As you come into this world, something else is also born. You begin your life, and it begins a journey towards you. It moves slowly, but it never stops. Wherever you go, whatever path you take, it will follow. Never faster, never slower. Always coming. You will run, it will walk. You will rest, it will not. One day, you will linger in the same place too long. You will sit too still or sleep too deep. And when, too late, you rise to go, you will notice a second shadow next to yours. Your life will then be over.

>What are you most excited about for Series 11, /who/?

Honestly as I'm very apprehensive about Chinballs and the possibility of Kris Marshall, the one thing that always gets me hyped is the wait to see the new title sequence with the new theme. With the Doctor and the costume usually revealed in advance, the titles are one of the few things you actually see for the first time on airing, which is a really exciting feeling. I loved seeing the new titles/theme for Deep Breath, and I'm hyped for S11's.

TL;DR: Moffat's story of Bill is a perfect combination of themes from Buddhism and from Joseph Campbell's The Hero of a Thousand Faces. Not one detail can or should be changed.

Ever since the evolution of the First Doctor, the Doctor has had a form of enlightenment, his form of dharma. But he claimed he was not ready for full enlightenment in the Fifth Doctor serial Enlightenment. Instead his example led to his companion Turlough reconciling with his past and achieving Turlough's true identity, his destiny.

The Doctor is the Buddhist theme of one who can obtain enlightenment but who chooses to stay in the world to help others obtain theirs. Ultimate success for the Doctor would be helping a companion to achieve this blessed state.

And that why Bill's story is essential, because Bill is the one to make it all the way to complete enlightenment. Bill has the innocent kindness, the intelligence, and most of all, the ability to retain her identity in the face of overwhelming challenge. This is a clever interpretation of the Gautama Buddha's achievement of retaining his identity through physical deprivation and temptation until he achieved enlightenment.

It is therefore essential to the story that Bill retains her identity in The Lie of the Land and in The Doctor Falls, and that she achieves the enlightenment of being able to travel through all of time and space exploring the Universe with Heather, what the Doctor is not able to achieve with the Doctor's childhood friend, the Master.
>>
>>84845130
2/2

The Buddha's quest for enlightenment involved reconciling the existence of suffering. The answer in this season of Dr. Who seems to be that suffering to fulfill duty of care is what helps us grow as human beings.

In The Pilot, Bill had a chance to run away with Heather and see the Universe without having to undergo any of her trials of this season. But after The Doctor Falls, Bill can assert to Heather:

BILL: Just one thing. I've been through a lot since the last time we met, so I'll show you around.

We see in Series 10 how Bill goes from having a duty of care for the orphans in Thin Ice to assuming equal duty of care for the Doctor, from sacrificing the freedom of the world to buy time in The Pyramid at the End of the World, to clubbing the Doctor to prevent him from assuming the duty as eternal sentinel in The Eaters of Light, to finally saving the Doctor's life and later laying him at rest in the TARDIS in The Doctor Falls.

As for other mechanics of Bill's story, this is straight out of Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Bill comes from humble beginnings but is recognized to have a destiny by a mentor. She descends into the underworld and is tested by monsters who threaten to devour her. And then she obtains some insight that reconciles two seemingly opposed sides. Here the opposed sides are duty versus leaving to pursue one's own bliss. The reconciliation is that one cannot become complete as a person without at some point assuming duty of care for another and thus suffering for it. But when that duty of care resolves, then one is free to leave, now able to achieve higher bliss.

Am I saying Moffat wrote such a perfect match to teach an introduction to Buddhism and Joseph Campbell? No, it could well be a coincidence. But that is why I am so happy to watch and re-watch The Doctor Falls, because whatever the motivation, Moffat obeyed the demands of art to produce a masterpiece.

Why does it feels like Capaldi's is playing a different version of the Doctor in each series he stars in ?

I like to think it's character developpement, but somehow, I know it's just loosy writing.
Anyway, I liked every of these versions.

Asshole Doctor from series 8 was the best.
>>
>>84845130
>>84845150
Literally just a long-winded, overly-congratulatory way of saying "a character vaguely underwent the hero's journey".

