Has Gallifrey always had the property of existing outside the linear time continuum or whatever by just hopping all around time and space? If not, how the fuck did they gain this ability and what is the purpose of using it besides hiding where nobody can find them? If they can do this, why didn't they use this tactic during the Time War to just move the entire species and planet out of the way of Dalek assault? Why the fuck is this a thing and why the hell isn't it even explained?

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, 12/Bill “I'm a lesbian” Potts) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
And free scenario prompts:
http://games.usvsth3m.com/drwho/

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.) Due date Aug 22nd.

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

>Hahaha what? Are you keeping them like a slave or something?
Think of the complications man. Two identical versions of you would be walking around. What if I'm spotted by someone I know while me clone is spotted by someone else? You could never go out together either. You can't suddenly start telling everyone you have an identical twin who you've never mentioned before. Plus, if news got out the media and government would be all over me.

Also don't worry about my clone. He's me. He'd be perfectly happy sitting at home all day for months.
>>
what if the doctor's tardis isnt the only thing that's bigger on the in-side ;) if you know what i mean

That makes sense. Though I vaguely seem to remember some kind of uproar about Comic Con getting a new trailer a couple years ago that wasn't shown in the UK before and people got really upset about it.

Honestly, I can't see them announcing the new actor on a Comic Con panel. Bit of a weird way to do it, especially if it's not live-streamed all over the world. Not to mention the complications of keeping the actor out of sight the entire time before the reveal. Employees at the convention would know straight away and tweet about it.

Taking shifts would be a good idea I guess. Like I said though, neither of us would hate staying in. Still, even with taking shifts, would clone me remember a conversation I had with a friend? What if I send clone me to uni and he'd have no idea about conversations I had the previous week? Unless our brains are linked as well and we remember the same experiences we both have in our individual lives, it wouldn't take long for someone to notice something was off.
In any case, a clone would be great. Saves time with chores and stuff, cooking, grocery shopping.
>>
>>84713346
A cross-eyed, stuttering Doctor would be terrible. Unless he sings all his lines he'd be no good at all. That said, a DW musical episode would be a great idea just to try once.

It's official let's pack up boys
>>
>>84713723
>implying Matt Smith wasn't cross-eyed and stuttery
>>
>>84713666
I feel like the smart thing to do is utilize your clone to work two jobs to benefit the both of you; you can both mooch off the same degree, lease, etc. so there's a lot of advantages and shortcuts that two unrelated people wouldn't have. Then use your larger combined income to get what you want.

having a clone also makes it easier to make hard decisions. Work at opposite ends of the globe. Go to both parties. Miss less events. Work twice as fast. The opportunities are endless.

Y'all have a clone you gotta think big.
>>
>>84713775
What are you on about? Face like a foot and no eye brows sure, but not cross-eyed and stuttery

>>
>>84713792
It sounds like an amazing opportunity if you put it like that, but we can't forget that this is a clone of me. I would be way too paranoid that we would be disovered, and thus so would my clone. We wouldn't risk having two jobs (think of official paperwork, taxes etc.). The only thing I could see working is me going to uni and my clone going to my part time job. There's no connection there so it would be fine. I love being alone with myself, so having a perfect clone would be great company at home. Someone to watch tv with, to play video games with, listen to music with. And we'd never get into arguments about what to do because we'd both want to do the same thing.

I know it's not very on-topic but I'm actually really enjoying fantasizing about having a clone. A more on-topic question would be, if a Zygon appeared at your doorstep with new Zygon technology that allows it to take on your form without holding you hostage somewhere. The Zygon's perfectly friendly and just wants to be buddies. Would you be okay having a Zygon clone around? Would you fuck it?

How old were you when you saw your first ever Doctor Who episode and which one was it? Did you start with the reboot, or did you maybe see a re-run of a Classic episode, or maybe your parents had some video tapes and introduced it to you?

I'm 25, born in 1992 so I wasn't alive for Classic Who. But the first episode I watched was from the reboot in 2005 when it aired. I was 13 when I saw my first episode of Who and I was instantly hooked and I've watched every consequent series religiously. Growing up in my teenage years while watching Doctor Who every year was great, also because I was a horny teenager so I wanked myself dry to pics of Rose. I loved being able to grow up in my teenage years and constantly looking forward to the next series. It must be a different experience if you discovered DW later on in life and watch NuWho from the start.

