Twin Peak's Season 3 return is one of the most intolerable and desperate wastes of - everything - I've seen in some time. In an effort to be original and offbeat, it simply ends up being hackneyed and plain stupid.

I like films and programs with ideas, and while Twin Peaks has them, somewhere from the brain to the editing floor, they were lost in a jumbled mess of boring delirium. I have literally seen programs with more to them at my local student film festival.

There. I just saved you precious hours to do something meaningful like reading a book, watering the grass, pulling gray hairs from your head, yes watching paint dry, or how about writing a screenplay? Chances are it'll be a more entertaining than this program ever could be. For those that are awaiting some masterful revelation from it, please let the rest of us know how long exactly it takes to get there.

I have to wonder if David Lynch is in the throes of Alzheimer's or has taken to smoking meth, as the 2017 version of this show is god-awful and hard to watch. The acting is just terrible with the actors giving their lines as if they're reading them from badly written cue cards. There are shots that linger forever after the action is over without adding anything to the narrative and the actors speak their lines and stare at each other like they're mental patients on tranquilizers.

There is a horribly pointless and hideously acted scene in the first episode where the cast is looking for a key to an apartment that should never have been written or filmed because of how inane it was.

Whoever put up the money to produce this mess should have just thrown it out into the street. At least then someone could have come along and gotten some use of it.

This show isn't just different for the sake of being different, it's like someone gave the Amish a camera and told them to make a sequel to a TV show, not knowing anything about the original show, or TV, or cameras, or technology

To summarize this show, imagine a famous artist with a large fandom decides to lazily splash paint on a canvas and sell it. His fans just eat it up. It literally seems like David Lynch just set out to make a quick, extremely cost effective product to bank in on. He can use 30 minutes of screen time with people just awkwardly staring at each other. If you actually had the script on hand, there would be very little dialogue and none of it would read interestingly. The characters are so ridiculous; even though it's been a while since I've seen the original, I definitely remember some characters being mentally typical; instead every single person is mentally impaired. Andy went from an oversensitive airhead to 'fried his brain with a thumbprint of LSD' and I think his wife joined him on that trip. Speaking of which, the show itself is like how I picture a trip on some really awful, messed up RC hallucinogen. It's got the time dilation and oscillation, the skipping, and that weird cracked out sensation that you're just not sure how you feel about. At the risk of coming off as snarky, I feel like a 5 year old with ADHD could have daydreamed this show. Honestly, I feel like I had similar quality daydreams at 5. It makes you wonder if it's supposed to be taken seriously, but at the same time I can't find the humor in it either. To any fanboy this infuriates, I have one retort to everything you could possibly say: If this show was a different title from a different person with the same content, YOU WOULD NOT WATCH THIS. Take away Twin Peaks and David Lynch and you have something that would never make it on television in the first place.

In my opinion Lynch is very conflicted about the portrayal of "negative" emotions. Sometimes he plays it straight. Sometimes he lets the viewer off the hook. He turns Ike the Spike's murder into an orgasm. The boy's death by the fury of Richard's momentum is played three ways, one straight and quite painfully by Carl, one humorous by the idiot truck driver, and one commentary by the other spectators.

Dougiecoop is a perfect example. To think of the once dedicated and headstrong agent rendered an idiot by the sacrifice he made for a woman he loved is quite terrible to contemplate. But played the way it is, we're only given small glimpses of it. Does Lynch want us to avoid it, or does Lynch himself want to avoid it?

I think neither is true. Lynch doesn't want us to avoid it, but for those who don't want to face it, he gives an out they can latch onto. Oh, look at that driver's reaction, hahahaha. A viewer latching on to this says more about the viewer than the director, IMO.
