I cry every time at The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe, even though I think the episode is fairly mediocre. Watching The Doctor try to cheer the family up and make their Christmas even though their father died was adorable, watching him explain the whole "because they're going to be sad later" thing, the scene where Madge accidentally lets it slip that their father died, the scene where he is rescued, and the scene where The Doctor visits Amy and Rory for Christmas dinner and starts "happy crying." I know people hate that episode, and I can see why, but it always makes me an emotional wreck.

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, 12/Bill “I'm a lesbian” Potts) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho
And free scenario prompts:
http://games.usvsth3m.com/drwho/

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.) Due date Aug 22nd.

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.
>>
>>84702875
Why do you need an identity? Why not just being anonymous?
>>
>just filtered all tripfags

feels good, I can finally use /who/ again
>>
So what the fuck happened with the valeyard? Are we just ignoring the fact that Christmas is the last chance they have to do anything with it without having it be too absurd?

Recent regenerations have shit on the concept of regeneration anyway

Like, healing without changing makes no fucking sense when the change is the means by which the healing is achieved

They don't just magically fix themselves then change for shits and giggles
>>
>>84703016
Not really. The Valeyard is between the "sixth and final incarnation", so the Valeyard can be anyone after Twelve.

>>
>>84703252
It's debatable whether he's an actual incarnation, or just a manifestation of the Doctor's evil.
>>
Anyone remember the name of this track? It's marked as a variation on "I am The Doctor" in the description, but I remember someone here pointing out that it's actually a pre-existing track. Just can't remember which one.

(22:39) https://youtu.be/xhLPsU15wfA?t=22m39s
>>
>>84703016
Valeyard is in a strange place where you can't just ignored because it's a major piece of lore, but it's also a piece of lore from era nobody likes. So they can't really do anything about it.

I choose to imagine that when Doctor found out about him, he heeded the warning and didn't let Valeyard be born. Or alternatively, Time Lords had a hand in making him but they weren't around due to time war.

'It's not I am the Doctor,' it's 'The Majestic Tale.' People get them mixed up a lot since they both have very similar melodies and are often used in the same track together anyway.
It sounds most like the variant for the 50th to me, but it's not quite the same.

Clara would've sampled both - Gallifreyan cock from the 11th Doctor and black cock from Danny.

Someone ask Jenna Coleman this at a convention.

It bothers the heck out of me that this is literally the exact thing that Ten claimed he did. He said he got the healing from the regeneration and then redirected the regeneration energy into the hand so he wouldn't have to change.

It's especially annoying because just three series (and one regeneration) before this, the Ninth Doctor described the regeneration process as every cell in the body dying, and then being reborn as a different body. The change is a part of the healing process. It made sense.

RTD can't even keep his own lore straight.

At this point, I welcome the possibility of the show eventually being canceled in the possibly-near future. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope that Chibnall is able to rekindle the world's interest in this franchise, but I've matured beyond the notion that Doctor Who has to be on the screen for it to be good.

Reevaluating everything that was made during the Wilderness Years has given me a newfound appreciation for that era of the franchise. If ratings continue to stagnate, and another wilderness era becomes the best option to breath new life into the franchise, I welcome it.

I would non-ironically welcome this with open arms. I've been waiting for the return of a more eye-catching and unique costume for the Doctor. JN-T's ideas may have been ill-advised and regrettably toyetic, but they're still part of the canon. Considering how many regenerations the Doctor has burned through in the intervening time, it's improbable that we haven't yet seen him call back to the bizarre fashion senses of his sixth and seventh incarnations.

This is exactly what the fans have been pleading for for the past decade and Chibnall might be just enough of a madman to do it, but I have reservations over whether I'd believe that McGann would seriously sign on for this.

In interviews, McGann has always been adamant that he doesn't want to return to the role on screen so as to not take the spotlight away from whoever's playing the current Doctor. McGann is a very principled person and I would imagine that these feelings would be especially strong when the 13th Doctor will still be easing into the role for his first series.

Countless reporters asked McGann if he would be coming back post-NotD and his response was always that people should embrace Capaldi instead.

Always thought it was interesting how these tried to imply a narrative of Eccleston regenerating from McGann, such as claiming that Nine was spotted stumbling around disoriented (implying regeneration trauma) while wearing Edwardian clothes, and later trying to pawn off the Edwardian outfit after he switched to his new costume.

