This type of stuff makes me sick. Lynch and Frost better not be going down the path of an ultimate battle between Good and Evil. Making Laura Palmer the antithesis of Bob would ruin the series. They cannot be dumb enough to go down that path, there has to be something else planned.

Laura had already lost the battle against Bob in Fire Walk With Me, she saw Bob in her reflection and knew that it was over. Her sacrifice was selfless and done to protect others, not herself. That's what made it so tragic, she was only human and in the end she got salvation.

If they turn her into a Christ figure that was always meant to stop Bob, the impact of her struggle will be lost. The significance of her choices, and her agency will be gone, it was always meant to be so because alien gods predetermined it.

Amazing episode, but if it goes down this path, I'll never be able to watch it again without getting angry.

Anyone read a book by John Wyndham called THE MIDWICH KEKOOS? The book opens with every single person in a small village falling asleep. A UFO is seen on radar, but the army can't get into the village as they fall asleep as soon as they cross an invisible line. The next day everyone wakes up; a few weeks later it is realised that every woman of childbearing age in the village is pregnant. I think what happened in episode 8 is something very similar, told in Lynch's own off the charts surreal manner. I'd bet my bottom dollar Mark Frost has read the book.
