pam lied herself into a job. pam did all of this and she didn't have the backbone to admit little issues like the lice incident or smaller stuff like that. she deserved jim. he fit to her. smart, funny, educated, romantic, loyal. you know, same interests somehow. he didn't say stuff like "i love art..." and just pretended it. pam finished her mural. she won prizes. she grew but in the end it worked out.

i mean, the show became a bit more complex but it really fit how the two of them ended up where they are.
roy WAS a shitty boyfriend. he became a good one after pam. maybe he matured because of this.

at least they didn't just end up in a prison or something.

The problem wasn't even Jim per se, it was that neither Roy nor Pam were mature enough to admit that they couldn't make their relationship work long term but instead kept deluding themselves that it could. If it hadn't been Jim that Pam fell for it would have been some other guy or Roy himself might have even fallen for some other girl as their relationship would slowly deteriorate more and more until they realized they'd wasted years of the lives being engaged to someone they might like, but haven't loved, for years.

Of course that's not to say that Jim was innocent. He might have recognized that Pam was in a failing relationship but he shouldn't have undermined it in his repeated flirting with her. If the relationship was to be broken it ought to have been, ideally, because both Pam and Roy realized what they were doing and broke it off. Thus Jim aiding in destroying the relationship may have been better for Pam and Roy in the long term but you can't pretend that Jim had any benevolent motivations in doing so. At worst he deliberately sabotaged it to swoop in and seize Pam for himself and at best he was simply incredibly blind to his actions no matter how well intentioned they may have been. I would actually prefer the former to be true as i can more easily stand self aware immorality than causing bad thing to happen by being an emotionally retarded fuckstick.