How revelatory. Bravo Moffat. Truly, no other writer can manage such a feat as putting a character through the most common narrative in human history.

I love Moff but come on. What you said just comes down to "X character changed between episode 1 and episode 12, isn't that mind-blowing?".

Also Bill's ability to retain her identity is explained as being from Heather's tears, not from Bill being the most super special powerful woman in the universe.
>>
>>84844194
Hmm, Briggs is there...voicing Mondassians?
>>
>>84845182
It is character development.

S8 beginning - Am I a good man? Wrestling with who he is. Irritable, cranky, unsure of himself.
S8 ending - I am an idiot. Found his identity, more carefree, more compassionate.

S9 beginning - Again, I am an idiot. Guitar, playful antics, carefree. Clara acting the same way leads them to bounce off each other co-dependently and make each other more and more reckless, leading to...
S9 ending - realising he went too far, and dialling things back down. Less playful, more self-assured.

S10 beginning - Settled down, still wants to adventure but is being dutiful, guarding the Vault and whatnot.
S10 ending - After giving in and having some (fairly careful) adventures (again, building off the tempering his personality aspect the last 2 series did), his duty is paid off in Missy turning good - but he doesn't see it, and everything seems to go to shit for him again, and he starts to regenerate. He's angry at his life going down the same road so many times, so he tries to refuse to do so, leading to...

Christmas special - haven't seen it yet, but hardly a stretch to think it'll end his character development in a fitting spot
>>

You would defend Moffat to the death wouldn't you...
>>
>>84845288
This. He's had a great arc. It's basically what Colin wanted for his doctor. People who think it's inconsistent weren't paying attention.
>>
>>84845385
No, I think S5 is extremely overrated, and S6 and S7 are fundamentally broken.
>>
>>84845385
Also I don't like the 50th that much, and hate the War Doctor. There's tonnes of Moff writing I don't like, but I'll defend what I find to be good television, sure, and that's the Capaldi era in my eyes.

Know that he almost left the show, what are your favorites Capaldi moments ?

>Just See me

>"What's under your bed..." in Listen
>Not finding Gallifrey at the end of series 8
>Heaven Sent
>"I'm the man who stops the monsters !" in flatline
>The Cards in Before the Flood
>"I'M STILL BLIND !" (the twist was kind of cheesy, but it was well done !)
>Most of The Doctor falls
>Pic related

I guess I forgot some. But it shows that even if he was in a lot of "meh" episodes, he had a shit tone of great little moments.

Time will tell, but he might be my definitive Doctor.

>>
>>84845893
Like, an episode into a Doctor Who movie, or an episode into a non-Doctor Who movie?

Midnight could be a great, pretty cheaply-done horror. The Girl in the Fireplace could fit into that whole genre of romances as time travel movies (About Time, etc.).

I'm trying to think of a way you could untangle the Doctor Who/Charley continuity from The Charles of Midnight, because it could have such great aesthetic, but I can't think of any way to.

It had good ratings. It was a very marketable finale. It got a lot of hype and people watching. It's very dramatic. A lot of things happen in it. That's what I'll say for it.

S4 is generally quite strong though. The third-last episode is really quite good. Midnight is RTD's best ep of all IMO.

>>84846478
The episodes themselves aren't super strong on a case-by-case basis, but the Donna/10 pairing is so good that it elevates the series. Meanwhile S3 has a lot more great episodes, but the central pairing never really works, so it feels like a worst series even though it has better episodes. Chemistry makes a world of difference
>>
>>84846286
It's been a few years since I last listened to it, but I remember thinking that it really didn't have enough material for four episodes. It was as padded as a Pertwee six-parter, and I didn't find a lot of interesting stuff in it.

>You didn't like the Klein stuff?
Klein is one of my favorite companions, I think Colditz is great and her first trilogy is one of the best Big Finish ever produced in terms of consistency and character development. But Klein in Dominion... Eeeeh. The most interesting hing about her was to see her morality clashing with the Doctor's, but now that she's no longer a Nazi that is gone. I remember that she finds out about her "real" past in Dominion, but nohing much happens as a result.