Funny how hard all that got retconned.
>>
>>84703305

I think it would make the most sense if he was a side effect of the Doctor's regeneration, not a legit incarnation - something like the metacrisis Doctor from 'Journey's End'.

Are you referring to old interviews with McGann, or? He's done interviews where he's said he would come back if the story was right on numerous occasions now. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it... it would actually be great. Yeah, the Valeyard has officially never been anything other than "an amalgamation of the Doctor's darker side" (exact words). An "amalgamation" is extremely vaguely defined but it certainly doesn't imply a full incarnation.

As for the meta-crisis Doc being the Valeyard theory, I think it's perfectly plausible. In fact it's too perfect to *not* be my headcanon. People often point to the exact words of the "between your twelfth and final incarnation" line as implying that the Doctor still has plenty of time to manifest the Valeyard, but let's be real, no one knew the Doctor would have more than 13 incarnations when that line was written so the implication is obvious. Now that meta-crisis is retroactively the 12th regeneration, and is already demonstrably an amalgamation of the Doctor's dark side (gleefully genociding the Daleks and being left behind with Rose because he needed to heal), it's very tempting to put two and two together.

I could imagine a story where something goes wrong, Rose dies in the parallel universe and meta!Doc goes mad, lusting for regenerations (just like the Valeyard did) now that the reason for his mortal existence as a human is gone. If Chibnall is daft enough to do it I could imagine Tennant returning to the role of the meta-crisis Doc as a one-off villain, getting his hands on regenerations somehow (stealing them from other Time Lords?), and changing into Jayston (via Grand Moff Tarkin-esque CGI) so he can go back in time to fuck with Colin Baker and steal even more regenerations because living forever is all he has left to strive for (Ten always had a god complex after all).

If something this ever got canonized (and in all likelihood, it never will) though, it would have to be in a comic or something. The TV show is too averse to this level of continuity pandering especially if it involves shitting all over the happy resolution to a plotline that NuWho was very invested in (muh Rose).

I'm not sure why people still do it though, because typing an exclamation mark takes more effort than pressing the space bar.

For me, it's honestly just force of habit lmao. Mainly with the incarnations of the Master as well, though nowadays I just type the surname. Can't speak for anyone else tho

what was the point of bringing Simm back? He had like 2 mins of screentime
>>

I ain't watching 30 minutes of that shit. Dunno what her points are, but on the topic of immigration I think DW (or rather the BBC execs) made their stance pretty clear with the Zygon two-parter last series. It was also a real zeitgeist moment because immigration was in the news so much when that story aired, but when it was originally written I don't believe they knew just how close to the real world they would be by the time it aired.

Remember that awesome ending of the 50th where we see all the incarnations of the Doctor looking up at space and Smith does a voice-over about why he (the Doctor) is always travelling and the answer was that he was always really going home (Gallifrey), and he sounds so nostalgic about it.
Remember how psyched you felt about Gallifrey being saved and the possibility of seeing it in the show again, or maybe a series arc about the Doctor trying to find Gallifrey?

Remember how the very next time we see Gallifrey it's because 12 was imprisoned and punched through a diamond wall for a 100 billion years and he's angry as fuck, bans Rassilon from the planet and uses his first time back on his home planet which he saved from certain ruin to use some Time Lord technology to bring back an echo of a companion he'd hung around with for a couple of years only to escape Gallifrey again?
What the fuck happened there Moffat?
>>
the beginning of Thin Ice where Bill voices her concerns about the butterfly effect and time travel and Twelve heckles her for it is perfect

I hope Chibs has the Doctor mention how he wasn't in the best spirits and acted rashly and wishes to return to Gallifrey proper and finish what he started.

I thought the beginning of Hell Bent when he spends some time with the commonfolk was pretty nice, actually.

The honest truth is likely to lure back fans who stopped watching Who. Simm was an iconic character in the RTD days when ratings were much better, and he's a well-loved and well-known actor in general. The fact that they showed a clip of him at the end of the series trailer after The Pilot is proof that they were just using him to hype up the series and keep people watching. Didn't seem to work though.

