Why is the new season so shit?

What's the over/under on how many more episodes until it starts to make any cohesive sense

>>
is the new season actually shit
just finished the second season, going to watch fwwm tomorrow and go straight into it

>>
>>83996476
>artists should be constrained by the sensibilities of Game of Thrones babbies and Breaking Plebs

Lmao no.
>>
>>83996518

How is it not making cohesive sense right now? Things happen and they mostly happen in order. It's not like it's some super experimental nonlinear narrative. It's a tad slow but it's not hard to follow.
>>
I had a dream last night that I was Dale Cooper.

Inside me were multiple personalities (Dougie included), and I could summon those personalities, which would augment my knowledge and skill set. The setup was sort of like a video game. I started off in a room and had to figure out which personality would help get me out. Getting out of the room required me to interact with a computer, which looked a lot like Varga's server from Fargo. One of the personalities was Ehrlich from Silicon Valley.
>>
>>83996542
Who do I call to help fix season 3?
>>
if i ever met david lynch, id'd tell him to "sit on it"
>>
>>83996544
It all depends if all the plotlines are going to lead to something eventually. I'd advise you to start watching once half the season has already aired so you're not going crazy of waiting for the next episode.
>>
>>83996566

Mr. Jackpots.
>>
>>83996564

So basically it was Killer 7, but with absolutely useless people like Dougie or Ehrlich.
>>
>>83996547
It clearly helped during the creation of Twin Peaks. Some artists just need a bit of guidance to truly shine.
>>
loving third season so far
>>
>>83996544
It's not shit, it just doesn't make much sense yet. Lynch described the new season as an eighteen hour movie, would you read the first chapter of a book from one of the greatest authors of all time and chuck it if you didn't immediately love it?
>>
>>83996564
Man I should get into lucid dreaming but I'm frightened as shit when it comes to sleep paralysis
>>
>>83996558
There are a shit ton of seemingly pointless things that will obviously come to fruition at some point but he's definitely the pacing is clearly testing the audiences patience, but the good moments are enough to make any fan want to keep watching.
>>
>>83996573
I kind of want that though, every currently running tv show I consider complete shit so it'd be nice to finally pace myself watching a current show than to binge it. especially a show like twin peaks where to think/ sleep on an episode over a few days adds to the experience
>>83996609
>would you read the first chapter of a book from one of the greatest authors of all time and chuck it if you didn't immediately love it?
if it was shit, yeah
good authors can write the odd bad book, and the latter half of season two is awful (I'll accept that was due to network pressure and hack directors though)

So did Nadine and Mike stay together or what? We've seen them both separately in S3 and I saw some claim somewhere that the ugly kid doing coke with Amanda Seafood is Mike's son. But we haven't seem them together. And we haven't seen Big Ed.

My biggest complaint is the indie band of the week shit at the end. I want to watch the show, (even if it barely progresses) not live music. It was okay and even interesting in previous seasons when it was during the show and only a few times. Now it just feels like an out-of-place cop-out. Worst of all it's usually Stacy-looking bitches on the stage.

The new season also has some nice shots (some of the stuff in episode 3 would win an award if it was in a standalone movie). People criticize the CGI, but even if it looks low budget, it's still extremely pleasing to watch. The color choice in the gold ball scene, for example, is really nice.
>>
>>83997101
it does not have meaning tho
>>
>>83997044
I don't mind it. I saw a Lynch interview before the season aired where they were talking about how much music was in the new season though lol. I really hope there's a purpose to it all beyond Lynch being underbudget and feeling like throwing a big live indie music concert or something
>>
>>83997065
It happening before the credits is what is annoying, hence my saying it was okay when it was during the show and seemed to have a purpose, like setting the mood for a scene at The Roadhouse.
>>
>>83997121
is the ball really just a low-res gif? The fuck Lynch
>>
>>83997121
i was so entrailed in the story that I only notice it was crap cgi when you guys mentioned
>>
>>83997044
The music is only 2 or 3 minutes at best. It's not like it's detracting from the show. Just turn it off when you see the credits coming on. You being a nosey bitch is the only basis for your complaint.

The visuals here were almost distractingly bad here IMO. Neat/novel idea saves it. It'd be like pottery with Bob's soul sucking being shown with fire in the S2 finale

Considering how easy it is to make a reflective sphere in 3d software, I'd probably have to say it's intentional.

Either that, or they were really rushed / had massive budget constraints.

Either way, nothing about the effects in that scene look natural at all, and it really fits the "manufactured" character.
>>
>>83997244
Just because I'm critical of aspects of it doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching the show. I also won't be silenced by fags like you who apparently believe that if you don't have anything nice to say about Twin Peaks, don't say anything at all.

There are really too many mysteries, and not enough focus. I'm optimistic that it's just that 18 episodes is WAY too many so they're filling it up with stuff that's actually pretty enjoyable, but that doesn't bring any closure or advance the plot (i.e., long stretches of dougie)

In the original series I thought the curtains made it really obvious how the red room was just a set in a studio somewhere, totally "fake" but it was interesting. I like it a lot generally speaking. The only problem is that it's difficult to merge seamlessly with a lot of the cliffhangers. Especially if one takes place outside of TP and then suddenly we're back at the bar for some hipster music. but it's one of the details that will help cement this season as a cult classic in the future. On the other hand it's already guaranteed to become one.

Focus on positive things like the waifus or the music. Try to keep a meta perspective like 'Lesli linka glatter is really adding some atmosphere to this episode' etc. Think that the final episode is going to be epic (it will btw) and use it as a reward and the light at the end of the tunnel. Many things about those episode's are not good at all but if you use this technique you might be able to soldier through it.