Raine is also incredibly bland.

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, 12/Bill “I'm a lesbian” Potts) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
And free scenario prompts:
http://games.usvsth3m.com/drwho/

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

That seems odd, especially for a writer who releases a ton of shit he worked on like Campaign for free without expecting any payment. As well as somebody who's worked on tie-in books and audios before I was born.

But after reading some of Mortimore's recent stuff, I think if he delivered a script to Briggs, it would be two hours of white noise with McCoy reading out non-sequiturs in between.

How are the Ace/Mel Audios? Seems like a strange combo. Also, is it pre or post Hex?
>>
>>84847855

>>
>>84847816
And while I know BF writers don't get paid that much, they surely get paid more than someone who rewrites his own VNAs and sells them on Facebook. I don't think I know anybody, even the people who buy from Obverse on a regular basis, who knows about Mortimore's Flux Doctor books.

Found his post on GB

>OK, I'll keep this super simple - I would really like to do some more work for BF. But I would also like to be able to negotiate terms for work. BF don't pay royalties for writing or music composition, and I believe (as do independent professional bodies) this should at the very least be able to be negotiated. So far I am the only person to ever have successfully negotiated a royalty payment for music composed for BF plays. It took me a year, and even then there were clauses in the contract forbidding me from discussing the specifics. I suspect it's this mootable moment of contractual largesse which is the root cause of BF not wishing to work with me again. My own experience is mixed. I have had several very good relationships with BF. NHOF was amazing all round (see my book about it, Unnatural Selection). Plague of Dreams contained some genuinely touching performances. All the short stories I've written for their short trips collections were fantastic writing experiences. But two projects have gone west in ways I found unecessarily unprofessional. Both of those have been well documented and that info is out there, as previously observed on this thread. All this being said, I would still happily work for them again. Perhaps if enough people write and ask they may change their mind. Then again... well... at least I'm still cuddly in bed! :0)

I think the two "projects" he mentioned are a Benny story that got scrapped when Mortimore had already written a full script and a Chesterton Companion Chronicle he wanted to write.
>>
>>84847974
That is probably enough for BF to get started.
>>
>>84847956
I like her because I think that she kind of breaks the general mold that a companion would usually be created in - she doesn't really scream under duress and she's more than willing to fight (Daleks/Haemovores/Cybermen)
>>
>>84847855
>>84847867
It's after Hex, though you couldn't guess that from Ace's characterization, since she's written like she's just come out of Dragonfire.

Honestly, they aren't very good. Maybe you could get Fiesta of the Damned if you're really interested, it's the best of the three.

That sucks, especially since he and Briggs go way back since the Audio Visual days. Then again, some of what I read implies that Mortimore's an oddball who's hard to work with, like when BBC Books asked him for a 1st Doctor historical and he gave them Campaign, along with how his recent books are either self-published or printed by indie presses like Obverse.

>>
>>84848244
Well, there's A Death in the Family, kind of.
But maybe the NAs had already explored her as well as it could be done before BF got to it?
>>
Why hasn't Nick Briggs written a TV story?
>>
>>84848319
Because he's a mediocre writer and thankfully both RTD and Moff thought better than asking him.
>>
>>84848301
Death in the Family is great, but less because of Ace and more because of the scenes with the Word Lord and Evelyn. What I mean is that BF have done some really interesting things with companions like Steven, Sara Kingdom, Romana, Leela, Nyssa, Peri, and Mel, but haven't really done anything unique with Ace beyond making her a big sister figure to Hex. And it sucks because Ace is my favorite Classic Who companion.

