one of them off her - she's seen with a bracelet that can control the Cybermen.

So if they were a credible organisation wouldn't it have made sense to strip her whilst she was knocked out to ensure she couldn't escape? She's a valuable prisoner, you don't want to leave her dangerous.

We could've got a rear nude scene from Michelle Gomez - they can do it with Matt Smith, so why not her? Shame, really.
>>
>>85218227
I just wouldn't have cast a woman in the first place. I'm not even that adverse to the idea but it's gonna kill the show.
>>
>>85218194
I'm fine with that being the post-regen episode in fact, I kind of want it but if that becomes the entire show, I'll probably tune out and binge it later.

>>85218268
A Christmas Carol was amazing.
It was the first Doctor Who episode I ever saw and I couldn't believe that everything that happened could happen in a single show, let alone a single episode.
>balancing sentimental, comedic, and dramatic scenes
>The Doctors range: going from intimidating old Kazran to cheering up young Kazran and everything in between
>Time travel that was part of the plot, not just for establishing location
>Riding a shark-pulled sleigh
I was instantly hooked

I'm saying it's still going to be Doctor Who, because "the entire era is about being a woman" is fundamentally impossible when you have to do things like come up with ideas for episodes and arcs to fill out a series.
>>
>>85218318

The finale of Broadchurch got over 11 million, The Doctor Falls got just 5 million (it sounds bad when you put it that way, but Doctor Who has never not been in the top 30 most watched shows each week since 2005)

After the finale of the first series, it made the front page on quite a few papers, reminded me of all the hype of Bad Wolf at the time.
>>
>>85218078
Seems like a fun book.
>>85218098
Why not both? Either can't be too expensive to produce. Confidential is one camera and a voice over pretty much, and how much is Cristel Dee and Co.'s salary really? I'm with you though I'd prefer confidential.
>>85218129
Who said I didn't? I don't even know who's there or if it's even an actual thing. I don't use it because it's just one more tab I have to have open, and for the most part I don't see much of a point, like there's nothing that I could or would say that I wouldn't mind /who/ witnessing. I already have twitter and skype, if whoever wants to talk to me outside of /who/ for whatever reason, can just HMU there.