I've often wondered how many people on /who/ started watching Who in 2005, and how many people started watching it years later when they were older. I'm also curious whether we have any older gents in who may have experienced Classic Who when it was still on TV.

I'll never understand why people are always so obsessed about tripfags. If they annoy you, ignore them. They feed on attention. If they're alright and contribute to conversation in a good way, just treat them like any other anon. I don't understand why people make trips in the first place, but what's even more confusing is people getting so riled up and annoyed which is only further detrimental to the quality of a thread. I've seen entire threads turn to shit just because one or two people keep stirring shit when you could just do what everyone else does and ignore them.

I rewatched Deep Breath after The Doctor Falls and the difference was huge. It's a weird thought, but I'd probably have warmed to him a lot more quickly if he started off with the longer hair, since it's probably his most "Doctor-y" physical attribute. He's probably my favourite now, I just think Series 8 was a little bit of a warming period.

Agreed. It took me a while to warm up to 12. It helped that I already was a massive fan of Capaldi before he became the Doctor, but I personally didn't like his Doctor that much at the start of S8. He became much more likable later on but I guess that was the point. But I personally know a number of people who stopped watching the show early on in S8 and I never managed to convince them to start watching again. Let's hope the next Doctor/showrunner/companion etc get people like that back to watching it, the show needs the viewers.

I was a Dalek fan back in the day so the ones I most missed were in Power of the Daleks and Evil of the Daleks. I never cared for the Macra Terror though so it's not much of a sad loss. They were bought back in Gridlock so we at least get to see them.

>>
>>84718085
Same here. I feel like a lot of the rudeness/darkness of his Doctor occasionally felt a little forced during Series 8, and I just don't think that suited Capaldi's portrayal very much. I feel like he's the one who's had more impact on the character than the writers have, and the later portrayal and characterisation just went hand-in-hand perfectly.

You must've been like 22-23 when Sladen went on DW. Surely she wasn't past your time?

Also
>They were bought back in Gridlock so we at least get to see them.
We saw an implication of them more like. I loved the idea of the Macra returning but we barely got a shot of them. Maybe one vague, bad-CGI'd claw obscured by darkness (well, engine fumes). Hope they make another return one day, this time in their full glory.
>>
>>84718326
At that point I'd already got a girlfriend (who later became my wife) so I didn't need to have a tug to her.

It would be interesting to see Chibnall tackle the Macra but I highly doubt they'll be used any time soon.

Do you remember any lost moments that no audio or telesnap can recapture? Stuff like Mavic Chen's face when the Daleks turn on him?

It goes without saying that Tom's era was the most popular, but how was mainstream popularity prior to him?
>>
>>84718672
The good man thing was a nice idea I think, but it just didn't work for me. But it luckily didn't stick for long and all in all I love Capaldi as the Doctor.

The "elderly" rock star thing was great. Capaldi rocking sun glasses and an electric guitar was amazing. Not a fan of the sonic sun glasses though, not sure if he came up with that himself or if Moffat decided to make them sonic since Capaldi liked wearing them. Again though, luckily the sonic glasses didn't stay for long.
>>
>>84718891
Thank you for your interest.
>>
>>84718911
Not too well, it was decades ago remember, I do remember Mavic Chen having a bit of an "oh shit" face when they turned on him.

The documentary about Hartnell's era got it pretty spot on, aisde from some creative liberties. I remember looking at Hartnell's Doctor like a Grandfather, moreso than others because both of mine died when I was younger. The Daleks of course were popular and I think the educational part of the show had a good effect on children because everyone in my History class seemed more interested, especially in parts where a story was set.

Troughton was loved too, of course, but it took a while for me to warm to him. Plus by that point I was 15-18 so I had my mind on other things. A lot of his stories are lost of course so I have fuzzier memories of him due to not being able to relive them.

Pertwee was very popular too, especially to kids who enjoyed his more action-oriented Doctor.

I like the 12th Doctor. I prefer it when the Doctor is an older man as it reminds me of the grandfatherly figure Hartnell was. He's surprisingly spry compared to his looks too. Plus Missy's actress is a bit of a fox isn't she?

I'm conflicted on a female Doctor. I couldn't imagine him being female as I don't think it fits his character, but if we were forced on one I'm sure she'd grow on me. She'd have to fit the role perfectly (No Tilda Swinton or Phoebe Whatshername types)

She's very attractive, and from what I've seen in GoT and The Scandalous Lady W I think she can act quite well. I'm not sure whether she'd want to do Who though.