I hate being alone. It’s Friday night, everyone is out having a blast and getting drunk, but here I am sitting at my snack wrapper covered desk arguing with some asshole on /who/ about his constant THICC-posting. God, I hate when this tripfag gets on. All he ever does is post constant shit about how THICC Colin Baker is. I had to tell him to kill himself. Just when I was about to solve the CAPTCHA by clicking on the cat furniture, I heard a dripping sounds behind me and a pungent smell sting my nostrils. I whirled around in my office chair to find Heather standing and dripping her wet essence on my floor.
“Hey”, she said in a soft sultry voice, “You ever stick your dick in a puddle?”
I stammered. She was so beautiful. Her golden hair flowed like water, her curves were like waves, and her stunning eyes burned with passion like the star in her eye would go supernova. It was then that I noticed the water dipping off her was an amber hue. She was made of piss.
“H-How did you get in here?”, I asked.
“Up through the toilet, it was quite the squeeze with hips like mine.”
“Y-you smell like piss”, I said chuckling sheepishly. I had always had a piss fetish after getting my head dunked in toilets by bullies at school.
“You like it? I often take up some of the liquid I come in contact with, part of being a liquid pilot I guess.”
“Oh, I like it”
“Would you like for me to show you what I can do?”
“I thought you were a lesbian?”
“You could say I am a bit “fluid” in my sexuality”
>>
>>84848409
Shame, cause I don't see Chibnall pulling from any JNT era writers. As much as I liked Survival, I would've killed for Aaronovich in Series 10.
>>
>>84848447
She then launched herself at me with a jet of piss coming out of her feet and knocked me out of my chair. I fell hard on the floor, but thankfully a bed of Cheeto crumbs broke my fall. She was on top of me. She was surprisingly strong for a puddle of piss. Her wet hair dripped piss on my face. Drip drip, drop drop. She licked my face leaving a trail of piss from my chin to my forehead. She giggled and began to take off her clothes which seemed to liquify back into her body as soon as they came off. Her breasts were magnificent. Truly these were no pancake tits like Clara. She removed my clothes and began riding my dick. She was surprisingly warm on the inside. I grabbed her puddle ass and squeezed. It was like warm Jell-O in my hands. I was becoming rock hard. My erection could break the wall from Heaven Sent in just one punch. I nearly came early but she used her puddle powers to keep the cum inside me, furthering my organism. She grabbed my Tom Baker scarf my aunt had knitted me and started choking me with all twelve feet of it. She leaned in close to my face. I could really smell the piss now. She opened her mouth and unleashed a torrent of piss straight onto my face. I opened my mouth so I could taste the salty flavor of her gift. I felt a warm feeling on my groin, she was also peeing while she fucked me. Just when I was about to pass out from the piss soaked scarf squeezing my neck, she released my orgasm. The largest load I had ever shot rhythmically spirting from my cock. She began to soak in my cum. After I had finished and she had soaked in all my cum, she released the scarf from my throat. I lay there gasping for air in a fit of ecstasy. She got up and leaned over to me and whispered in my ear.
>>
>>84848409
RTD said the only classic writer he was interested in inviting was Robert Holmes, and that would have required a seance.
>>
>>84848479
“You will now be a part of me forever, never forget that”
She then walked out of my room, into the bathroom, and then flushed herself back down the toilet. I continued to lay there for a while longer with only one thought in my head. This would be one hell of a cleanup.

Don't worry about being too wordy or unwordy. If you want an estimate, 3000-4000 words is a good maximum. Honestly, it could be 400 words or 10,000 words, it'll probably be okay. Just have fun.

The problem is partly that there have been so few (relatively) solo Ace audios. Most of the main range for 7 is tied up in the Hex arc or solo adventures so she hasn't had a plethora of chances to shine like Nyssa.

The Fearmonger
The Genocide Machine
Dust Breeding
Colditz
The Rapture
1963: The Assassination Games
You Are The Doctor anthology

That's it. The first five are Gary Russell Pre-Hex stories. Briggs didn't even bother for more solo Ace stories until the 50th.

It needs to be someone who would mean something to Clara. Pretyending to be Eleven or Twelve, or just being someone who looks like someone she's fantasized of being with, works. So does looking like Clara--Clara's always been a little enamoured of herself, no? Even pretending to be Rory might work, since Clara might bond with a former companion.

And will Clara realize she's shagging the Master? And more importantly, will she stop once she realizes?