The uncut version of the meeting above the convenience store is infinitely more interesting than the original FWWM scene.

Has Lynch ever spoken about his rationale for editing so much of it away, or was the decision something as mundane as time/budgetary restraints?

The only flaw is still the editing. Why introduce Diane for a 30sec scene ? We probably won't see her for 2 episodes and that's annoying. Same with Albert following up on Gordon's recommendation only 2 episodes later. We're already 6 episodes in so this could be a problem in the long term.

Structure is Twin Peaks 3's biggest issue. Characters who should be meaningfully introduced back into the story are just randomly shoved in.

Look how they introduced the TP police station. It's a mess.

Why do we care that a random kid gets run off by another random character with other randos onlooking who we don't care about?

Yep. Season 1 didn't have a single wasted character or moment. Go back and watch the pilot and tell me that it's not one of the most tightly-written episodes of TV ever.

Season 3 is definitely more ambitious than the original series, but there's too much going on at once right now, and no clear way in which it's all connected.

Lynch can always make great scenes and interesting characters, but he seems dismissive of the basic cinematic techniques that could deliver a cohesive story.

All of his work from Lost Highway on, has been structurally lacking.

Mulholland Drive works well because of the dreamy nature of the story.

What impact does a single episode of TP3 have? They are all just a sequence of disparate scenes that don't build off each other. Then for no reason, the episode ends on a tepid indie band playing in a club that might have random cameos.

Why are people so reluctant to admit that Lynch isn't infallible? His editing and pacing has always been sketchy without others to reign him in. He has great, unique ideas but has had trouble making them coherent without more traditional people around him. (Sweeney, Frost)

Where's the audio or the story?

The music has bee underwhelming, mostly sound design, but very minimal. There aren't any new pieces composed by Badalamenti.

When Laura's Theme is reintroduced, it's basically for a joke about Bobby, and possibly to mock the audience. Evil Cooper's music is also played for laughs.

The story is just random weird shit that usually ends in violence. What does the Shaggy plot in episode 1 have to do with anything? Why introduce it there?

>Maybe you just have minor autism?

Mystery Man was definitely a lodge entity/dugpa.

Blue Velvet didn't really have anything like that and Inland Empire was plotless shit for pseuds to say they understand. Lynch made it as a test to see what the reaction would be and once he realized critics and wannabe kinologists would suck his dick no matter what he put out, it discouraged him from filmmaking for a decade.

I don't think that scene with Bobby was supposed to be a joke? Also I don't remember evil Coop's music, unless you mean when he is first driving through the woods, and I don't think it was being played for laughs.

>What does the Shaggy plot in episode 1 have to do with anything?
I am sure we'll return to it. We see the occasional clip of the Buckhorn police finding stuff out.

>Why introduce it there?
Probably because that's when they want it to take place in relation to all the other plots.
>>
>>84002234

Actually the mute stuff is done on purpose I think.
Remember the first episode with the phonograph doing weird sounds and the giants telling Coop to listen ?
I think the more music is going to be reintroduced, the more it'll mean that the evil/black lodge stuff is going to be suppressed. TP started as a light show that went into dark territories. This time it's the other way around, we're starting in an already thematically dark world with evil spirits going around, Coop being trapped in the black lodge, disturbing crimes being committed... until we get into the light. The end scenes with the bands are a progressive reintroduction of the sounds in the universe of TP. Doesn't someone say in S1/2 that the white lodge is the place where there's always music in the air ? TP S3 is a journey to the white lodge but first we have to get out of the muted, dark universe. This is meta stuff.

That never happened. Fred killed Dick Laurent, Andy and Renee because she was cheating on him and was also a porn performer, and these guys were her pimp and her lover respectively. She probably also fucked Andy. Anyway, Fred has severe mental troubles and, after killing his wife and being sent to the death row, re-imagined himself as whatshisname so he can tell himself a different story. He re-imagined Renee as Alice, the damsel in distress being a porn actress against her will, Dick Laurent as Mr. Eddy, a dangerous gangster and porn producer, and, well, Andy is Andy. All of that is going swell but the Mystery Man, being the devil on his conscience, is still with him and things get out of control. When Fred's new version of himself realizes that Alice really is Renee, he gives up and Fred takes whatshisname's place back, because he knows he can't change what happened no matter how hard he tries. He tries to warn himself through his own intercom but it's futile, and he gets fried on the electric chair anyway.

It's not just as psychological story, it's also a supernatural one.

Everything after the cell scene when Balthazar Getty takes Fred's place never really happened, except the very end where Fred gets executed on the chair. The police chase scene is an allegory of his struggle against his doom. All of this in his in head. There's nothing supernatural about Lost Highway, just like Mulholland Drive. Remember that Fred is also a very unreliable narrator, he himself says early on that he prefers to remember things his own way, not necessarily the way they happened.

Like I said, Fred's unreliable and the whole film is from his perspective, so it's fucked from the start. We don't know how much time it took him to do this. We can't even know if the tapes were actually a thing or what really was on them.

Some redditors were saying that Audrey's theme played during the skyline shot of New York in episode 1, but I haven't gone back to check.

Yeah. I think you are forgetting something there. Andy was AT the party.

Just accept that Lynch's films are not just psychological horror, there is also a supernatural element. He leaves it close enough that the purely mental explanation is almost possible, because he's very good, but when you look too close it never adds up all the way.

is it just me, or does Windom Earle's description of the white lodge in S2 feel almost like a prediction of Cooper's infantalised state of innocence in S3? Maybe the pre-red room coop can never fully come back because to do so would take him "out" of the white lodge, so to speak.
