/tv/ is probably the worst place to discuss this.

so lets discuss this.
>>
Looks good
>>
The trailer made it sound like Tommy Wisseu was doing his best James Franco impersonation rather than vice versa. I haven't even seen the movie and I already hate it.

>>
It will be shit, the trailer already jumped the shark

>>
>>85147282
The trailer made it look like Tommy was just this funky actor guy in one of those purposefully-bad-to-be-cult movies and not the alien mastermind international assassin sex god trillionaire auteur who thought he was making a new Gone with the Wind

It looks like they're just remaking Room but as bloopers
>>
>>85147282
Been waiting forever for this to come out. I bet it will be comfy
>>
Franco doesn't even sound like he's trying to be Tommy
>>
Has Franco even made anything good? At least he got tired of embarrassing himself attempting to adapt Faulkner. He's the fucking disaster "artist".

It's sad, for a short time he was supposed to be the next big star in Hollywood and then he disappeared completely like that one faggot from the Twilight movies.

I wish literally anyone but James Franco and Seth Rogan were making this.

I know everyone likes to shit on the green screen but I guarantee most of those people didnt learn about it until later. I legitimately thought it was real. The random shots of forest around San Fransisco actually helped too. The movie is awful but people like to cherry pick the fuck out of it. I had no clue it wasnt shot in SF

You've got to be joking. Green screen looked very obvious. It's bizarre this trash movie has achieved "cult" status. Money thrown to extended marketing to be sure.

I read the book. I can tell you that won't be the case. If you've ever heard how the Francos talk about the room and Tommy, you'll know it won't be that.
>>
Am I out of.touch? The trailer wasn't funny to me in the slightest. All these fb comments and shares from people saying they think it looks great, but all I see is Franco doing a piss-poor Wiseau impression. So far, it looks like the original blows this out of the water and the book already tells a kore engaging behind the scenes.

I WAS BEING POLITE.

i'm sure he's fine, but this movie's going to be weird since i've seen the room 50 times. it looks like cosplay
>>
>>85154409
Not necessarily. Apparently the way he coaxially mounted the digital and film cameras might make a 3D release possible.
>>
>>85155474
It does. But think about it with a jew mind. Greg has already gotten cash from his book deal and from selling the rights to allow for a film to be produced. Actually casting him, while being meta and entertaining, would've only lined his pockets with more money and I don't think that's something Franco probably wanted. Why not have your brothers/friends join up and get some money instead?

Another explanation is that Greg has PTSD and wouldn't want to return to a movie based on The Room even as a mock because it would mean reliving the one notable aspect of his life. It may make him look like a sad cunt to even do it.
>>
>>85155714
can that guy even look like a sad cunt? he looks like he's chiseled out of marble no homo
>>
>>85155780
I meant that people might perceive him as cashing on the cult status of the film which admittedly is the only major thing Greg has going for him. It's like when the other members of the cast and crew got together to make a documentary about The Room sometime after the whole thing went down. While I can't blame a person for wanting to cash in on the one item that allowed them their 15 minutes of fame, it'd be a little shitty to have your career so thoroughly tied to it that it's all you're ever known and the rest of your professional acting career dwindles considerably in comparison.

But fuck it. Money over everything.

Not too sure about James' impression but I think Dave Franco totally nails that "this guy is terrible but I'm his friend so I HAVE to support his shittiness and make sure this thing gets done" feeling. Just the way he sort of defends and reassures Tommy as he stumbles his way through the lines, like he's trying to diffuse the tension between Tommy and the film crew, fuck it's perfect.

Fuck though couldn't they have cast someone else as Tommy? James Franco just doesn't seem right for the role.

>>
>>85147282

Cautiously optimistic. The book is a masterpiece - But I was nervous when I saw the casting (I don't think either Franco brother is quite right, and I don't think James has the chops to pull it off - should have been Tommy himself or Nic Cage) and I was DOUBLY nervous when I saw Franco would direct, given how awful his directing has been so far.

The trailer and poster were...meh. But the reviews out of Sundance were amazing - However I think Rogen and Franco get a pretty easy ride from critics - See the high praise for fucking Sausage Party.

He didn't direct This Is The End. That was Rogen/Goldberg.

>>
>>85169372
In the book, Greg insinuates that there may be more to the story than this, given that Tommy lies to him throughout their whole relationship about trivial and key biographical details. He points out that the idea that someone can go from selling toy birds on a waterfront to owning a building in a decade through entirely legitimate means, seems very fishy, especially since Tommy mentions that he deliberately tried and succeeded at becoming a busboy at a mob-operated restaurant. The most plausible element of his speculations is the idea that Tommy was able to get good deals on irregular reject Levi jeans from China due to his shady connections, but he goes on to obliquely hint at some clues that the truth may be darker. Obviously, there's the issue of the rich old lady who he befriended (not to say that he didn't have a legitimate friendship with her, but given how he treats Greg and all his colleagues on the set, it's not hard to imagine that all his relationships have a manipulative dynamic). Then there's Drew Caffrey, a dead man listed as another one of the producers. Tommy mentions that Drew was a father figure to him who was responsible for helping him rise from rags to riches. Greg mentions am insurance claim video Tommy showed him where Greg (inexplicably dressed in a white labcoat) acts as a material witness and vouches for Tommy's good character in relation to a fire (in which a man tragically died) that burnt down one of Tommy's buildings. Make of that what you will.

People commonly believe that manipulative people are stoical, hyperrational, affectionless masterminds who choose to manipulate for Machiavellan, cynical reasons. This type definitely exists but they're outnumbered by people who are manipulative because they're emotionally stunted, desperately lonely and insecure people who literally don't know any other way of relating to people.

Life isn't black and white, people are more complicated than that.
And Tommy is especially complicated, he's been through a shitty childhood in a collapsing post soviet country where his only escape from daily misery was sneaking into the movie theatre, he was traumatized by being abused by the police after he illegally immigrated into france and then when he finally arrived in America and (presumably) became a self made millionaire by working his ass off he had a near death car crash that may or may not have changed his personality.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Tommy had a hard live.

Thing about the "being abused by the police part" is that the story changes each time he tells it, sometimes they force him to play russian roulette, sometimes they try to dry shave him (which he probably just has from Rambo), sometimes they shoot bullet near him even though it's ridiculous to think that policemen would fire shots inside their station just to scare a person.