>>
>>84851576
I like the Rory angle. I'll probably go with that. I think she'll realise (or he'll reveal it) after something big happens (timelord and human DNA is incompatible so getting her pregnant can't happen) so maybe he turns her against Ashildr. I've not put much thought into it yet.

The Man with The Umbrella floated. It always floated in every single nightmare Ace ever had that it was in, even in those where she never directly saw its feet. She never needed to see them in order to know that it was floating; it seemed to like holding itself aloft with the distinct arrogance of someone that did not need to walk in order to move. Its charmingly urbane and sartorially elegant exterior contrasted well with both the distinctly putrefying and blood-shot eyes it bore, and the thinly-pressed, yet pin-resembling fangs it kept hidden beyond cracked and bloody lips. The tailored suit must've been an original; late 50's to early 60's at a quick but thorough glance - whoever adorned it originally must have been held by those surrounding him to have been the greatest importance in their lives. The suit had not only been weathered by the immediate environment it found itself in but also by age. A deep tear across the left shoulder blade accentuated the dark and rotting flesh festering underneath the interior of the maroon suit and emitted a noxious odour which seemed to ignore the importance of distance - despite Ace being just over 40 metres away from the visage, she could smell it as if she and it were wearing the same jacket at the same time.

Despite The Man in The Umbrella appearing to her several times in both her child and teen-hood dreams, it had only ever appeared in actuality once. The first dream was first dreamt when she was barely even eight, and that was deemed once too many by a distraught and inconsolable Dorothy McShane. For a while, the visage seemed to stop, but nothing stays buried in Perivale for too long.

>>
>>84851995
Who is this person and why should I care?
>>
>>84851960
Yes it's one time too many. Hence the "time enough". He's regenerated enough times, he doesn't want to keep going, this one would be too much. It's like when you've eaten too much at Christmas and you're like "time enough, I'm about to explode", the next fork is too much.
>>
>>84852036
>>84851448
>>84851576
Perivale had been thunderstorm prone during the early 70's, and Dorothy McShane used to take long walks along Perivale Common in a yellow parka and matching wellington boots. Eventually, however, she had to stop due to an accident late one November; while searching for his dog which had bolted free from its restraints due to a thunderclap, a man had been struck by a lightning bolt, killing him instantly. No one expects to go for a walk in the rain and find a charred, smouldering and bloody corpse wearing a nice suit with a umbrella snapped in two at its feet, let alone an eight year old child.

Yet, here it was, in front of her. It felt as if a magic trick had been undone before her very eyes, or as if the cork off the top of a bottle of cheap champagne had hit her square in the throat. After all these years, the Man with The Umbrella had finally caught up with her; it may have taken it several years and several millions of light-years to get to where she was now, but that didn't matter - it was here now, and there was nothing Ace could do about it.

I've never quite understood the relationship between Big Finish and the BBC. So they're an individual company not part of the Beeb? They have to buy the rights to certain characters and aliens in order to produce an audio story? Does any of the profits from the sales go back to the BBC or does BF get to keep everything because they bought the rights? And just how much are they allowed to get away with in terms of continuity or "the canon"?

I'd always assumed they worked under the BBC and were part of their marketing team, keeping the DW brand alive with audio stories, but all these mentions of acquiring "the rights" to certain stuff made me question just what their relationship is.

Pandorica Opens/Big Bang - The Daleks, weary of their endless war against the Doctor on Trenzalore, finally agree to join an Alliance with other alien races to trap the Doctor in the Pandorica. The attempt fails.

Asylum of the Daleks - A Parliament, established to maintain peace between the Paradigm and the Time War Daleks, attempts to destroy the Dalek Asylum. We learn that the Daleks temporarily forget about the Doctor.

Time of the Doctor - The Daleks suffer heavy losses attacking Trenzalore, and are beaten back by the Doctor. The Paradigm are destroyed when the Dalek Parliament ship is destroyed by the Doctor.

Into the Dalek - The Doctor starts a second Dalek civil war by planting Rusty the Renegade Dalek into the Dalek Empire

Magician's Apprentice/Witch's Familiar - The Daleks recreate Skaro and hold Davros there in an attempt to retain their racial purity and evolve via Time Lord regeneration energy, the attempt fails.

