The terrifying aspect of it all is that, whatever happened when Cooper left Twin Peaks, it wasn't explainable simply as the actions of Bob and not him. In this scenario we have to accept that the amazing person that is Dale Cooper is still a human with an inherent dark side no matter how dwarfed it is by his good nature, and Dopplecoop is literally Coop's dark side, piloted out of the Lodge by Bob.
Where it gets confusing is when you have to surmise whether we are seeing EvilCoop because of limitations or not. Frank Silva obviously can't crawl around for us anymore, so the way we saw Bob attack through what we later learned was Leland is simply not possible. I think the best explanation is the same as why The Man From Another Place is a tree.

Whatever Bob is has evolved over 25 years, and he may no longer breed chaos only when directly in control. From what we understand he controlled Leland without Leland ever having been to the Lodge, same as his attempts for Laura. What he did with Dale was something that could have been a first by generating a LITERAL doppleganger, as opposed to briefly taking control of the Palmers. It implies that even in this horrible scenario, the evil he splits from Coop is still an individual entity.
Assuming the above is true, EvilCoop is operating with Dale Cooper's intellect. Once they cornered Leland and Bob had him kill himself, Bob needed a new target and Dale Cooper was by far the most talented person anywhere nearby. The silly photo at his mansion I think explains things rather well actually. Bob is just general evil created by humans, and has similar goals. So long as he infected residents of Twin Peaks he was stuck in Twin Peaks making housewives cry. By creating a dopple of Coop with none of his goodness, he had a ride he knew would get out of town regardless of his direct influence. Then 25 years of Coop being some drug lord and being untouchable. What better way to get your Garmonbozie than if your host doesn't give a fuck, and may actually initiate some violence on their own? It was always a fight with Leland and Laura and ultimately his body count was shit. I think Evil Cooper has already killed more people than Bob did during the Banks and Palmer cases.
The thing I have to assume is that Bob assumed for one reason or another he would not end up some OTHER entity's bitch. EvilCoop seemed suspicious of him leaving, so I suspect there has been some mirror based bargaining in the past.

I'm still not convinced we've been given adequate evidence that a dead human soul is any less capable of leaving the Red Room than someone who never died. Maybe they are all scrambled up (like Dougie) but the way the red room kicks out human spirits seems like a Star Trek teleporter or the digitizer in Tron. If it is possible, could Bob return to the Red Room and reemerge in Leland's form? Could the Giant have just sent Laura's soul from the "White Lodge" back into present day to fight Bob or, even worse for her, as bait to make him predictable and go after Laura?
I genuinely don't think Dale had anything to do with Bob anymore when he woke up. He's just the bad side of a single soul, whereas Dougie is the good. Neither of them is a very competent communicator, but EC talks like Dougie after 25 years of practice, so I'm positive that weirdness comes from the same empty space in them both. It's worth noting that Dougie doesn't react negatively to any of the things he is reminded by. He is always attracted to things he remembers positively. The most aggressive thing he has done was calling dude a liar, which in itself was a call back to his talents as an investigator.

I'm half way through FWWM, where Dale hasn't even set foot in Twin Peaks yet, yet somehow he's already trapped in the lodge according to Annie. I'm at a loss because I know the setup for season 3 and it's not making any sense to me how any of these lodge events can be happening to him before he even encounters any of this shit.

So far, we've got at least two different kinds of supernatural entities: giants and ayy lmaos (whether or not they're literally ayy lmaos they look like fucking ayy lmaos). The giants are good guys, the ayy lmaos are bad guys. The woodsmen are probably the human form that the ayy lmaos take when they walk around on Earth and fuck with people. At first I thought the 1945 nuke was what let them into the world, but then I reread Secret History again and got to the bit about "Liver Eating Johnson", a "mountain man" who led American forces to cut off and capture an Indian tribe who were trying to escape to Canada (and who had been successfully evading the Americans through some kind of White Lodge giant magic).

So there are two possibilities about what the nuke actually may or may not have done: either that really was what let them into the world and the temporal discrepancy can be explained by "these are creatures beyond our comprehension and time is meaningless to them", or all the nuke allowed them to do was create BOB and/or that weird bug thing and send him/them to Earth (not sure if they're supposed to be the same or not).

Alternatively, and this is a neat idea, the woodsmen are unrelated to the ayy lmaos and are a separate malevolent force, one that's been on Earth since pre-nuke times and co-existed with MIKE and BOB above the convenience store, share their desire for evil, but ultimately have no concern for the ayy lmaos' agenda. This is supported by their revival and rescue of BOB even though MIKE (an ayy lmao who may or may not have actually reformed) wants BOB back in the Lodge, and would also explain the temporal discrepancy I mentioned earlier. It would also negate the question of why the ayy lmaos would sometimes show up as woodsmen and other times show up in UFOs or as normal ayys. I personally like this idea the most, but I doubt it's the right one.