I think Swinton is a bit too odd looking - each actor to play the Doctor, with the exception of Baker and McCoy, have looked relatively normal. Baker and McCoy backed it up with excellent performances.

She's a good actress but something just doesn't sit right with me for her.
>>
>>84719661

>>
>>84719807
I think that's a terrible reason to cast a Doctor. the Doctor isn't supposed to look alien in terms of biology, that's his whole point. He should look like you or me, not something from the Roswell incident.

And hey, if she's up for it it'd be great to see her as the Doctor, though if it was during Chibnall's reign I'd want a male one first so we know he's good before going off the wall.

I kinda disagree. I'm not saying I want Tilda Swinton, but I do like it when the Doctor looks just slightly off. Swinton's way too alien to be honest, but yeah, I think the Doctor should appear slightly out of the ordinary. Not beautiful, not ugly, somewhere in between and with a unique face. Smith was a great choice for that. And Kris Marshall has the same "slighty off" feel about him.

Going female Doctor right now is such an enormous risk that I doubt it will happen. Shaking things up that much might end up losing even more viewers. I agree with the other anon. Chibnall should start his era with a male Doctor to keep things like we're used to, and then use good stories and ideas to hook viewers in. We're probably bound to have a female Doctor at some point, but doing it now is just too much of a risk. Do it after Chibnall's settled in. Or never.

>>
>>84719991

Doctor Who has been a bastion of the white male arrives to save the primitives" , trope

The use of actors with different ethnicities featured as COMPANIONS, is worse than the days of Crusoe's "Man Friday"

The Doctor's companions are proclaimed as "equals" but ultimately require rescue from the white Doctor

I also object to featuring people of different races enjoying the ice on the Thames. This was not historically correct as people of color where assigned to do menial (practically slavery) jobs and had no free time. Especially to mix with the wealthy who skated in 1814 which would have been an outrage

They're a different colour!" line was a terrible choice for a first line because it's basically a repeat of what Smith said "Ooh legs, still got fingers, ooooh, hair" etc. Just felt very lazy to me.

Let's hope it's something like "Change, my dear, and it seems not a moment too soon." I thought that line was great.

I've never seen a single one and I'm not planning to. Though I did make one exception where I watched a segment where Capaldi was being interviewed by Craig Ferguson, because I knew they were old friends and band members.

US talk shows always appear terrible to me. They come across as extremely forced and scripted. I quite like The Graham Norton Show (obviously scripted to an extent too of course, with the guests having prepared an interesting anecdote to share) though. Norton is a great host who can keep things going and get the energy flowing.
What other UK chat shows are there? Alan Carr Chatty Man got cancelled I hear (good riddance). Is Jonathan Ross still doing his show on ITV or Channel 4 or wherever the fuck? Does that Last Leg show count? And incidentally, how in the name of fuck does that show keep getting recommissioned?

Nothing like that. Like I said, I liked him when he started out. Gavin and Stacey is such an iconic sitcom and remains one of my favourite comedy shows. I also thought he dealt with Patrick Stewart very well. I just don't like it when people in the industry become extremely smug and full of themselves as soon as they get some decent fame.
It happened to Ricky Gervais, it happened to Simon Pegg. Once humble and passionate for their art of comedy, fame seems to have corrupted them into thinking they're God's gift to the world. I like it when people stay humble despite success instead of changing into a cunt the moment the bank account hits 3 million.
That's why I love Capaldi. Famous, great actor, well-loved, but still humble enough to talk to fans/have pictures taken/autographs etc.

I hate how they're all smug, left wing, and unfunny. I wouldn't mind if they were funny or at least less smug, but it's always thr most phoned in trash ever.

>So Drumpf's been golfing!
>*guffaw*
>But in the past he said Obama was golfing too much!
>*laughter*
>SO IT'S OKAY WHEN A WHITE GUY DOES IT?!
*whooping*
>"I PLAY THE BEST GOLF, BELIEVE ME FOLKS!"
*more guffawing*
>Oh, so you can do leisure activities, but when a black man does it it's lazy?!
*groaning followed by applause*
>DON'T CLAP THAT, I don't want to be applauded for blatant racism.
*sole laugh from the one guy who realised where this incredibly predictable joke is gojng ahead of schedule*
>NOT LIKE DRUMPF IS!!!
*guffaw, followed by ads*

>Cartmel: This pantomime thing has to be addressed immediately. Whenever you work with someone, especially in a high-pressure situation like TV, there are conflicts. So there were times when I was totally in conflict with John. I don't want this to be like everybody totally loves each other, some luvvie thing. But John has real virtues which nobody appreciates. One was he could do things with budgets. Budgeting is a very creative thing. You've got all this money and you can take money from certain areas and use it in others. And John was a past master at getting incredible value for money, the BBC gave us incredibly low budgets. There would have been no Who at all without John to juggle the budget.