The Pilot - In the chaos of the new Dalek Civil War, the Movellans see their chance and attack the Dalek Empire, starting a second Dalek-Movellan War.

could Chibnall's era continue this story?

There is not story.
>>
>>84851960
That's what I took from the whole scene. 12 wants to die. He's had enough. No more Doctor. He'll end it. A bit unsure on how he's planning to do that though. He's got an entire regeneration cycle left in him so he'd have to shoot himself in the face 12 times or harm himself in such a grave way that he won't be able to regenerate. It's all beside the point though as like that other anon said the Christmas Special will likely be about 12 accepting that the Doctor is a force for good in the Universe and should live on
>>
>>84852111
No. 12 pushes 1 on the Tardis console splitting his head open and forcing him to regenerate, telling him "not to be a pussy and fucking regenerate" thus ensuring his own existence. 12 refuses to change and regenerates into himself thanks to a timey wimey Moffat loophole. Peter plays the Doctor for the next few series under Chibnall.
>>
>>84852220
Chibnall should forget about the Daleks completely and focus on a series comprised of totally new villains/monsters. It's the only way the show can progress.

>I've never quite understood the relationship between Big Finish and the BBC. So they're an individual company not part of the Beeb? They have to buy the rights to certain characters and aliens in order to produce an audio story?
Yes to all.
>Does any of the profits from the sales go back to the BBC or does BF get to keep everything because they bought the rights?
The second option.
>And just how much are they allowed to get away with in terms of continuity or "the canon"?
If I remember correctly, the BBC has the power of vetoing BF from producing a script. I don't know if they can do it only on the basis of contractually-agreed conditions or if they can just stop Briggs from making a story whenever they feel like it. I definitely know that BF aren't allowed to go too far in terms of violence in their stories since the new series started and Doctor Who had to become child-friendly again.

I just thought of something interesting - say someone unbalanced knew of the Doctor and held him at gunpoint and demanded the Doctor to convince him not to shoot him; if the specific incarnation doesn't persuade him, the person shoots that incarnation and waits for him to regenerate, and then begins the process all over again.

>McCoy tells him to shoot him in the face anyway trying to bluff him, but still gets shot dead

Thanks for that really clear and enlightening answer. Interesting stuff. Especially about BF getting to keep any and all profits once they've bought the rights. Makes you wonder how much it costs to buy the rights of certain DW stuff.
Can't be cheap, especially since they basically buy everything (classic and nuwho monsters, doctors and characters, spin-offs like Torchwood, people like River Song). Though I assume that once they have the rights they can keep pumping out stories.

Ashildr was the worst thing about series 9. I'll bin her as soon as possible.

Might introduce a few reasons to turn Ashildr against Clara. The Master figures out a way to bring Clara back from the dead (properly, no tattoo and a pulse) and Clara feels indebted to him, and so goes off with him. Ashildr is left on Gallifrey (as they had to return there to put Clara back into her timestream) and tortured or something.

I dunno.
>>
>>84851540
Kind of. I really like his Doctor, but wish he would show up in some audios.

It really is the best one. The first one in NuWho and also the best one they've done. I've just gone through a list of all the Dalek stories in NuWho and it just hit me how much I didn't enjoy them much at all.

>S1 finale was alright. Good cliffhanger but bad ending.
>S2 finale wasn't good. They went fan service over quality
>Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks was terrible. Hybrid idea was interesting but looked terrible, also pig men for no reason and terrible American accents from British actors
>S4 finale (fuck me RTD loved using Daleks in his finales didn't he) was all over the place. Daleks didn't do much in the story, most of it was about all of the companions and Davros
>Victory of the Daleks was a blatant and failed attempt at boosting merchandise by introducing the Dalek Rangers
>Asylum of the Daleks was kinda decent I'll admit, but the story was held down by the forced drama of Amy and Rory suddenly hating each other
>Into the Dalek was just a generic "shrink and get inside something" episode that's been done a million times in other shows. Only good part was the Dalek "turned good" and blowing shit up.
>S9 opening two-parter was alright but the Daleks again weren't used well and never provided a threat because they never shot for plot reasons. Also "where'd I get this tea lol". Though the "You have the privilege of having the only other seat in Skaro" line was funny.

