It might not be clear from the shot, but I just rewatched The Doctor Falls and Capaldi does this weird motion here that looked like an impressive Matt impersonation. But I can't figure out if Matt ever did that gesture, I rewatched his regen scenes and didn't spot it.

The sontaran line is a 4th Doctor one, but it's the worst in the capaldi scene so that's not much. He should've started saying "Change..." with Colin's intonation and then trailed off. Or a bit of Hartnell's last lines, which would be a bit of foreshadowing in this case.

Capaldi degenerates into McGann because he doesn't want to change, or Capaldi and Fake Hartnell's timeline 'collide' in a timey wimey way, triggering a degeneration into McGann. That's one of the wild rumours going around. Apparently Chibnail wants to do something controversial but desu when Moffat said this regeneration was going to be 'different,' it'd obvious he just meant long-winded.

I still don't get why McGann would sign up to a two hour commute and 52 near-identical scripts a year (Holby or Casualty, whichever one it is) so you can see why he's been a mainstay of the rumour mill. I would have preferred him to fake Hartnell, that's for sure.

Eh, RTD actually had characters that talked and acted like humans.

Say what you will about the story - but the human element persisted. Also the RTD episodes, even when their bad, still have an air of excitement to them.

I like that reading a lot, because it suggests to me that the Doctor is almost scared of losing his values with his regeneration. This is arguably the most progressive Doctor ever (a few dodgy character beats excepted), and probably the biggest feminist too, so understandably the idea of turning into a misogynist, or a Time Lord who abuses his privilege, is abhorrent to him. You can even see those concerns channelled through the Missy/Harold subplot, where their conflicting values lead, ultimately, to self-destruction.