That said, even if the reason to bring him back was just to hype up the latest series and to get old fans back to watching Doctor Who, there really is no excuse as to how under-used he was. A multi-Master story has so much potential and they could've done some amazing stuff with it, but Simm just ended up being used as eye-candy to lure viewers when they could've done so much more with his character. However, even though he was criminally underused, his little play-off with Missy and the Doctor where they decide how to kill him was a great scene, and the final Simm/Missy scene where they kill each other was brilliant and I think it'll be remembered as a GOAT moment in DW history. So even though he was barely in it, every second of it was great.

They're both dudes who have had their faces mangled and need to wear masks to cover it up, and both episodes feature a shocking reveal of what they look like under the mask, followed by screaming.

Sharaz Jek rips of Phantom even more by making him a mentally unbalanced but brilliant recluse wears a mask to conceal his facial disfigurement; develops an obsessive fascination with an attractive young woman and eventually abducts her

Yes, I hope Chibnall's able to write it off as the Doctor being emotional or whatever. I know the Time Lords were never really goodies in Classic Who, but I'd still like to see Gallifrey again in the future. The whole thing was set up as a nice treat for fans, but then Hell Bent just fucked it all up by turning the Doctor into a dick. He's not very loved on his home planet in the first place but now he's only made it worse. Also really wish they got Dalton to play Rassilon again instead of that old maester dude from GoT. That would've made for a much better stand-off after End of Time. Or did Dalton's Rassilon die I don't remember

Yes, obviously. I wouldn't think there'd be any debate. It's like masturbation but better. And you both know what you're into, which spots are particularly sensitive etc. No hassle like in real life relationships where you have to convince your partner into doing stuff/you only get a blowjob on your birthday etc. Think about it, the sex would be incredible. Wouldn't even care about the gender.

>>84712340

>>
>>84712569
>the term in sync is impressive and wise
What are you getting at? Having a perfect clone of yourself, obviously you'd be in sync. They'd be the same exact person as you. The same thoughts, the same dreams, the same interests, the same lusts. If that doesn't constitute being in sync with someone I don't know what does.

>>84712585
Then have awkward sex, it's just you and you after all. Or do you think you'd both be so terrible/awkward that you'd both just decide not to have sex and just watch Doctor Who together?

Sex or no sex, a perfect clone of myself would be great company.
>>
>>84712233
I guess, but I feel like there are so many other things I'd want to do instead, like watch Doctor Who and play videogames n shit
>>
>>84712845
You have an opposite or same-sex clone, in a one of a kind chance, and you choose Who over sex?

Truly, you are a /who/vian.

Heard a rumour that Capaldi and the Doctor Who team will be at Comic Con later this month and that they'll announce the next Doctor there during a panel. You think there's any truth to that?
>>
>>84712929
I think the official word on this kind of thing in the past (remember the 50th teaser situation?) is that they'd never do something major at an American comic con venue before doing something in the UK
>>
>>84711539
Moffat never really liked Gallifrey to start with, nor did he like the idea of it being blown up, so he's had his cake and eaten it by bringing it back but then only using it for the sake of his Clara plot, and then ignored it by putting it at the end of time or whatever.
>>
>>84712923
To be fair, the original post never said anything about the clone being temporary. If I got a clone, same-sex or opposite, I'd probably spend some time hanging out and having fun. Play some vidya, watch some tv. Obviously the clone couldn't leave the house but we could be flatmates and just hang out and have fun. Then maybe our arms touch when we go to bed and one thing leads to another.
Honestly, there are so many pros about having a perfect clone of yourself, there's more fun to be had than just sex.

>>84713004
Has Gallifrey always had the property of existing outside the linear time continuum or whatever by just hopping all around time and space? If not, how the fuck did they gain this ability and what is the purpose of using it besides hiding where nobody can find them? If they can do this, why didn't they use this tactic during the Time War to just move the entire species and planet out of the way of Dalek assault? Why the fuck is this a thing and why the hell isn't it even explained?

That makes sense. Though I vaguely seem to remember some kind of uproar about Comic Con getting a new trailer a couple years ago that wasn't shown in the UK before and people got really upset about it.

Honestly, I can't see them announcing the new actor on a Comic Con panel. Bit of a weird way to do it, especially if it's not live-streamed all over the world. Not to mention the complications of keeping the actor out of sight the entire time before the reveal. Employees at the convention would know straight away and tweet about it.