When you put them all up like that you start to realise that the best episode was S1's Dalek, simply because the alien was used best in that and didn't serve as a background threat.

>They have to renew their contract with the BBC every few years.
>We don't know anything about the money that gets passed around behind the scenes.
I bet it's fucking expensive. The BBC wouldn't hand out those rights easily, especially if they're not making extra money from the BF sales. I'm betting the BBC is quite happy with BF. They get a good amount of money off of them every few years while the Doctor Who brand is being promoted and kept alive at the same time.
>>
>>84853129
I would hope a post-dictator Time Lord society would be better behaved than torture. I could see Me agreeing to observation and controlled experiments, however.
>>
>>84853217
I should also mention: some things aren't owned by the BBC, so they have to pay the respective property holders: Terry Nation's estate for the Daleks, Robert Holmes's estate for the Sontarans, etc.
For the first few years, they couldn't use the Sontarans and other monsters because the rights for those had been sold to another fan company, BBV productions.
>>
>>84853233
Yeah, they probably wouldn't torture her. I like the idea of the Master causing Ashildr to grow a distaste for Clara though - seems like something he'd do.

>>

>>
>>84851540
I don't resent him personally. He's perfectly entitled to his personality and beliefs. He signed up for a lead role in a revival of a drama series. From what I've seen he's a very serious man who takes acting very seriously. His decision to bow down after one series and his decision to distance himself from what he regards as just another acting job he did 12 years ago is entirely his own.
So no, I don't resent him on a personal level. I just feel it's a shame because he delivered an amazing performance and we'll never see him again on the show, on panels, in audio books etc.
>>
>>84853388
Probably won't be done for quite a while though cause I've got quite a few ideas for it.

Sort of beside the point but aren't the Ood technically the property of RTD? They like to use the Ood in cameo roles every now and then and I'm sure I see RTD mentioned in the credits of those episodes. My man!
I love that episode, but it gets a lot of negativity. The setting was great, the booth dudes were good, the concept of everyone on the ship getting to know the truth but always choosing to forget was chilling, but the best part was Amy realising the similarities between the space whale and the Doctor, and that tender moment between them afterwards. For me, The Eleventh Hour cemented that Smith was the new Doctor and a great one, but The Beast Below cemented Amy as a great companion.
>>
>>84854002
This. I agree so much. Got to be honest at the time I found The Beast Below a let down after the Eleventh Hour but on my rewatches it has grown to become one of my favourites of Series 5.

The scene where The Doctor flips out at Amy is pretty GOAT, and showed he had a lot more depth than just being quirky.
>>
Is David Bradley an example of a good actor only breaking through in his later years? He did some stage stuff and minor tv roles for a while but only really came to the public's attention as Filch in the Harry Potter films. And from there he's done Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Broadchurch etc. But nothing really big before HP.

Amy saving the day is the main reason people dislike the episode I think. >pretty sure 12s regen is about him wanting to die and not continue, then the xmas special is about how he's convinced to become 13 and go forward etc

Sort of... but I think more he is afraid of what he will become, isn't 13 meant to be the Valeyard or something? Theoretically that means he'll change into something he won't like, something that goes completely against everything he believes in. That's why he doesn't want to change, not this time.

Likely the twist of the Christmas special will have the first Doctor convincing the 12th that whatever happens he'll still be the same person deep down and talk about how different they are but point to ways they are still the same. The 12th Doctor will go off into the tardis to regenerate and regenerate into the 1st Master. After some exposition and a montage of Mastery stuff it'll cut to Missy having been shot by Simm Master dying at the end of the last episode. Suddenly she starts to regenerate, turns out she knew Simm Master would pull that shit and planed accordingly.

She regenerates into Claire Sweeney and says "Time to be the Doctor again." or something like that.
