It just seems awful to participate in a community with people, the only reason to write criticism is to gain status. Heck, that's the only reason to put anything into the public sphere. If I'm not important, why the fuck do I want to bump pussies with all the other unimportant people? Also, doing anything that can be traced to me individually then linking it to 4chan would be like running into a women's shelter naked with a dotted line drawn around my cock.
>>85168407

Choose Letterboxd. Choose films. Choose downloading the app. Choose paying money for a membership just so you don’t have to see some fucker adding 500 films to their watchlist. Choose following a few thousand people and then never reading a fucking word they say. Choose writing “Read the full review on my website!” knowing full well no cunt is ever going to follow that link. Choose asking Sally Jane Black to watch Rogue Nation and then seeing her do a Chantal Akerman marathon instead. Choose mithering the cunts on Twitter that you can’t get your lists to work. Choose refreshing it seven dozen times in the evening because it’s fucking broke again. Choose getting death threats over your opinions on Everybody Wants Some!! Choose watching some shit you never wanted to watch in the first place because you put it in some project you agreed to that no fucker cares about. Choose writing “Embargoed” because you got to see some Sundance wank three days before everyone else can see it at a proper cinema.

OGF was in my opinion at best a 6/10, although I'd like to give it the benifit of the doubt as my own preferences are very far from what's to be found in refns films. Tbh I find his movies to be quite self-indulgent of his own violent fantasies, and lacking much depth beyond that. You could argue that's the experience of his films though.

Maybe I used hyperbole. It did not suck ass. There is much to see in this film such as the technical aspect, it also really does put you in the situation of the events. There is a part where some planes do a bombing run and it's really quite fantastic the way the sound creeps closer ultimately making you feel like you yourself are going to be blown up by shrapnel. I also always appreciate Nolan's practical and realistic approach.
However when I was watching this film in 70mm (great btw) I had this sense of watching a documentary. The film follows these characters in a narrative sense but it's more a sequence of events that happen. There are no characters that make this a battle worth saving. The characterisation in this film is frustratingly simple. One could argue that Nolan was simply trying to put you in situation of the characters and the focus was not necessarily on the characters but rather the heroic rescue of the soldiers from the beach. But to me it was hard to connect with this situation and it was a tad boring.
Nolan does excel at pacing which is also why his films can appeal to many people. He keeps us always interested by always having some tension to every scene. But hear in lies my biggest issue with this film. IT WAS EXHAUSTING. Non stop tension matched with Zimmer's score was bluntly boring and nerve wracking. The film was excessively full with sound and tension so much to the point where I started to think surely this must be leading to something very tense in the end. But the film presented this brownish plate of tension that had no payoff. I would recommend this film as a learning experience of the events of dunkirk beach but not for a film enjoying experience.
I've seen people praise Tom Hardy for his authentic role. But he literally played " guy in plane." The range of emotions we got were blank solider guy for the whole film. Sure all the other players did their job. Mark Rylance was good.

I liked The Dark Knight and Memento, but I find most of his movies to be overlong. I appreciate his use of practical effects, more than anything else he does. Interstellar was a big miss for me. I find his characterization lacking most of the time. His films lack humanity. I also couldn't stand the overbearing score. Too serious, most of all. Too "epic". I'm not quite sure what it is, other than it seems to me to be such an obvious break from reality that I can no longer empathize with his characters.

Griffith was a master of the epic and the intimate. He always highlighted his sunplays with comedy amidst tragedy along with tender moments of kinship

And that's also why it's okay if you loved it. Because it does have that power, if you have the right context. It can be sweet, or empowering, or a relief, or satisfying. If this is something you've waited for your whole life or if this has room for you or if you can note the better-than-average inclusivity of the main cast or if you cheered her march through No Man's Land, that's fine, that's great, I appreciate your enjoyment of the film. But understand too that what you got to enjoy is denied to others, and that's why I demand more.

In other words, they are the perfect antagonists for a PG-13 war epic, their absence allowing this story of panic and isolation to celebrate Britain’s past while also condemning its Brexit-era present. They are the galvanizing force behind a cinematic oxymoron, a virtually bloodless but profoundly unnerving assault on the senses. Cleaving closer to Sartre than Spielberg, “Dunkirk” is a stunning work of raw spectacle that searches for order in the midst of chaos. It’s the most contradictory film that Christopher Nolan has ever made, and — not incidentally — also the best.
I’ve watched “Funny People” more times than I care to count (fun fact: Judd Apatow movies comprise roughly 40% of all cable television programming), but it never occurred to me that Apatow’s raw, shaggy, desperate masterpiece of a third feature was inspired by “The Great Gatsby.” For some reason, I didn’t automatically make the connection between The Great American Novel and a studio comedy in which Adam Sandler has sex with a stranger while pretending to be a Merman. But someone recently pointed out the parallel, and — like a Magic Eye stereogram or that bump on Jean-Claude Van Damme’s forehead — it’s the kind of thing that you can’t un-see.
Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) is our new Nick Carraway, an aspiring L.A. comedian who forms an unlikely relationship with a lonely, enigmatic, semi-reclusive titan of his industry. George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is our Gatsby, a mega-successful movie star whose fame and fortune have distanced him from the world beyond the walls of his empty Hollywood mansion. Simmons, like Gatsby, has made too much money on vapor; he’s spent so long buying the human connections that most people typically have to earn.