>The other thing about John is that he's fantastic at editing. What I didn't know is that probably half the battle on TV is getting the script and shooting it. Almost all the other half is you've got the raw material, these nuggets you've mined, and you work with them. Editing is a whole other creative thing. John was fantastic at it. He'd say cut all that, reverse the next two scenes, put that there and it'd work. Michael Wearing is like a god at the BBC and he's renowned for that. John has the same skill. I learned so much from watching John edit.

>So when people say things like pantomime, I say nobody ever gives John credit for the things he does strongly. As for the pantomime aspect of Who, let's put it like this. If you could have just brought the lighting right down, and got really imaginative, moody lighting in all of those shows, instead of what I think of as like snooker lighting, I think the whole pantomime thing would have evaporated. That bright artificial lighting gives a brashness and a lack of depth. That's what made it look like a panto. Shooting on video really doesn't help.

I'd be up for something profound. NuWho Doctors first lines have been:
>10: “Hello! Okay.......ooh. New teeth. That’s weird. So, where was I? Oh, that’s right. Barcelona!”
>11: “Legs! I’ve still got legs!! Good. Arms, hands. Ooh, fingers. Lots of fingers. Ears? Yes. Eyes: two. Nose… eh, I’ve had worse. Chin – blimey! Hair… I’m a girl! No! No! I’m not a girl! And still not ginger! There’s something else. Something… important, I’m… I’m-I’m… Ha-ha! Crashing! Geronimo!!“
>12: “Kidneys! I’ve got new kidneys! I don’t like the colour. …We’re probably crashing! Ohh! Stay calm. Just one question: Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?”

10's was okay and didn't drag. 11's were kinda weird but I'll excuse them because 10 just blew the fucking TARDIS up with a massive regeneration shockwave that half-destroyed the set and 11 was clearly confused. 12 is just a simple repeat, going back to body parts and throwing a colour line in there to try and be funny.

Let's hope Marshall gets something better, something that doesn't fixate 100% on the new body. Maybe he realises he can't see very well and picks up some glasses. Just anything but "my toenails smell like fairy liquid now lol"

I have no idea why, but I am convinced that 12's last words will be profound, great, and go down in history as one of the best last lines.
Maybe it's cause Capaldi seems to have some power or influence about his Doctor and that he's such a fan himself. If Moff gave him a shit line Capaldi would speak to him and be like "hey, I don't think so mate."

Holding out hope for Capaldi to regenerate while playing his electric guitar
>>
>>84723868
That would be pretty cool desu.

>>84723825
>Killers are damn good.
They really are. Their style changes from album to album but I've always loved their stuff.

Wait oh God you were the anon taking pics with Who actors. Did it ever feel uncomfortable for you? Did they seem uncomfortable about the whole thing?
I never went to a Con or meet-n-greet but I bet it's be awkward as hell both for me and the actors.
>>
>>84723968
Not awkward at all. I staff that convention and all of the actors are amazingly sweet. Never once did I feel like they were giving me the cold shoulder or anything like that.

Plus it helps that I have confidence and charisma out the ass.
>>
>>84723868
we're really quite blessed that Capaldi is not only the great actor he is, but the great fan he is, because from what we've seen it sounds like Moffat really takes his criticisms and ideas seriously and Capaldi seems to have really great suggestions

Imagine Twelve's era without Capaldi's input from his lifelong love of the show

>Capaldi all alone in his TARDIS, acepting regeneration after speaking with Hartnell.
>Gets into the comfy chair, gets out his guitar and sunglasses.
>Starts playing the DW theme as slowly yellow light starts seeping out from his hands and face
>Does one final stroke on his guitar
>"It's not about being a good man. It's not about being an evil man. It's about being who you are. Listening to your instincts and acting on them. Standing your ground even if the universe is collapsing around you. Who I am is where I stand. And where I stand, at any point in time and space, is where I will protect and defend my ideals."
>Puts guitar down, fondles a bit with the TARDIS controls, then stands up and lets the regeneration take place
